CinemaCon 2011: Warner Bros Screenings - GREEN LANTERN And DEATHLY HALLOWS PT.2
Everyone can relax about whether or not GREEN LANTERN is going to look good or not. That has been put to bed and we can start worrying about story I suppose, but even that looks to be bang on.
Let's start with the obvious, Ryan Reynold's Green Lantern suit. You have all seen the trailer and the backlash was fairly consistent in that the suit didn't look good enough. No polish. Not realistic enough. Well from what I saw all that is out the window because the suit looks absolutely AMAZING. It actually looks alive to put it best. You are going to like, I'm sure. You just can't get this kind of effect without going with CG either.
GREEN LANTERN is a very heavily laden CG movie from the suit right on down to the environment on OA. Clearly the first trailer was done far in advance of much of this post production work and we are now seeing the end results. Still much was unfinished, but you get the idea. Massive work in progress.
Space ships are ultra cool! Abin Sur has a cool scene with futuristic light controls and yes Parallax is doing some serious damage.
We saw Hal Jordan taking his oath and winding up on OA where he meets Tomar-Re (Geoffrey Rush).
But probably the most interesting scene that I saw was Sinestro talking to all the Green Lantern Corps about what Parallax has been doing. The sheer number of different aliens here is AMAZING. I am sure that avid Green Lantern comic readers will be pausing this over and over again once it is released on disc!!
We also got to see a new trailer but I won't spoil that for you other than to say it is much more action oriented. Rest assured, GREEN LANTERN seems to be paying ample respect to the legions of fans out there. Clip length in total was about 10 minutes.
As far as HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PT.2 is concerned we got to see some of the Battle of Hogwarts which to me is one of the most important scenes ever in the franchise. The entire clip was 4 minutes and playing more like an extended trailer.
My biggest concern about PT.1 was the lack of energy. PT.2 seems to be much faster moving - plenty of action guys. You are going to love it.
I'm not going to give spoilers for what I saw, but trust me - these Warner Bros tentpoles are looking spectacular and will definitely do well in the box office (HP has no choice no does it? License to print money!). I will say that last chapter fans of the book will LOVE it.
I will have some video of CinemaCon up soon and I will be travelling most of tomorrow - stay tuned!!
