After the successes of Katy Perry's and Justin Bieber's 3D concert movies (with liberal backstage access),
Jennifer Lopez is looking to tap the same barrel.
DANCE AGAIN will apparently take us through Lopez's last few years including her AMERICAN IDOL appearances, filming, music and Marc Anthony issues - in other words,
doing just what Katy Perry did, bringing her personal life (Russell Brand) up on the big screen.
I am a huge fan of the genre. Personal matters aside,
the music, emotion and dazzling 3D that has been displayed thus far with this type of concert movie never fails to amaze. For me, it all started with
U2 3D.
The current craze for 3D dance movies further underscore the power of 3D to portray emotion in dance and bring us into the action
(3ality Technica - STEP UP REVOLUTION; Cameron Pace Group - STEP UP 3D).
I'll let you know when we get more word, whose working on it (3D crew or if it's a conversion) and a release date for the production.

Katy Perry fans - check out her first official poster for PART OF ME. "From hairbrush to headliner".
The movie covers her life thus far and includes concert footage.
There really aren't a lot of details out there on the film so stay tuned for more...
PART OF ME will hit theaters on July 5.
Seems like a reasonably interesting look at the life of Katy Perry to this point in her life. I am certainly not put off by anything in this trailer as I thought I might be. It actually looks entertaining.
Her music is popular enough, but can she carry a whole feature length movie? That remains to be seen. So far, so good.
One thing is for sure - the native 3D is going to rock! 3ality Technica is running the show...
Watch the trailer in HD right here. The movie hits theaters July 5.

Yes, both Katy Perry and Metallica have confirmed they are working on 3D feature length movies. Both are also likely to be documentaries with some concert footage but also behind the scenes work similar in style to the Justin Bieber / Jon Chu film NEVER SAY NEVER.
While I enjoy some of the music from these artists, I've never considered myself a fan. What I am very interested in is the movies themselves and how they intend on achieving their goals cinematically.
For me the bar was set extremely high from the outset of modern 3D through Catherine Owen's U2 3D. The cinematography was jaw dropping and if any filmmaker can revisit this level of achievement I will be there. To this day I will never forget how the sea of humanity flowing on the screen in 3D merged with the heads of the theater audience in front of me... I WAS THERE!
Katy Perry said via Twitter: "READY FOR HUGE NEWS?! FINALLY, my MOVIE is coming out with Paramount this summer!
It also looks like reality TV's Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz (PROJECT: GREENLIGHT, PROJECT RUNWAY) will be directing. They also did the aforementioned Justin Bieber 3D movie.
Meanwhile, Metallica has landed a solid director in Nimrod Antal (PREDATORS, VACANCY)! This is a huge coop if you ask me. Antal is very talented. The 100 million record selling hard rock group has legions and legions of fans and will surely do very well at the box office as well.
Drummer Lars Ulrich said: "I’ve been a fan of Nimróds since his first Hungarian film, Kontroll, showed up at Cannes in 2004 and blew everybody away. I’ve watched with excitement his career in Hollywood blossom over the last few years. Within five minutes of meeting him I was addicted to his enthusiasm, his take on the creative process and his “thinking outside of the box” personality. Let’s get on with it!!!"
Director Antal: "Metallica has always been a huge part of my life, and it’s an incredible opportunity when we get to work with our heroes. We are going to harness the powerful and almighty energy of Metallica’s live shows, inject a narrative into it, and shoot it in 3D to elevate the entire experience."
So good luck to the production crews! Looking forward to see if they can hit their lofty goals and in maintaining the momentum of 3D music artist based features!

Seems as though this project may soon be a go. Katy Perry fans rejoice as she is set to star in a 3D concert film shot in documentary style. Obviously the movie would play to teenaged girls so don't expect an overly serious documentary, but it seems it will have doc DNA.
The interest in another concert movie for Paramount is easy - JUSTIN BIEBER: NEVER SAY NEVER was a rousing success and holds the domestic box office record for the format at $73 million.
Negotiations continue but it looks like everyone wants it done. The movie looks like a good way to improve her brand, without well... Russell Brand. I'll have more details when available.
