I knew that Dreamworks Animation had plans for more iterations in the MADAGASCAR, KUNG FU PANDA and HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON franchises but rarely do you hear such sweeping predictions as to mention a possible 8 total movies for DRAGON or even 6 movies for PANDA!
Katzenberg tells Empire:"Yeah, there’s probably a fourth (MADAGASCAR) there. Kung Fu Panda actually has 6 chapters to it, and we’ve mapped that out over the years. How To Train Your Dragon is at least three: maybe more, but we know there are a least three chapters to that story. There are actually 8 books."
Obviously the box office has to be there for these predictions to come true. As long as the stories remain top notch and fresh, I am all for it. DWA has come a long way in that regard - so has their technical and creative prowess. Stay tuned!!
Saw this trailer in glorious 3D pre-rolling in front of MEGAMIND on the weekend and it ROCKED! Loved it. Funny!!
Here's the movie's storyline: Po (Jack Black), Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman), Master Tigress (Angelina Jolie), and the rest of The Furious Five will join forces with The SoothSayer (Michelle Yeoh), Master Skunkman (James Woods), Master Croc (Jean-Claude Van Damme), and Master Thundering Rhino (Victor Garber) on their quest to defeat Lord Shen (Gary Oldman), a powerful king who possesses a deadly weapon that can destroy Kung Fu forever. It is up to Po, The Furious Five, and their new friends to stop this weapon. But first, Po must confront his long-lost past.
Really looking forward to this sequel a ton! Bring it on Dreamworks Animation!
Hey guys- Jim here. Dreamworks Animation recently released some more MONSTERS VS. ALIENS promo material and yours truly got the goods for you. One of readers actually alerted me to them! Ahhh... I forget who just this minute - you can remind me in the comments section please!
Anyway - I think these images are starting to plant the seeds of deeper interest in many people as they are getting into more and more of the action sequences and I have to say - they look very interesting!
The talent in the movie is outstanding of course with Rogen, Witherspoon, Arnett, Sutherland etc but with this movie it is going to come down to story. Can Dreamworks pull off another KUNG FU PANDA?
What if KUNG FU PANDA was made in 3D (almost was apparently, but didn't quite make the 2D-3D cutoff schedule)? Think of all the extra revenue that DWA would have enjoyed because of the 3D premium. Wow.
I don't know about you, but when I go see a 3D movie, I see it at least twice if not three of four times. Sure I run a 3D movie blog, but dang it if I don't discover something new and exciting with every trip. KUNG FU PANDA would have been awesome in 3D. And of course it's sequel definitely will be so I am pumped about that.
There is a lot of opportunity in MONSTERS VS. ALIENS to really making a 3D killing - for example the city destruction scenes with Ginormica and the Golden Gate Bridge scene with huge honking insect. What is that - some sort of ray beam coming out of that alien's (ship?) eye?
Whatever it is, I truly think DWA is going to be making a statement with this movie. I know a lot of you a Pixar fans (for good reason!) but if you will notice a strange thing happening this year - KUNG FU PANDA is winning awards while WALL-E is, ummm... maybe not. So while I am looking forward to Pixar's 3D UP this year, I have MvsA ranked higher in my must see list. Dreamworks Animation has come a long way in the past couple years and I think will be giving Pixar a run for the money in the near future.
But HEY! We are all one big happy stereoscopic family right? I mean Disney Animation, Dreamworks Animation and Pixar have all stated that from now on, only 3D CGI movies will be coming from their studios. So we all win.
So what do you think? Does Dreamworks Animation have the goods again as it did with KUNG FU PANDA? I am betting they do.
Hey everyone, Michael here. Dreamworks Animation just formally announced Kung Fu Panda 2 for a June 3, 2011 worldwide 3-D release on regular and IMAX screens! The sequel to this summer's (panda)bear-sized smash($627 million internationally and counting!)will reunite Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, and others from the original film. Jennifer Yu Helson, head of story on Kung Fu Panda, will direct.
The era of 3-D is now upon us. From BOLT on forward through 2012 and beyond, we will see a constant deluge of 3-D films, content, and related technology...and, finally, it seems as though just about all the deals are in place for a fast digital and 3-D rollout. The virtual print fee agreements are all essentially finalized, and from my vantage point it seems the only major theater chain yet to sign a deal for 3-D screens is AMC Theatres, who have yet to reach an agreement with Real-D. But I'm sure everything will work out--3-D is not just happening, it is HERE.
Editor's Note: The working title seems to be "Pandamonium". This is a sure fire hit of course - yet another franchise for DWA.
Jeffrey Katzenberg said Wednesday that we can expect an announcement within the next two months about a stereoscopic 3D sequel to the smash hit KUNG FU PANDA which has amassed an amazing $560 million worldwide this year.
Further, Katzenberg said that we will see at least one more sequel for MADAGASCAR (the original made $530 million worldwide) and of course that movie will also be in 3D as Dreamworks Animation is already on record as commiting all future tentpoles in 3D.
I knew these announcements would be coming but it is nice to see the official statements getting lined up. These movies will own the box office in 3D - those Dreamworks guys are working magic! Can't wait to see Monsters vs. Aliens next spring... Source: THR
