I saw the TRANSFORMERS trailer in 3D in front of SANCTUM and it looked amazing! So much action and the 3D was dialed in!! I'll have a SANCTUM review up shortly.

WATCH: The First Two Minutes Of RIO!

Here's the first 2 minutes of the upcoming Fox animation RIO! It looks like a ton of fun for family audiences and the colors and music seem incredible.

You can see how 3D is going to accentuate the scenes quite clearly!

Here's the storyline:
RIO is a 3-D animation feature from the makers of the "Ice Age" films. Set in the magnificent city of Rio de Janeiro and the lush rainforest of Brazil, the comedy-adventure centers on Blu, a rare macaw who thinks he is the last of his kind. When Blu discovers there's another - and that she's a she - he leaves the comforts of his cage in small town Minnesota and heads to Rio. But it's far from love at first sight between the domesticated and flight-challenged Blu and the fiercely independent, high-flying female, Jewel. Unexpectedly thrown together, they embark on an adventure of a lifetime, where they learn about friendship, love, courage, and being open to life's many wonders. 3D Animation Update Blowout! Pixar's DAY & NIGHT, DWA's MEGAMIND And Fox's RIO!!

Got a huge 3D animation update for you!

First up let's take a look at Pixar's short entitled DAY & NIGHT. I had the pleasure of seeing this whole thing at Showest this year and it is definitely something to anticipate guys. I love the tradition that Pixar has in setting these up before their tentpoles - DAY & NIGHT will be screening before TOY STORY 3 this summer.

Pixar allows their junior staff to create these pieces of magic and that in turn gives them more experience before tackling the major projects. But these shorts are amazing. Nothing minor about them other than their running time. DAY & NIGHT is a simply wonderful experience!

Next up we have a new trailer for Fox's 3D animation RIO. Anne Hathaway, Neil Patrick Harris, Rodrigo Santoro, George Lopez and Jake T. Austin lend their voices for the project with Carlos Saldanha directing.

RIO tells the story of a nerdy macaw who leaves the comforts of his cage in small town Minnesota and heads to Rio de Janeiro. He embarks on the adventure of a lifetime, learning to open himself up to all that life has to offer along the way.

RIO will hit 3D screens April 8, 2011.




Finally we have a look at a new trailer for Dreamworks Animation's MEGAMIND starring Will Ferrell.

Here is the synopsis: Megamind is the most brilliant supervillain the world has ever known. And the least successful. Over the years, he has tried to conquer Metro City in every imaginable way. Each attempt, a colossal failure thanks to the caped superhero known as 'Metro Man,' an invincible hero until the day Megamind actually kills him in the throes of one of his botched evil plans. Suddenly, Megamind has no purpose. A supervillain without a superhero. He realizes that achieving his life's ambition is the worst thing that ever happened to him. Megamind decides that the only way out of his rut is to create a new hero opponent called 'Titan,' who promises to be bigger, better and stronger than Metro Man ever was. Pretty quickly Titan starts to think it's much more fun to be a villain than a good guy. Except Titan doesn't just want to rule the world, he wants to destroy it. Now, Megamind must decide: can he defeat his own diabolical creation? Can the world's smartest man make the smart decision for once? Can the evil genius become the unlikely hero of his own story?

DWA has a hard act to follow after HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON which I loved. MEGAMIND opens November 5, 2010.

Fox Announces Next 3D Animated Film "Rio"!

Michael here.  Fox has announced that its next 3D CG animated film from Blue Sky Studios will be called Rio, and will be released on April 8, 2011.

According to Variety, Rio "centers on a nerdy macaw who leaves the comforts of his cage in small-town Minnesota and heads to Rio de Janeiro."

Carlos Saldanha, director of Ice Age: The Meltdown and co-director of the first Ice Age and the upcoming Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, will direct.

I'm very curious to see what else Fox has planned 3D-wise.  At ShoWest, Jim Gianopulos said that there would be three 3D releases from Fox in 2010.

It's kind of weird that we now know a Fox 3D film releasing in 2011, but we are still unaware of their plans for 3D movies in 2010.  My hope is that Fox continues leading the industry in terms of pioneering epic live action 3D films in 2010 and beyond.  As much as I love 3D animated films, we really need to see more big-budget 3D live action movies greenlit.
