Stereoscopic Displays And Applications XXI: January 18-20, 2010 - San Jose

Jim here. Thought I would drop the good word for my friend Andrew Woods over at SD&A - their annual conference is upon us once again!

This time around, Pixar is the keynote: Bob Whitehill, Stereoscopic Supervisor at Pixar will be addressing the crowd with his "Three Dimensional Storytelling". Using examples from "Up", "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2", Whitehill will discuss the use of 3D as a visual storytelling device in Pixar's films. The Keynote presentation takes place at 4pm on the first day of the SD&A conference - Monday, January 18, 2010.

The advance program for the 21st annual Stereoscopic Displays and Applications (SD&A) conference is now available on the conference website: http://www.stereoscopic.org/2010/program.html. The program includes 66 technical papers, and a number of special events including the hugely popular 3D Theatre, two discussion forums, the demonstration session, a 21st birthday dinner, keynote presentation, and the 3D gaming experience.

Registrations are now open at: http://www.stereoscopic.org/register/index.html

Plan now to attend. Register by 20th December to get the best rates. (SAVE US$100)

SD&A runs from January 18-20, 2010 as part of the IS&T/SPIE Electronic Imaging Symposium in San Jose, California. Nineteen other imaging conferences, including two other 3D related conferences, share the symposium, providing good synergy across the imaging community. Colleagues who are new to stereoscopic imaging should consider attending the short course on "Stereoscopic Display Application Issues" on Sunday, January 17. http://www.stereoscopic.org/sc

Quick Post: SD&A Conference Registrations Now Open

Registrations are now open for the 2009 Stereoscopic Displays and Applications conference. This is the conference's 20th Anniversary and with almost 90 technical presentations scheduled along with a wide range of other special 3D events, this is definitely a 3D event not to be missed. Earlybird pricing is available until 19 December 2008.

Call for 3D Theatre Submissions

The 3D Theatre session at each year's SD&A conference is one of the most popular conference events. We screen a wide selection of 3D content from around the world - highlighting the wide range of 3D content development that is going on around us. We are currently making a last call for 3D content submission for the SD&A 2009 3D Theatre session. We are looking for 3D content that exhibits high-production values and high-quality stereoscopic imaging principles. 3D applications footage is also highly encouraged. All content is shown in full-colour polarized 3D. More information about the 3D Theatre session is available here:
www.stereoscopic.org/3dcinema/index.html
If you own the rights or can obtain rights to a piece of 3D video content, please email us by 21 November 2008.

Call for Demonstration Session Exhibitors

Exhibitor registrations are now open for the 2009 Stereoscopic Displays and Applications Demonstration Session. This annual event is probably the largest collection of stereoscopic displays in one exhibition. For the last couple of years there have been around 30 stereoscopic 3D displays on show during this session. What better way to get your good work in front of so many 3D customers and their eyes. Audience engagement has always been very good at these sessions.

The 2009 Demonstration Session will be held 5:30 - 8:30pm Tuesday 20th January 2009 at the San Jose Convention Center, San Jose, California as part of the 2009 Stereoscopic Displays and Applications conference.

SD&A authors are accorded a free half table at the demonstration session, however tables are also available to Individuals, Businesses and Companies.

Those interested in exhibiting at the 2009 SD&A Demonstration Session should visit this page and complete the exhibitor registration form:

Disney 3D video now online (video problems corrected)

The 3D technical presentation by Ron Gillen from Walt Disney Animation Studios was placed on the SD&A website last Friday but due to some problems was unavailable over the weekend. That video is now back online along with the two other 3D technical presentation videos by Rob Engle (Sony Pictures Imageworks) and Lenny Lipton (REAL D).
