Quick Post: Cameron Will Not Make 3DX - "Avatar" teaser NOT shown

**SAME DAY UPDATE #2: Quote from my source: "The JC video showed him in his screening room editing Avatar. Sigourney Weaver could be seen (it was an intentional 3D c*ck tease, totally unfair - she was on the screen and you couldn't make anything else out) and it looked like he was cutting on final cut pro (perhaps at home?). He said the usual blah blah about 3D being great and him being a pioneer etc. I thought it was okay and a cool thing but in talking with the others, it seems most were disappointed."

Here is the big kick the rear: Jon Landau alluded to NOT SHOWING ANY AVATAR MATERIAL FOR 1 YEAR. That, my friends, brings us to the release of the movie - December 2009. What do you think - he is pulling or leg or what??

BAH.

**SAME DAY UPDATE:
Downer. Big time. NO AVATAR material at all. The video clip shown was a 3D Titanic test (that was impressive apparently) but again the much anticipated AVATAR material never surfaced. Unless there is a surprise unveiling later this week, all bets are now on the 3D Entertainment Summit for the AVATAR reveal (where Cameron is still on to be physically there). We hope. Jon Landau's presentation was excellent by the way. Overall, the buzz died down significantly after no AVATAR.

The 3DX event is still an outstanding venue let me point out! Awesome material and a wicked lineup of industry leaders definitely made it the place to be - and it still has more events to come.

According to my source, Jim Cameron will NOT make an appearance at the 3DX Festival in Singapore today but that he is sending in a video! Gee - I wonder if it is this one? Details are sketchy, but we should have a clearer picture very soon. In fact, Jon Landau is present at the show and is scheduled to present at 11:30am Singapore time. He can certainly talk to what is happening on the screen.

Here's hoping. Oh and security is tighter than John McCain's clenched fists. STAY TUNED for more details as I get 'em!

3DX Festival: Beauty and the Beast 3-D Announced

Michael here.  Disney Pictures president Mark Zoradi announced yesterday at the 3DX Festival in Singapore that Beauty and the Beast will be remastered into 3-D over a 10 month period by Walt Disney Pictures Animation for a 2010 release.

Original Beauty and the Beast producer Don Hahn said the re-rendering of the film would take 9 months.  He described the process as follows:

"By going back to the original animation files, which have been carefully archived for 17 years, and using the separate background, effects and character animation elements, we're able to come up with a fun and unique 3-D experience for existing and new fans of the film"

Beauty and the Beast is the 11th 3-D feature film that Disney is set to release in 2009-2010.

The 3DX conference has opened in Singapore but unfortunately Christopher Lloyd will not be appearing as he is attending to personal matters at home. If you have not heard already, Lloyd lost his house to the fires in Montecito.

However his movie CALL OF THE WILD will still have it's world premiere this Friday, Nov 21st at Vivo City's Golden Village Cinema at the 3DX Film Festival in Singapore. Producer Rich Iott, Director Richard Gabai and Stereographer Jason Goodman will be in attendance.

Walt Disney's Bolt To Open 3DX In Singapore

Singapore—Oct 2, 2008

Walt Disney Pictures’ Bolt To Be Honored At 3DX Premier Wednesday Night November 19th in Singapore -- Mark Zoradi To Deliver Premier Presentation

Bolt, Walt Disney Studio’s new animated feature set to open in the U.S. on Nov. 21, 2008 , will be honored as the opening night film at the 3DX: 3D Film & Entertainment Technology Festival, the first-ever festival of its kind dedicated to stereoscopic 3-D.

The Walt Disney Studios is a leader in 3-D filmmaking and Mark Zoradi, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Group, will be delivering a Premier Presentation on 3-D and Disney’s upcoming slate. “I am very excited to be attending the 3DX festival this year. The Walt Disney Studios continues to be at the forefront of 3-D technology with 10 films slated in the format in the next two years—including Bolt, the Jonas Brothers concert, Up, G-Force and Disney’s A Christmas Carol—following the tremendous success of Meet the Robinsons and Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds in Disney Digital 3-D this past year. This forum is a great opportunity to engage our partners and to explore the full potential of 3-D which is really changing the way we look at films.”

The 3DX festival and forum will take place from November 19 – 23, 2008 in Singapore and will be comprised of a business forum and film festival including: public screenings, festival based showings of newly released 3-D films, international speaker sessions, a gala red carpet reception and a special THR Intelligence trend report on the outlook of 3D for deployment in 2009 and beyond presented by Eric Mika, Vice President of Nielsen Entertainment Group and Publisher of THR.The Festival will be produced by Chabin Partners of Los Angeles and hosted by the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) with support from the Singapore Tourism Board and Singapore Economic Development Board. Participating organizations include CNBC, Content Asia, The Hollywood Reporter, NBC Universal TV Asia, Star TV and Star Movies, TV Week and The Motion Picture Association. 3DX digital cinema and 3D infrastructure provided by Technicolor. 3DX is presented by THR Intelligence and sponsored by ST Electronics. SingTel of Singapore has been named the Official Event Partner of the 3DX Festival. More information and ticket registration for 3DX can be found on www.3dxfestival.com.

This festival is the real deal folks. Heck they even landed James Cameron - can't help but wonder if we will finally see a glimpse of what he has in store for us with AVATAR during this festival... Could happen!

James Cameron to Headline 3DX keynote - Avatar footage may be shown

Hi everyone - Michael here. James Cameron will join Fox co-chair Jim Gianopulos and Dreamworks boss Jeffrey Katzenberg for the keynote address of the 3DX: 3D Film & Entertainment Technology Festival, which will be held in Singapore from November 19-23 and touts itself as the world's first fully 3-D based film festival.

Gianopulos tells Daily Variety that he expects to screen footage from either Ice Age 3, Avatar, or both, depending on what is ready to show, with the hope to speed the international transition to digital, which he calls, "slower than we'd like."

Certainly revealing Avatar would be the best way to pique the interest of the international exhibitors, as it will be the first 3-D film with mega-blockbuster potential. The timeframe also fits with Zoe Saldana's comment that we may see a teaser by December.

Keep an eye on the 3DX website for updates!

3DX: 3D Film & Entertainment Technology Festival - Singapore, November 19-23

Hey now this looks very inviting! Think I may need to plan a trip to Asia soon...

The 3DX: 3D Film & Entertainment Technology Festival is billed as the world's FIRST FULLY 3D Film Festival! This is awesome. I am not going to lie - I had the same idea for a 3D only film festival; its an idea whose time has come especially in light of the growing 3D component of recent film festivals and industry shows. I am glad that this is finally underway.

There are two confirmed 3D movies to be screened at the show: "Fly Me To The Moon" (Tim Curry) and "Journey To The Center Of The Earth 3D" (Brendan Fraser) - I would definitely look for more announcements for this show as there are a slew of other 3D movies opening up in that timeframe (see the 3D movie list).

Attendees will also be treated to a red carpet reception and celebration, forums featuring guest speakers, directors, 3-D pioneers, visionaries and catalysts, and other special entertainment events for the public.

More when it comes available.
