Ridley Scott's THE FOREVER WAR Back To The Front Lines!

Yes! Ridley Scott is apparently still pushing forward with his adaptation of Joe Haldeman's THE FOREVER WAR and has inked Dante (D.W.) Harper (ALL YOU NEED IS KILL, HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS) to adapt it for him.

No word on whether Harper was the original person that Scott hired to adapt the book or not. We knew someone was working on just that way back in 2009 (obviously before his 3D PROMETHEUS) when he said:

"I'm filming a book by Joe Haldeman called Forever War. I've got a good writer doing it. I've seen some of James Cameron's work, and I've got to go 3D. It's going to be phenomenal."

I'm just glad that this project hasn't gotten back-burnered with all of Scott's other projects on the go, like THE COUNSELOR, PROMETHEUS 2 and BLADE RUNNER 2. I have to underscore that the potential of this project is immense and easily could fall in line with Scott's other sci-fi classics.

I'm not kidding. This could be his finest hour in science fiction; the story is that good. More when we get it! Thanks for the heads up Adam...

Ridley Scott To Shoot ALIEN Prequel in 3D? AVATAR At Comicon?

Jim here. Coming straight from the guy who should know, Tom Rothman (Co-chairman, Fox) IESB caught him confirming that Ridley Scott is looking at returning to the ALIEN franchise with a prequel to the original movie that started it all.

Here is what Rothman had to say about Scott and an ALIEN prequel: "There's been some talk. Ridley Scott, Ridley is right now working on Robin Hood, but I think he's toying with the idea and that would be great for us. I mean, it's always been a matter of, really, if you can get the originator to do it that would be the greatest thing, so I've got my fingers crossed, all of them."

I think I would only entertain an ALIEN prequel using either Scott or Cameron - but preferably Scott as he started the whole ball rolling and it has to led into the first movie effectively.

Rothman was not asked directly if it would be shot in 3D, but we know that Ridley was NOT interested in ever doing another SciFi until he saw Cameron's AVATAR in action. Then he signed up for THE FOREVER WAR in 3D. If everything stays the way things are lined up, I GUARAN-FREAKIN'TEE YOU that ALIEN will be in stereoscopic 3D.

I don't know about all of you, but I am estatic that such great quality directors are coming on board 3D and embracing it. Let's hope a Ridley Scott ALIEN 3D Prequel comes to be! Who, I say, who is up for that?

ALSO - Rothman was ADAMANT that if you want to see what he hinted strongly was AVATAR soon, than you have to be at Comicon. Guess what? San Diego is about to be inundated with rapid Cameron fans this August. I guaran-freakin'tee that too. :-)

Ridley Scott Going SciFi In 3D With "Forever War"

YES! Jim here. I can hear the shouts of enthusiasm from all the corners of the world as the man who brought us such SciFi masterpieces as BLADE RUNNER and ALIEN is going 3D! Ridley Scott was recently interviewed at the BFI Southbank's Blade Runner Day and of course I caught it as MarketSaw is Grand Central 3D. We knew Ridley was interested in doing FOREVER WAR back in October 2008, but the 3D announcement is a VERY pleasant surprise to say the least.

From Wikipedia: "The Forever War is a 1974 science fiction novel by Joe Haldeman. It won the Nebula Award and Locus Award in 1975 and the Hugo Award in 1976. Both an action-laden and contemplative story of an interstellar war between humanity and the enigmatic Tauran species, it deals with themes like the inhumanity of both war and its attendant bureaucracy, as well as with the results of time dilation space travel which may cause a soldier to return to his home only after centuries have gone by."

We all know what Mr. Scott is capable of and he has proven himself over and over again (GLADIATOR, BLACK HAWK DOWN, THELMA & LOUISE) but it is this return to science fiction that will have everyone giddy all day. I know I am! In 3D no less.
