S3D Animation Update: A New TANGLED Sequel Short And Another HAPPY FEET 2 Trailer

Looks like Disney has discovered shorts once again (it's a good thing!) because they have announced that pre-rolling in front of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST 3D will be a short sequel entitled TANGLED EVER AFTER.

What I really like about this short is that EVERYONE is back! Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi (got a great autographed movie poster by Zach from Disney) are voicing again and the directors Nathan Greno and Byron Howard are back.

The Walt Disney Studios proudly announced today that directors Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, the talented team behind Disney Animation Studio’s global blockbuster Tangled, will premiere a delightful new animated short film spotlighting the royal wedding of Rapunzel (Mandy Moore) and Flynn Rider – a.k.a Eugene – (Zachary Levi) in front of each screening of Beauty and the Beast in 3D, which opens on January 13, 2012. By popular demand, Greno and Howard are bringing back some of Disney’s most beloved characters when TANGLED EVER AFTER picks up where Tangled left off. The Kingdom is in a festive mood as everyone gathers for the royal wedding of Rapunzel and Flynn. However, when Pascal and Maximus, as flower chameleon and ring bearer, respectively, lose the gold bands, a frenzied search and recovery mission gets underway. As the desperate duo tries to find the rings before anyone discovers that they’re missing, they leave behind a trail of comical chaos that includes flying lanterns, a flock of doves, a wine barrel barricade and a very sticky finale. Will Maximus and Pascal save the day and make it to the church in time? And will they ever get Flynn’s nose right?

TANGLED EVER AFTER is the perfect accompaniment to Beauty and the Beast, which is returning to the big screen in Disney Digital 3D™ and introducing a whole new generation to the Disney classic with stunning new 3D imagery. Beauty and the Beast was nominated for six Academy Awards®, winning Oscars® for Best Song, by the renowned Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, and Best Original Score (Menken).

I think this one is a sure fire home run as there has been a lack of quality G rated movies this year and families NEED them.

Mumble, The Master of Tap, has a problem because his son, Erik, is choreo-phobic. Reluctant to dance, Erik runs away and meets The Mighty Sven, a penguin who can fly!

How about Martin Scorsese's HUGO? Looks absolutely brilliant! Or that new sci-fi thriller THE DARKEST HOUR that features those new aliens that DON'T look humaniod. How about Tarsem Singh's IMMORTALS?

3D animation is certainly enjoying the extra dimension with THE LION KING enjoying it's second round and sequels and spinoffs in the making in HAPPY FEET 2 and PUSS IN BOOTS. I think PIB will do absolutely amazing business.

New Trailer For HAPPY FEET 2

Obviously this is a family film but hey - I still loved the first one. I was interested all the way through and the music was amazing. I expect more of the same with the sequel and the trailer certainly keeps me walking that road.

A Look At Warner Bros. 2011 Lineup Of Stereoscopic 3D Movies!

Warner Bros has been taking stereoscopic 3D very seriously for awhile now but I must say their 2011 production line up of feature films looks simply amazing.

Let's take a look at what is in store for us in 2011 from Warner Bros:

1. GREEN LANTERN (June 17): This is my most anticipated WB release for 2011. Yes even more than Part 2 of DEATHLY HALLOWS. I would also say it is equally if not more important for Warner Bros too: The HARRY POTTER franchise is now drawing to a close and the DC Comics vault is being opened for the big screen. There is no secret in that timing. Huge potential of course. We have really only seen the capes of Superman and Batman on the silver screen - will the other heroic characters resonate with audiences? Will the faithful fans be pleased with the end product?

From what I have seen so far - there is no need to worry. Ryan Reynolds is perfect for the role in my opinion - and yes I have heard the dissenting views believe me. This is a home run. Can't wait to see it paint a green aura all around world's box office next June. Heck work has already begun on GREEN LANTERN 2 and THE FLASH...

2. HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PT2 (July 15): Who hasn't been enchanted by the growth of this franchise and the development of these kids into fine young actors? While this is apparently the final movie in the HARRY POTTER series - all is not as it seems: Rowling has hinted that she will write further about the characters! Interesting indeed.

In the meantime, be prepared to witness a HUGE box office behemoth with this final release. Warner Bros will have had the time to complete this iteration in stereoscopic 3D and WILL reap the rewards. You can easily add a further 30% to the final tally. It was unfortunate that WB ran out of time in the 3D conversion of DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 1, but all is not lost - they will recoup all of that and more with the 3D Blu-ray release in the coming years.

This movie WILL be shown in IMAX 3D.

3. FINAL DESTINATION 5 (August 26): Ahhh the never ending confrontations with 'Death'! I truly enjoyed the fourth in the series and the 3D added that extra spark for me. Yes, 3D in horror is ALLOWED to be proudly gimmicky and rest assured that the fifth in the franchise will continue to throw things at us. And what's wrong with that? Sound is used as a gimmick in horror too: How many of you have jumped when the audience is blasted with 1,000,000 decibels cued exactly when a cat merely jumps off camera into view? 3D is amplifying that. And I love it. For use in horror and JACK-ASS movies only please. :-)

4. DOLPHIN TALE (October 7): Yes, this is the true story about the boy who gathers a community together to build a prosthetic tail for a dolphin who lost it in a crab trap. SO - be prepared to bring a whole thing of Kleenex with you for your family. It is gonna get messy. You might as well be going to see a dolphin show in the front row - because that's how much water works are going to be happening. That said, it should be a good experience as water works so well in 3D - and a true story never hurts.

5. HAPPY FEET 2 (November 18): I will be the first to admit my feet were happy during the original!! Loved the score. And man can that Robin Williams belt a tune! :-) Not too much more to say than: I WANT MORE - this time in 3D!

Animated Adventure. 6. JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND (Release Date TBD): No more Brendan Fraser. *single tear of remorse* Ok, not really. I think Dwayne Johnson has got this thing sewn up. In fact I think he will do a better job than Fraser in this role. Sadly, to date he has not had the worldwide box office clout that Fraser has (which is actually quite a phenomenon). Back is Josh Peter Parker Hutcherson which is a good thing. Michael Caine? Brilliant move. Looking forward to that.

The live action 3D cinematography was excellent in the original JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH, especially the Iceland scenes. And the T-Rex in 3D chase sequence? Amazing. LOVED it. Hoping for more of the same excellence.

This movie WILL be shown in IMAX 3D.

So there's the roundup! I'll be taking my family to see YOGI BEAR on December 17 (another Warner Bros 3D movie) and let me tell you the kids are amped up about it! Note that they also have a 3D documentary entitled BORN TO BE WILD (release date April 8 in IMAX only), narrated by Morgan Freeman that looks darn good too.

It gives me great pleasure to review what the coming months have in store for us in S3D from Warner Bros because they have earned it. When a major studio commits the way they have to 3D they have my ear. Good luck with the DC Comics vault guys and here's hoping for more Potter!!

What Movies Will Warner Bros Make 3D In 2011? Here's The List! And A Probable Too...

Got a list of Warner Bros upcoming movies that are definitely going 3D in 2011 so let's talk about those first:

- SUCKER PUNCH (March 25): Directed by Zack Snyder. Starring Vanessa Hudgens and Scott Glenn. A young girl is institutionalized by her wicked stepfather. Retreating to an alternative reality as a coping strategy, she envisions a plan which will help her escape from the facility.
- GREEN LANTERN (June 17): Directed by Martin Campbell. Starring Ryan Reynolds, Peter Sarsgaard and Blake Lively. A test pilot is granted a mystical green ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe.
- HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART II (July 15): Directed by David Yates. Starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Ralph Fiennes, Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, John Hurt, Bill Nighy, Robbie Coltrane, Tom Felton and Helena Bonham Carter. The end is near as Harry, Ron, and Hermione go back to Hogwarts to find and destroy Voldemort's final horcruxes, but when Voldemort finds out about their mission, the biggest battle begins and life as they know it will never be the same again.
- FINAL DESTINATION 5 (Aug 26): Little is known about the fifth installment of the franchise but Eric Heisserer wrote the screenplay.
- JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH 2 (Sep 23): Directed by Brad Peyton. Starring Josh Hutcherson (so far). Little is known about the project's storyline.
- CONTAGION (Oct 21): Directed by Steven Soderbergh. Starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow and Marion Cotillard. Deadly worldwide outbreak of a virus.
- HAPPY FEET 2 (Nov 18): Directed by George Miller. Voices by Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Robin Williams, Elijah Wood and Hank Azaria. No storyline is known as of yet.

And the probables?

- THE HANGOVER 2 (May 26): Starring Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms. I asked Director Todd Phillips about it personally and he said that he would love to shoot it in 3D. This is a safe bet guys. The original movie hit the jackpot with $470m worldwide! Rumors are abound that Miami (according to Robin Leach) will be the location for the next HANGOVER - what do you think?
- SHERLOCK HOLMES 2 (Mid December 2011): Directed by Guy Ritchie. Starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. The LATimes spoke with the writers for the movie who said: "Sherlock would be great in 3-D".

3D Shorts: HAPPY FEET 2 In 3D; Weta's Growing; GEARS OF WAR 3D?

Jim here. Here are some rapid fire 3D news to keep you all up to speed!

~HAPPY FEET 2 will be in 3D! I will not refrain from expressing my enthusiasm for this sequel because I LOVED the first one - the soundtrack was superb. Release is pegged for November 18, 2011.

This is a movie franchise that is a pleasure to bring your family to see. I hope they can whip up more of the music magic once again!

~Peter Jackson's Weta is spawning a new working group called Transfx, headed up by Sebastian Sylwan who was previously the Director of Technology at Digital Domain and CTO @ the FX shop Lumiq. They will seek to bring a pragmatic edge to the new tech that Weta has developed by working on AVATAR and TINTIN: Making their FX reuseable/malleable for other projects.

This, of course, is a great idea. Hats off to the Weta team who are definitely in this thing for the long run!

~GEARS OF WAR still in the works! MTV recently spoke to Chris Morgan, screenwriter for GoW: "A draft went in and we’re talking about it now and we’re budgeting it out,” Morgan told MTV. “It’s looking incredibly good." Len Wiseman is still attached to direct. "It’s huge,” Morgan declared of the project’s scope. “One of the things they’re really talking about now is the budget of the film and how big of a spectacle this is going to be. My argument is, look at the underlying material. Look at the game and the scenario — the fact that the world is being taken over by the Locust, it has to be huge." Still no official word on this being shot in 3D - but, sometimes you just KNOW. Wiseman likes the idea. :-)

This movie will indeed be massive. At the box office too! Are you kidding me; GoW in 3D? A no-brainer.
