Watch: New ANT-MAN Trailer #2 Mentions The Avengers

Finally The Avengers are acknowledged as an alternative to going solo against a villain who could threaten the world in these standalone Marvel movies. I know that question was ringing in my ears when S.H.I.E.L.D. was essentially destroyed in Marvel's universe before Ultron.

I won't spoil the trailer further for you, but it's worth watching on a number of levels and actually is the best to date if you ask me. It's interesting to watch the marketing unfold for this movie as it is vastly different than the others - something Marvel excels at doing.

Here's the movie's storyline:
The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ ANT-MAN. Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Directed by Peyton Reed and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s ANT-MAN stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll as Darren Cross aka Yellowjacket, Bobby Cannavale as Paxton, Michael Peña as Luis, Judy Greer as Maggie, Tip “Ti” Harris as Dave, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, Wood Harris as Gale, Jordi Mollà as Castillo and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym.

ANT-MAN opens on July 17.

Now It All Makes Cents! Check The New Trailer For Marvel's ANT-MAN

I'm not sure what to make of ANT-MAN yet and I suppose that's about where I should be as all we have to go on is the released media thus far, but I think I'm going to enjoy the movie. If Marvel can swing and hit the fences with GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and absolutely nail the humor required to make it work - I think we're in good hands with ANT-MAN.

What do you think?

Here's the storyline for the movie:

Watch: Full Sized Teaser Trailer For Marvel's ANT-MAN

Ok so this is not the teaser for the teaser for the trailer, this is now the teaser for the trailer and I cut if off here. I won't post on trailers that don't show anything like the tiny one Marvel released earlier in the week and I'm sure you won't mind. But this teaser actually does show shots from the movie and first looks at several characters like Corey Stall and Evangeline Lilly - so have a look!

You can view the whole trailer coming up on the two-hour series premiere of "Marvel's Agent Carter" Tuesday, January 6 at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC!

Here's the storyline for the movie:
Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Michael Douglas Joins Marvel's ANT-MAN As Hank Pym !

As you probably already know, we don't usually post stories on casting unless it is a jaw dropper that could potentially change the trajectory of a production.

Michael Douglas is one of those types of actors! Love him in just about everything he does right back to THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO which I barely remember as a child. Sure I was intrigued by the selection of Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, but I didn't go "wow". I definitely think it will work with him as the lead, but I've never really resonated with him as an A-list actor. Douglas? He is Mr. A-list in my book. Douglas, Morgan Freeman, Jack Nicholson, Harrison Ford and Sean Connery define "movie star" for me. In other words, you've got to earn it over a career.

So now I'm definitely excited with ANT-MAN. Sure the story always held tons of promise, but now the characters can be solidly built around these two anchor actors. Edgar Wright was always a great choice for director from the get-go and I think Marvel has slam dunked another one here.

Apparently Douglas was asked earlier on in the pre-production but he had reservations of some sort or another. Those appear to have been resolved (salary issues? Perhaps. Marvel is known for tight purse strings) and Mr. Gecko himself is stepping up. I'm smiling at Bud Fox right now; my limo window closing...

Here's what producer Kevin Feige had to say about the announcement: "With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves,” said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. “We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life."

Indeed history and the importance of Pym in the Marvel Universe plays very key roles here. How is Wright and Marvel dealing with how to boot up this franchise? A younger Pym? And older Pym with the suit and name passed on to Lang? Many, many questions that all seem much more intriguing now with Douglas in the mix.

More when we get it!

ANT-MAN is slated to open on July 31, 2015.
