If you loved the original SIN CITY, then it seems you will love SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR, and isn't that what sequels are about anyway? More of the same type of experience? So if you like highly stylized, predominantly black and white, VFX locations and over the top characters then you are in for another treat. It looks amazing!
It's refreshing to see the SIN CITY treatment because it breaks the traditions of Hollywood and opens your mind to the endless possibilities of this genre and in storytelling.
Of course there is no shortage of talent lined up for this movie, starring Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Jeremy Piven, Ray Liotta and Stacy Keach.
Here's the storyline for the movie: Co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller reunite to bring Miller’s visually stunning SIN CITY graphic novels back to the screen in SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR. Weaving together two of Miller’s classic stories with new tales, the town’s most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more notorious inhabitants. SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR is the follow up to Rodriguez and Miller’s 2005 groundbreaking film, FRANK MILLER’S SIN CITY.
John Luessenhop's TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D buzzed the holdovers this Friday with an estimated $10.2 million take and heading for a low $20 million weekend - good enough for first place at the box office. Meanwhile THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY is still hiking up the box office record list very successfully. It may surpass THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING ($23 m) for the best 4th weekend of the Middle-earth Tolkien franchises. JOURNEY is looking at a potential $16 million haul this weekend. Already the movie has gathered $252 million domestically and $513 million for a worldwide total of $765 million.
Here's the top 5 performers on Friday:
1. TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D: $10.2 million
2. DJANGO UNCHAINED: $6.2 million
3. THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY: $5.2 million
4. LES MISERABLES: $4.9 million
5. PARENTAL GUIDANCE: $3.1 million HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS opens on the 25th and thus yet another 3D movie will be pushed into the top 5 - stay tuned for more results next week. In the meantime, have a look at the red band trailer (if you're of age!):
Here's the storyline for the movie: Catching up with Hansel (Renner) and Gretel (Arterton) 15 years after the traumatic incident involving a gingerbread house, the siblings have evolved into vengeful bounty hunters dedicated to exterminating witches. Over the years, the siblings became expert hunters, famous for their proficiency at tracking and taking down their prey. Although still recovering from their ordeal, their work is relatively easy as for an unknown reason harmful spells and curses do not work well against them. The Mayor of Augsburg recruits them to rid the town and nearby forests of an evil sorceress (Janssen) who is planning to sacrifice many local children at the witches’ gathering during the upcoming ‘Blood Moon’ night in two days time. To make things worse, the duo also has to deal with the brutal Sheriff Berringer (Stormare) who has taken power in Augsburg and conducts a very indiscriminate witch-hunt of his own.
WOW. I knew I was going to like this movie, but WOW. Makes you totally forget what happened to Stallone's version of the comic-book. Karl Urban looks great in the role and DREDD 3D looks shockingly violent with a grunge feel. Love the visuals and the use of slo-mo (which is also part of the plot).
Note that this trailer is red band so it's not safe for viewing at work. There are no plot spoilers in this thing, but definite visual spoilers - you WILL get a sense for what this movie will feel like. To me, I recommend watching this thing. Again and again. :-)
You can also enter a contest to win a trip to London to see an exclusive screening of the movie by going to the movie's official website.
Here's the official movie storyline: The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called "Judges" who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge - a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of "Slo-Mo" experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.
During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan's inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound's control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.
The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film. Filmed in 3D with stunning slow motion photography sequences, the film returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip.
Yes, this is very much not safe for work. The latest bit of marketing for PIRANHA 3DD hits the spinning Internet via FunnyorDie and actually is quite funny! I mean with The Hoff and Gary Busey and all, how can you go wrong?
The movie is blatant sexism though, so if you watch it, be prepared. It's audience knows who they are and they are marketing DIRECTLY at them with this featurette.
Have a look if you dare! There is actually a spoiler in this thing, so again YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Here's the movie's storyline:
After the terror unleashed on Lake Victoria in PIRANHA 3D, the pre-historic school of blood thirsty piranhas are back. This time, no one is safe from the flesh eating fish as they sink their razor sharp teeth into the visitors of summer’s best attraction, The Big Wet Water Park. Christopher Lloyd (BACK TO THE FUTURE) reprises his role as the eccentric piranha expert with survivor Paul Scheer (THE LEAGUE) and a partially devoured Ving Rhames (PULP FICTION) back for more fish frenzy. David Hasselhoff trades in the sandy beaches of “Baywatch” to be a celebrity lifeguard at the racy water park. Prepare for double the terror, double the action and double the D’s in this sequel also starring Gary Busey (LETHAL WEAPON), Katrina Bowden (30 ROCK), Danielle Panabaker (THE CRAZIES), Matt Bush (ADVENTURELAND), Chris Zylka (THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN) and David Koechner (ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON BURGUNDY).
Yes - it's red band so you know what to expect here. Not safe for work. really it is the same trailer as before only they have added a few more scenes of nudity. Don't watch this if you're under age!
In other words, not too much more to comment on - it's the same ol' PIRANHA 3DD.
Here's the storyline: Having awoken from their spring break extravaganza at Lake Victoria, the swarm heads upstream where they look to make a meal out of Big Wet, a local water park where when it comes to fun, nobody does it wetter! Though they came to get wet, get loaded and get some, the staff and patrons get more than they bargained for when they must face the fiercest, most bloodthirsty piranhas yet. Lead by the strong-willed, studious Maddy and her friends, Barry and Kyle, the trio must dive in and take on these man-eating creatures using every ounce of their being…but can they be stopped? Shot in 3-D and feauturing Esquire Magazine’s “2011 Sexiest Woman Alive,” Katrina Bowden and the return of Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer and Ving Rhames alongside fresh bait Gary Busey and David Hasselhoff, the film that took an $80 Million bite out of the box office is back for more…only this time it has double the terror and double the D!
Note that we still don't have a release date for this film despite its promised 2012 release year (JUNE 1 - same day as the VOD release).
Who doesn't like a red band trailer once in awhile? We have the CONAN THE BARBARIAN restricted trailer and it looks bloody well good. Look at yourself in the mirror and if you're of age click play below!
If you are squeamish, underage or at work think twice about watching this red band clip from SAW 3D. The title of the clip ('Jill's Demise') is not hidden, however given that you have probably seen the trailers (which highlight some of this scene) then you could most likely guess what happens anyway.
SAW 3D is only a week away now and the excitement is building :-) Will this truly be the last SAW movie? How on earth is this thing wrapped up? Will Jigsaw be rebooted?
