Marvel's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY took in
another $16m this weekend for it's third non-consecutive, weekend box office crown. That makes $280m so far with $305m forecast domestically.
Worldwide GOTG has taken $554m and counting.
I've seen this movie three times already, once with my daughter who I wanted to introduce to the brand as
potentially her generation's STAR WARS. I feel the movie is that important.
Audiences shelled out $12m for TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES' second place showing - another 3D movie. I haven't seen this yet, but hope to in the coming weeks. It dropped 30% from last weekend and
has accumulated a nice $162m thus far.
SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR has bottomed out already and has only a fraction of what the original made.
I feel for Robert Rodriguez who I admire as a filmmaker.
Can GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY hold on again for a fourth first place victory? Stay tuned!
If you loved the original SIN CITY, then it seems you will love SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR, and isn't that what sequels are about anyway? More of the same type of experience?
So if you like highly stylized, predominantly black and white, VFX locations and over the top characters then you are in for another treat.
It looks amazing!
It's refreshing to see the SIN CITY treatment because it breaks the traditions of Hollywood and
opens your mind to the endless possibilities of this genre and in storytelling.
Of course there is no shortage of talent lined up for this movie, starring Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Jeremy Piven, Ray Liotta and Stacy Keach.
Here's the storyline for the movie:
Co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller reunite to bring Miller’s visually stunning SIN CITY graphic novels back to the screen in SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR. Weaving together two of Miller’s classic stories with new tales, the town’s most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more notorious inhabitants. SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR is the follow up to Rodriguez and Miller’s 2005 groundbreaking film, FRANK MILLER’S SIN CITY.
SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR opens on August 22.
Check two new posters for Dimension's SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR. The obviously stylized posters are for the obviously stylized movie franchise
but this time the movie will be in 3D - perfect for this genre based on the graphic novels of Frank Miller (300).
I'm actually much more excited about this movie because of the 3D than the original. Not surprising coming from me I know, but
I really think that 3D will dramatically improve the audiences suspension of disbelief for this genre. Can't wait!

Great news -
Bruce Willis (Hartigan) is returning to the SIN CITY franchise in co-director Robert Rodriguez's SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR.
Joining him is Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Josh Brolin, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Christopher Melonni, Jaime King, Jamie Chung and Dennis Haysbert.
Rodriguez addressed the native 3D shoot with MTV:
"We shot this in 3D. We didn’t shoot Sin City in 3D. I wouldn’t want to convert that one probably. The difference in shooting it is just… you can’t even compare. Because this is a very two dimensional world it’s very stylised. To see that kind of stylisation in 3D will blow people’s mind."
Here's a brief storyline from Amazon:
Stuck with nothing but a seedy gumshoe job and some demons, Dwight's thinking of all the ways he's screwed up and what he'd give for one clear chance to wipe the slate clean, to dig his way out of the numb gray hell that is his life. And he'd give anything. Just to feel the fire. One more time. But he can't let himself lose control again, can't ever let the monster out. And then Ava calls.
Can't wait to see this franchise in 3D for the first time - it's practically begging for the third dimension! SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR opens on October 4.
Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba are both confirmed to return to Robert Rodriguez's and Frank Miller's SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR --and-- it will be in 3D! It's going to be wild to see their unique way of shooting presented in three dimensions...
Look for the movie on October 4, 2013.
