After news that TRON 3 is greenlit and will be shot in Vancouver by director Joseph Kosinski, we now have word that both Garrett Hedlund (Sam Flynn) and Olivia Wilde (Quorra) will be returning to the fantasy world. TRON: LEGACY made $400 million worldwide so it's little wonder why Disney is revisiting again.
It would make sense that if Quorra (an ISO - a computer program) can leave the grid as she did at the end of LEGACY, then perhaps others may follow her out into our "world". That premise makes for a very fascinating storyline and it's rumored that the movie will be exploring it and perhaps will be entitled TRON: ASCENSION.
More information when I get it! TRON 3 starts shooting in October.
Vancouver's VanCity Buzz (reliable news source) is saying that the sequel to Disney's 2010 TRON: LEGACY will begin lensing in the city October 5.
From VanCity: A majority of Tron: Legacy was shot at Canadian Motion Picture Park in Burnaby while some ‘real world’ scenes were filmed at the Shangri-La Vancouver Hotel (ENCOM headquarters), the Lions Gate Bridge (final escape scene) and neighbourhoods in East Vancouver.
It appears that lead Garrett Hedlund and director Joseph Kosinski WILL return according to rumors.
I've lived in Vancouver and LOVE it. I'll update you on locations for TRON 3 as soon as I have them. No word on whether TRON 3 will continue in the fine tradition of TRON: LEGACY's native 3D, which in my mind absolutely demands it.
Music to my ears! I loved TRON: LEGACY and so without reservation I have been looking forward to a sequel especially because the principals are still there: Joseph Kosinski is directing and it looks like the top line actors are returning.
Here is what Bruce Boxleitner had to say on the subject: "It’s in the works. Anything could happen, but all I can say is, it’s in its formative stages. [Joseph] Kosinski, who is slated for it, he’s shooting another movie now, and then they’ll get around to doing that. I think somewhere around 2014, maybe. I’m talking way out of school here, but they can’t shoot me because I’m Tron."
He added further: "The last movie didn’t end. It actually started the next movie and then went to black."
Boxleitner has been the only one from the LEGACY production to let us know about a potential sequel and continues to do so. Though the first time he told us he was thinking a release in 2013, which obviously isn't going to happen.
Well I hope this man is in the know and by all means he is in a position to, so I am going with it! We have news (via AICN) of TRON 3 being a "done deal" through the spoken word of Bruce Boxleitner (who plays TRON) and that we will see the movie in 2013. Production will probably start next year according to Boxleitner.
Obviously the production will be in 3D, although nothing has been officially confirmed to my knowledge. Disney won't drop the ball on this one!
If I had one piece of advice for Disney it would be to use Weta for the facial performance capture. The young Jeff Bridges did not look up to snuff in TRON: LEGACY. It was distracting at times too. Go with the best!
Have a listen to what Tron himself had to say:
So what do you think? Are you amped about a TRON 3 hitting is in 2013? Any suggestions for Disney?
This is actually very cool.Definitely a must watch for TRON fans! The clip supposedly is included on the upcoming disc releases for TRON LEGACY.
This clip will probably be removed VERY quickly so enjoy while you can online.
The teaser gives us an idea of where the TRON braintrust is taking us next on this journey. Be careful, there are minor spoilers at the end of the clip.
Want it all on disc? The DVD and Blu-ray are coming April 5. :-)
