MUST SEE: New TINTIN Image!

Hey guys - when I get more TINTIN news I like to pass it on right away so here is a still image from the upcoming tentpole. Tintin is obviously nose deep into a book, potentially researching something for his adventure.

I like this shot much more than the earlier ones AND the trailer actually. It shows some fairly intense reading and comprehension going on which is a challenge to do when all you have is performance capture data to go on. Ask James Cameron and weta. But weta has this DOWN. I am so confident that all will be ok with the uncanny valley that I seldom even think about it not being achieved! Jamie Bell's emotions will be capped in this thing and from his body of work it looks like he can get the job done. Especially with Spielberg's tutelage.

More info when I get it! Look for TINTIN on December 23 (October 26 in Europe - a good move because Tintin is HUGE over there and will build massive anticipation over here).

UPDATE: Full First Look At TINTIN And More!

Empire finally released the whole first look image from THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN and it looks striking! Exactly what I had anticipated from the project in fact. Tintin (Jamie Bell) looks like a photo-real representation of what Herge himself drew!

Further we have another two shots from the movie to have a look at the first is a look at Captain Haddock (Andy Serkis) and the second is Tintin, Haddock and Snowy looking stranded on a capsized lifeboat. At least it looks like a lifeboat. Could be a DOREY though. ;-)

Says Peter Jackson: “With live action you’re going to have actors pretending to be Captain Haddock and Tintin. You’d be casting people to look like them. It’s not really going to feel like the Tintin Hergé drew. It’s going to be somewhat different. With CGI we can bring Hergé’s world to life, keep the stylised caricatured faces, keep everything looking like Hergé’s artwork, but make it photo-real.”

Jackson continues on talking about what we might see in his directorial TINTIN: “One of my favourites is The Seven Crystal Balls, so that’s the one I’ve always been thinking of,” he says. “I also really like the Eastern European ones, the Balkan ones like King Ottokar’s Sceptre and The Calculus Affair. I think it’s a terrific setting for a thriller, the weird Balkan politics and the mysterious secret service agents. I think the Moon ones are terrific, but they’d be good for the third or fourth Tintin film, if we get that far. We want to keep his feet on the ground just a little bit longer.”

Says Steven Spielberg: “The first part of the film, which is the most mysterious part, certainly owes much to not only film noir but the whole German Brechtian theatre — some of our night scenes and our action scenes are very contrasty. But at the same time the movie is a hell of an adventure.”

With the creative genius behind this feature,
the characters of Herge and the second-to-none delivery of Weta on effects (AVATAR anyone?) we are sure to see a spectacular movie and sequels! The worldwide response will be staggering too. Can't wait.

Date Set For Tintin: December 23, 2011

Jim here. TINTIN has a date with you - December 23, 2011 for the first installment from Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg entitled THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN. Paramount is the distributor for US, Canada, Australia, Asia, UK and all other English speaking countries with Sony handling mainland Europe, Latin America and India.

From THR: "Jamie Bell stars as the globetrotting young reporter Tintin, who faces off against the nefarious Red Rackham, played by Daniel Craig. Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Gad Elmaleh, Toby Jones and Mackenzie Crook co-star."

Well this one is obviously going to be a worldwide phenomenon! TINTIN is beloved in Europe and with two of the best in the business creating this world for us, we are going to be in for a special treat. There is NO doubt that the sequels will happen.

New "Tintin" Set Photo: Facial Performance Capture Camera Revealed

Jim here. Looks like Empire has got the goods on TINTIN as they release their Steven Spielberg guest edited edition this weekend. Looks like there could be some very nice shots coming our way from this edition. What do you pay a top 5 director to edit your stuff? Hmmm...

In this photo, Tintin (Jamie Bell) and Captain Haddock (Andy Serkis) are reviewing a scene with Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson. I refuse to post *any photo* with ridiculous sized watermarks on it. Sorry. However I have managed some nice images cropped around it posted here. Or you can click that link.

Check out all the tiny white dots on their faces for the performance capture requirements. Those dots will catch every tiny facial motion they make as they act out their scenes. See the tiny camera being held in place in front of Bell's face? That is the camera that captures those facial dot movements. Now you KNOW Gollum is gonna have some fun with that! The facial camera rigs if memory serves is 100% Weta property and they are the world leaders in this technology.

Further, have a look at all the TINTIN comic strips on the walls in the background. Surely these are hints as to what will actually be shown in the movie - are there any TINTIN fans that can shine any light on that? Yes, we know the adventure that will be focused on (SECRET OF THE UNICORN), but what can these strips tell us?

Could someone please scan the magazine (EMPIRE) and send us the photos as I *HATE* posting images with huge, obtuse watermarks on them - like this one. I don't do it (unless hiding a face or something) and I wish other sites wouldn't either. With scans at least we can post something viewable. Thanks!

Quick Post: "Tintin" Gets A Title, Screenwriters and Casting

Exciting news today from Paramount and Sony: Jamie Bell (DEFIANCE, JUMPER) will be Tintin, along with Daniel Craig (QUANTUM OF SOLACE) playing Red Rackham in THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: SECRET OF THE UNICORN!

Steven Spielberg will be helming the first iteration of the franchise and joining Bell and Craig will be Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Mackenzie Crook, Gad Elmaleh and Toby Jones.

Announced writers today are Steven Moffat (DOCTOR WHO), Edgar Wright (SHAUN OF THE DEAD) with Joe Cornish with the screenplay duties.

Release is slated for 2011. Principal photography starts TODAY!

I love these choices! I was impressed with Bell in JUMPER and thought he carried his scenes very well - quite athletic too which will be important in the performace capture.

Daniel Craig is of course no slouch and should be interesting to see how performance capture works on 007.

Well now I am stoked! A 2011 release as well! Love it when a plan comes together... Bring on Jackson!
