THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT Will Be In 3D - 8 Character Posters Revealed!

The next DIVERGENT installment entitled THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT, has been confirmed to be in 3D and 8 interactive 3D posters have been released in the past day to publicize the movie. The posters are for the main characters namely: Caleb (Ansel Elgort), Tori (Maggie Q), Uriah (Keiynan Lonsdale), Max (Mekhi Phifer), Peter (Miles Teller), Christina (Zoë Kravitz), Four (Theo James) and Tris (Shailene Woodley).

I enjoyed the first movie - better than THE HUNGER GAMES in many ways. Now that the second movie in the franchise will be 3D, it'll be all that more appealing. This genre begs for 3D and helps suspend disbelief - can't wait to see their end result.

Here's the movie's storyline:
THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.

THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT launches in theaters March 20, 2015.

LOOK: New Poster For NURSE 3D - Release Set February 2014!

Lionsgate has finally given a release date for it's horror movie NURSE 3D and the studio decided to inject us with a new poster featuring Paz de la Huerta. Clearly it's an exploitation project and I'm very curious how it's all going to wind up looking on the big screen.

The first poster was a little too graphic for MarketSaw - but you can view it here.

I know the stereographer of the movie, Brent Robinson and we met recently in Toronto and discussed NURSE 3D and his upcoming projects. I think I'll try to line up an interview with him if he can squeeze me into his busy schedule so we can discuss the movie. If you have any questions, let me know!

Here's the storyline for the movie:
Nurse 3D is a thriller/horror film directed by Doug Aarniokoski and written by David Loughery starring Paz de la Huerta, Katrina Bowden, Corbin Bleu. By day Abby Russell is a dedicated nurse, someone you wouldn’t hesitate to trust your life with. But by night, her real work begins…using her smoldering sexuality she lures cheating men to their brutal deaths and exposes them for who they really are. When a younger nurse starts to suspect Abby’s actions and compromises her master plan, Abby must find a way to outsmart her long enough to bring the cheater you’d least expect to justice.

NURSE 3D opens on February 7, 2014.

Update On I, FRANKENSTEIN: New Image And Discussion With James McQuaide EP And VFX Supervisor!

Had a discussion with my friend James McQuaide recently about I, FRANKENSTEIN - he's Executive Producer and Visual Effects Supervisor on the movie and let me tell you this guy knows his stuff. Last time I saw him was on the set of UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING where he took me under his wing and even showed me his complex previz material for UA on an iPad. Then I had the distinct pleasure in watching them shoot what I just saw in concept.

3D is very important to James and to that end they are again implementing LIDAR (also used on UA) to accurately capture the sets of the I, FRANKENSTEIN production. I saw how they use LIDAR first hand on UA, sweeping around in a 360 degree fashion and digitally representing everything. They move the machine around to various locations on the set to capture all angles of objects too of course. The point is, Prime Focus (who are the 3D post-production conversion house for IF) will not only have the 2D footage to work with but also the LIDAR data, allowing for them to literally see behind objects on set and accurately apply depth. LIDAR not only provides 3D geometric information, but also RGB which can all be applied on the 2D optical image for post-production.

Says James on LIDAR:  "Loved it so much that we purchased a Faro Focus 3D (which we used daily on IF)."

I firmly believe this is the future of 3D conversion - LIDAR or some derivative. Mark my words.

Continues James: "We shot and posted it all in Australia (including all VFX). Think it's pretty great. Comes out in January. We're in the process of converting it with Prime Focus and it's looking very good. All of the VFX facilities have provided layers, effects, etc. to ensure that the 3D is spot-on - we have quite a few enormous VFX shots that would be a nightmare to convert without elements. We also LIDAR-ed most every set which is, again, aiding the accuracy of the conversion."

"...Prime Focus has the advantage of working on a picture that is not in flux; they've been working for months now and have (1-2 months) still to go; it was an imperative before we committed to the conversion that there was sufficient time; I, FRANKENSTEIN is a terrific picture and deserves the kind of conversion quality that only time can buy."

By the way, they're already talking about an I, FRANKENSTEIN sequel so I'm expecting Lionsgate is very happy with the results thus far. Can't wait to see it! More when I get it.

Stay tuned for the upcoming I, FRANKENSTEIN trailer dropping on Friday!

I. FRANKENSTEIN opens in 3D on January 24, 2014.

I, FRANKENSTEIN Will Be Released In 3D!!

During an analyst call, Rob Friedman of Lionsgate announced that I, FRANKENSTEIN will be released in 3D.

As you may know, Aaron Eckhart will play Adam Frankenstein and that Stuart Beattie wrote and is directing the movie that's based on a Kevin Grevioux (UNDERWORLD) graphic novel.

Further I have no information that this is a native 3D shoot, so I'd wager that Lionsgate is going the route of a 3D conversion.

Be sure to check out all of 2013's 3D movie releases right here.

Here's the movie's storyline:
I FRANKENSTEIN is a modern-day epic: Frankenstein’s creature, ADAM (Eckhart), has survived to present day due to a genetic quirk in his creation. Making his way to a dark, gothic metropolis, he finds himself caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans.

I, FRANKENSTEIN is now slated for a September 13 release.

Sylvester Stallone Wants HUNTER In 3D By 2014!

Sylvester Stallone has owned the movie rights to James Byron Huggins' HUNTER for some time now and at one point was interested in using the material as fodder for RAMBO 5. Now he is thinking of a standalone movie and Lionsgate seems to agree.

The target for release is 2014. Stallone would be writing, directing and starring in the sci-fi action thriller which will apparently stay loyal to the book (from Amazon):

Nathaniel Hunter could track anyone -- or anything -- on earth. Now the military desperately needs him for a mission that his ultrasensitive instincts tell him he should refuse. A beast is loose somewhere north of the Arctic Circle. It has already decimated a secret research facility and annihilated a squad of elite military guards. And the raging creature is headed south toward civilization, ready to wreak bloody devastation.

It's a job that Hunter can't turn down, but he soon discovers that his prey is terror incarnate, a half-human abomination created by a renegade agency through a series of outlawed genetic experiments. It has man's cunning, a predator's savageness, and a prehistoric power that has transcended the ages. And even if Hunter survives its unrelenting hunger for human blood, he'll still have to confront the grim reality that it may have grown immortal.

This sounds like a perfect vehicle for Stallone and I'd be very interested to see this in 3D. The potential of blowing snow enveloping us as an audience while immersed in the movie sounds amazing. Really hoping this gets made. More when I get it.

Yes! Karl Urban's DREDD: "I Am The Law" Clip!

PERFECT! I wanted to see this part of the movie so badly I was afraid I shouldn't spoil it beforehand, but the clip is quite short so I personally don't feel as though I have betrayed anything by doing so.

Fair warning though - this is the trademarked phrase from Judge Dredd, "I am the law" and he is using it in the movie so if you want a pristine viewing experience, stop watching these things!

Continuing on, I am over the top with this movie - everything looks amazing and paying tribute to the original intent of the comic (that I can see thus far anyway). Can't wait!

Here's the movie's storyline:
The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One–a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge–a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

DREDD opens on September 21.

MUST WATCH: TV Spot #2 For Karl Urban's DREDD

Check out the latest from Lionsgate's DREDD starring Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey. Love where they're taking this movie and the slo-mo scenes look STUNNING.

We've got a few more quotable quotes from Urban in this one too - I won't give them away and spoil them for you! Watch it!

Here's the movie's storyline:
In a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.

DREDD opens on September 21.

Must See: New Posters For DREDD And CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: WORLD'S AWAY

Couple of new posters for you from promising and upcoming 3D movies - DREDD and CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: WORLD'S AWAY.

First up is the graffiti style poster for Karl Urban's DREDD. Reminiscent of how Sony tackled some of the viral marketing for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, Lionsgate is now leveraging the maneuver and I think for the most part it works. The symbolism is clearly targeted at Dredd's helmet and the 'X' design where his eyebrows would be underneath.

DREDD opens on September 21.

--

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: WORLD'S AWAY is a completely different genre movie altogether! While DREDD is a solid 'R' for a rating, WORLD'S AWAY will focus on a family experience. The poster offers a cinematic take on what will surely be sensory overload for the eyes.

The athletes of the Cirque are one of kind. This movie should also be one of a kind, and if you haven't seen the trailer yet, you can click over right here.

Produced by none other than James Cameron, we should be taken on quite a visionary journey to the world of Cirque du Soleil. Have you seen any of their work? If so, you can imagine what this will be like - all shot in native 3D using the equipment and expertise of the Cameron | Pace Group.

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: WORLD'S AWAY opens on December 21.

Must See: New DREDD Poster "Judgment Is Coming"

Loving the artistry for this poster! I get a flashback to MAD MAX when I see it, especially his body armor. The rooftop angle also reminds me of several super hero properties out there.

Here's the storyline for DREDD:
The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One–a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. MUST WATCH: Karl Urban's DREDD 3D Red Band NSFW Trailer Drops From Comic-Con!!

WOW. I knew I was going to like this movie, but WOW. Makes you totally forget what happened to Stallone's version of the comic-book. Karl Urban looks great in the role and DREDD 3D looks shockingly violent with a grunge feel. Love the visuals and the use of slo-mo (which is also part of the plot).

Note that this trailer is red band so it's not safe for viewing at work. There are no plot spoilers in this thing, but definite visual spoilers - you WILL get a sense for what this movie will feel like. To me, I recommend watching this thing. Again and again. :-)

You can also enter a contest to win a trip to London to see an exclusive screening of the movie by going to the movie's official website.

Here's the official movie storyline:
The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called "Judges" who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge - a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of "Slo-Mo" experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan's inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound's control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film. Filmed in 3D with stunning slow motion photography sequences, the film returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip.

MUST WATCH: New Trailer For Karl Urban's DREDD!

The wait is finally over! Here's the first look at a trailer for Lionsgate's DREDD starring Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby.

First of all let me say that Judge Dredd looks like he's all business and ready to represent the comic book hero authentically. Personally I would have chosen a different design for his chest armor, but hey, perhaps there is a reason it looks like a PFD.

Other than that, I love the look and feel of the trailer. Gritty, some comic book influence in the colors and it seems like there is some great action. Oh and Lena Headey's makeup / special effects looks awesome!

Here's the official movie storyline:

SEE: First Poster For THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 3D

Ahhh. Halloween season is upon us! And while THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 3D is slated for a release until October 5, 2012, it's always good to heat things up a bit at the right time of year right?

Essentially Lionsgate is going to imagine that everything that has happened in the franchise after the original movie DIDN'T actually happen. They are picking up the pieces right after the first Tobe Hooper MASSACRE film as a direct sequel. This is a good thing.

John Luessenhop (TAKERS) directs. We'll tear into more news on TCM3D the next time their marketing buzzsaw smokes into action!

DREDD Update: Release Date Set And A New Pic Of Karl Urban As Judge Dredd!

Here's an official image of Karl Urban as Judge Dredd in the Lionsgate reboot of old Stallone SciFier. Though it is much clearer than previous looks at Karl as Dredd, it is extremely dark - and it must be by design. I actually like the November photo much better, though the resolution is off. If you want a closer look at the helmet itself (as Urban will NOT be taking it off for the movie), click here.

I have always loved the premise for Judge Dredd from day one, but Stallone's take on it was not up to par for me. Really hoping for something special here with Urban and his director Pete Travis (Vantage Point). The closer to the original comic, the better.

Here's the storyline:
DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.

DREDD is slated for release on September 21, 2012. For all of our DREDD coverage, click here.

WATCH: New TV Spot For CONAN THE BARBARIAN!

Be sure to watch this in HD - cause it looks wicked! Love the new shots we're seeing here from Lionsgate. More of the verbal interaction between Conan (Jason Momoa) and Khalar (Stephen Lang) which helps present a bit more of their characters.

The whole thing is looking much more epic with this glimpse!

New CONAN THE BARBARIAN Poster!

Looks like Jason Momoa goes up against a lot of nasties in CONAN THE BARBARIAN! I really hope they keep the warrior angle. We need a true representation of a warrior as its been a long time coming. This is Lionsgate's latest official poster for the movie - so enjoy!

Official storyline:

“I live. I love. I slay…I am content.”
- Conan The Barbarian

The most legendary Barbarian of all time is back this Summer. Having thrived and evolved for eight consecutive decades in the public imagination- in prose and graphics, on the big screen and small, in games and properties of all kinds- Conan’s exploits in the Hyborian Age now come alive like never before in a colossal 3D action-adventure film.

A quest that begins as a personal vendetta for the fierce Cimmerian warrior soon turns into an epic battle against hulking rivals, horrific monsters, and impossible odds, as Conan realizes he is the only hope of saving the great nations of Hyboria from an encroaching reign of supernatural evil.

Deftly adapted from the original works of Robert E. Howard and faithful to the mythology and psychology of his iconic character, CONAN THE BARBARIAN stars Jason Momoa, Rachel Nichols, Stephen Lang, Rose McGowan, Saïd Taghmaoui and Ron Perlman. The film is directed by Marcus Nispel, and written by Thomas Dean Donnelly & Joshua Oppenheimer and Sean Hood.

MUST WATCH: CONAN THE BARBARIAN First Trailer!

Yes! It's finally here. Jason Momoa stars as Conan in the Lionsgate fantasy action movie CONAN THE BARBARIAN. Momoa is pitted against (literally I suppose) Stephen Lang (AVATAR) who plays the double bladed, parallel scimitar wielding Khalar Zym.

Here's the movie's synopsis:
The most legendary Barbarian of all time is back this Summer. I like the trailer. Wasn't sure what to expect from the limited exposure we have been given thus far, but I have been impressed. Will they deliver a better product than the Schwarzenegger led effort did? Thus far, I think so.

John Luessenhop To Direct LEATHERFACE 3D?

Got some inside info from Bloody Disgusting that John Luessenhop (TAKERS) is in talks to direct LEATHERFACE 3D which will be a sequel to the Platinum Dunes remake of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Lionsgate would mostlikely distribute the Twisted Pictures production (Variety).

Apparently Adam Marcus, Debra Sullivan and Stephen Susco have written the sequel that picks up where the original TCM left off.

I think that Twisted Pictures can pull this one off.
They certainly have the background of making ridiculously low cost horror movies into major cash cows (i.e. the SAW franchise) and TCM certainly fits into whole bloody mess.

I hope this comes about. Should be interesting to watch it develop! In fact, Twisted Pictures should be interested in buying this site too as we have the word 'Saw' don't we? :-)

New CONAN THE BARBARIAN Teaser Trailer! Jason Momoa To Receive Rising Star Of The Year Award

I have to say that CONAN THE BARBARIAN is looking better and better all the time. Jason Momoa seems primed for stardom too and he will be receiving the CinemaCon Rising Star Of The Year award for 2011 at the Las Vegas conference in a couple of weeks. I'll be there too and hopefully get a word with him.

“It’s an incredible honor to be recognized in this way, and I’m happy that CinemaCon and the exhibition community are as excited as I am for the release of this film,” said Momoa of receiving the award.

“Jason is the definition of a rising star,” added President of Lionsgate’s Film Group Joe Drake. “He will absolutely be the next unstoppable male action hero, and we are so proud that it will be because of this film. We’re thrilled that CinemaCon has seen the same star qualities in Jason as we did.”
