Spoiler Alert!! Stick Your Head Into The New TERMINATOR: GENISYS Trailer

Definitely a major spoiler here, so if you want a pristine viewing experience in the theater it may be wise to not watch this new trailer for TERMINATOR: GENISYS. Seriously. I almost didn't watch it because I wanted to be surprised in the theater - especially as my friend Patrick Lussier co-wrote it. But hey, I took one for the team! ... And I loved what they've done :-)

There's definitely a huge twist and it is exposed here.

Here's the storyline for the movie:
When John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance, sends Sgt. Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and safeguard the future, an unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline. Now, Sgt. Reese finds himself in a new and unfamiliar version of the past, where he is faced with unlikely allies, including the Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), dangerous new enemies, and an unexpected new mission: To reset the future…

TERMINATOR: GENISYS opens on July 1.

TERMINATOR: GENISYS Gets IMAX 3D Release

Click to giganticize
We already knew about TERMINATOR: GENISYS being released in 3D, but now word has dropped that the movie will also see a release in IMAX 3D.

Here's the storyline for the movie:
The year is 2029. John Connor, leader of the resistance continues the war against the machines. At the Los Angeles offensive, John’s fears of the unknown future begin to emerge when TECOM spies reveal a new plot by SkyNet that will attack him from both fronts; past and future, and will ultimately change warfare forever.

You can rewatch the TERMINATOR: GENISYS trailer here.

TERMINATOR: GENISYS opens on July 1 in 3D, IMAX 3D and flat.

MUST WATCH: First Trailer For TERMINATOR: GENISYS !

Finally it's here! The first trailer for TERMINATOR: GENISYS starring an older Arnold Schwarzenegger seemingly doing battle with, well I'm not going to spoil the spoiler for you. But yes, a pretty cool element of the movie has been revealed in the trailer, so again I warn you if you want a pristine viewing experience in the theater, don't watch this trailer. Then again, HOW COULD YOU NOT?

My friend Patrick Lussier (DRIVE ANGRY, MY BLOODY VALENTINE) wrote TERMINATOR: GENISYS along with Laeta Kalogridis (SHUTTER ISLAND, BATTLE ANGEL) so you can expect a VERY well written movie here. Alan Taylor (THOR: THE DARK WORLD) is directing.

Here's the movie's unofficial storyline:
The year is 2029. John Connor, leader of the resistance continues the war against the machines. At the Los Angeles offensive, John’s fears of the unknown future begin to emerge when TECOM spies reveal a new plot by SkyNet that will attack him from both fronts; past and future, and will ultimately change warfare forever.

You will see similarities with the original James Cameron directed TERMINATOR and TERMINATOR 2. That is intentional and you will begin to see why in this trailer and if you like the BACK TO THE FUTURE franchise, then you should like this movie too it seems. The old parts have been recast with some great talent, namely: Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke and Jai Courtney.

Can't wait until July 1, 2015 for this thing to drop! "Your money... Give it too me now."

TERMINATOR 5 Will Be Rated R: Patrick Lussier And Laeta Kalogridis Writing

Exciting news for the TERMINATOR franchise! Patrick Lussier (DRIVE ANGRY, DRACULA 2000) and Laeta Kalogridis (BATTLE ANGEL, SHUTTER ISLAND) have been inked to write the fifth installment in the time travelling doomsday series.

Megan Ellison (daughter of billionaire Larry Ellison) owns the rights to the franchise (Annapurna Pictures) and she has the deep pockets to pull off practically anything she desires - which makes this announcement very exciting. Top that off with Schwarzenegger thinking on returning to the franchise in some fashion certainly gets the blood boiling. His age will be a factor obviously, but that wouldn't stop a performance capture contribution for example. I'm excited!

The one-two punch of Lussier's horror pedigree (and native 3D directing background) along with Kalogridis' love of cyborgs and connection with TERMINATOR creator James Cameron (BATTLE ANGEL, AVATAR) makes me VERY excited.

This is not the first project that this duo have teamed up for. Lussier and Kalogridis also were tapped by Skydance Productions (owned by David Ellison - Megan's brother) to write an original scifi adventure movie for them. No word on the status of this particular project as of yet. Makes me wonder if this was the same project all along... Hmmm.

There is every reason to think that this assembled team and financing will succeed. They have the talent, the required background and money to pull it off. I'm convinced TERMINATOR 5 will be a 3D production - I don't see why not with this assembled team.

I'll have more exciting news about Lussier and others soon in connection with my 3D month initiative! Stay tuned!!

**SAME DAY UPDATE: Patrick Lussier And Laeta Kalogridis Writing Sci-Fi Adventure For Skydance

**SAME DAY UPDATE: I just got in touch directly with Patrick and he says he is writing and not directing this one, so he cannot comment on whether or not this project will be 3D. This writing gig is totally hush hush for the time being so don't expect too much more to trickle out for some time. But, I'm on it. These two writers are at the top of their game so I can't wait for more official news! Nice work landing these guys Skydance...

I've got to let you guys in on a secret (not so secret now) Sci-Fi Adventure project
being written right now by a friend of mine, director Patrick Lussier (DRIVE ANGRY, MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D) and writer Laeta Kalogridis (SHUTTER ISLAND, AVATAR). Skydance Production has tapped them to write something ORIGINAL on an idea that has gesticulated for some time at the company.

Obviously the pair make a deliciously insidious duo as Lussier brings a horror / thriller and native 3D writing / directing background while Kalogridis has been involved in James Cameron projects like AVATAR and BATTLE ANGEL.

No word on whether or not Lussier will direct this project, but I am hopeful as that guarantees a nice hard edge and at least a serious look at a native 3D production.

This project could be anything really, but it's the writers and the production house that have me excited. Skydance also has projects like WORLD WAR Z, GI JOE: RETALIATION and STAR TREK 2 (a 3D conversion) in the hopper to name just a few.

More on this exciting development when I get it!

The Lowdown: What Did You Think Of DRIVE ANGRY?

Post your comments here! I am checking it out in a couple of hours... Should be a fun movie!

New Clip And Photo For DRIVE ANGRY 3D! *NSFW*

I think we are all going to enjoy Nic Cage in this movie guys! Check out the new photo and clip from DRIVE ANGRY 3D.

The photo has Amber Heard smiling at a cut up Cage.

My friend Patrick Lussier directs this thriller and I am anxiously awaiting its arrival in theaters. The Lussier / Todd Farmer creative team is one of the best in the business!

Here's the storyline:
In the newest 3D action-adventure from the director of MY BLOODY VALENTINE, DRIVE ANGRY stars Nicolas Cage as Milton, a hardened felon who has broken out of hell for one last chance at redemption. Intent on stopping a vicious cult who murdered his daughter, he has three days to stop them before they sacrifice her baby beneath a full moon. He’s joined by Piper (Amber Heard) – a young, sexy waitress who liberates her ex-boyfriend’s cherry-red muscle car in order to help Milton. Now, the two of them are hot on the trail of the deadly leader of the cult, Jonah King (Billy Burke), who believes it is his destiny to use the baby to unleash hell on earth. But the bloodthirsty cult is the least of Milton’s problems. The police are after him too. And worse, an enigmatic killer known only as “The Accountant” – who has been sent by the Devil to retrieve Milton and deliver him back to hell. With wicked cunning and hypnotic savagery, the Accountant will relentlessly pursue Milton at high speed across the country until his mission is accomplished. Fueled by high octane and pure rage, Milton must use his anger to go beyond all human limits to avenge his daughter’s murder, before his last chance at redemption is revoked.

The clip has a fully clothed Milton (Cage) having sex with a fully naked woman while simultaneously drinking whiskey, smoking a cigar and shooting bad guys! Perfectly reasonable. Cage says he "...never disrobes before a gunfight".

So what do you think? IMO this thing is going to look great and give us some solid entertainment. Stay tuned for more...

MUST SEE: New DRIVE ANGRY Poster! AND Trailer!!

**SAMEDAY UPDATE: Summit just released a brand spankin' new trailer for DRIVE ANGRY too - check it out below! :-)

Check out this new poster for Nicholas Cage's DRIVE ANGRY!
STYD got the exclusive on this one and it is certainly packs a punch. Love that Summit Entertainment is VERY clear that this film is a native 3D project and not converted. Audiences are actually now somewhat informed in that not all conversions are alike. Unfortunately, not all native 3D productions are alike either - BUT this is a Patrick Lussier movie. All is well.

Click on the image to enlarge. Hi-Res image is here.

DRIVE ANGRY stars Nicolas Cage, William Fichtner, Amber Heard, David Morse, Billy Burke and Tom Atkins.

So are you psyched for DRIVE ANGRY or what?
I know I am. I think this movie will deliver on its promises and I know that it is great hands with Lussier. All hell is about to break loose! :-)

More DRIVE ANGRY Photos!

Got some more photos of Patrick Lussier's DRIVE ANGRY for you as you prepare to get in your car to go see INCEPTION for the umpteenth time tonight!

First up is Amber Heard sitting in what I believe is the movie's soon to be famous Dodge Charger, then we have David Morse and Nicolas Cage prepping for some shotgun bloodworks and finally a look at Billy Burke clutching a handy bone club.

Producer Michael De Luca had this to say about the movie (Slight spoilers): "Nic (Cage) starts this movie off in this same kind of genre of ‘I'm mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. I can't trust anyone else to do this but me.' We're back in the age of the individualistic righteous hero. That [opening] scene is a great indicator of the kind of movie you're going to see. There's an insane car chase involving an RV, a Suburban, the Dodge Charger, police cars – it was a big clusterf*ck multi-vehicle car chase scene after a church gun fight that I think will be a showstopper and that's kind of in the middle of the movie. And then of course our ending, where Nic goes in for the final kill. Which actually shows his car performing the last example of heroics and just jumping over a prison wall and landing in the middle of this horrific scene where he has to rescue his granddaughter. I think those three bits will be the calling card for this movie in terms of ‘I haven't seen that before'. What's great is they all have an emotional undercurrent."

I have heard (via BloodyDisgusting - they had an awesome set visit) that this film is 40% driving cars and 60% on foot! Muscle car mania in a 3D hard R thriller. Sounds good! Will keep you updated when I get more...

New Photos And Art: DRIVE ANGRY!!

I have been pleasantly surprised by how DRIVE ANGRY is turning out! When I heard it was a supernatural thriller and that Nicolas Cage would be in it I knew something would be up, but to be honest I didn't think it would this enticing.

Click photos to enlarge.

It helps to have two great guys writing too. Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier have worked together before (MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D) and are capable of great things, especially in 3D.

First lets take a look at Nicolas Cage as Milton, who as we now know (read below) busts out of hell itself to try to save his grand daughter's life. Cage looks darn good for this role; I hope he knocks it out of the park.

Here is the DRIVE ANGRY storyline:

In the newest 3D action-adventure from the director of MY BLOODY VALENTINE, DRIVE ANGRY stars Nicolas Cage as Milton, a hardened felon who has broken out of hell for one last chance at redemption. Intent on stopping a vicious cult who murdered his daughter, he has three days to stop them before they sacrifice her baby beneath a full moon.

He's joined by Piper (Amber Heard) – a young, sexy waitress who liberates her ex-boyfriend's cherry-red muscle car in order to help Milton. Now, the two of them are hot on the trail of the deadly leader of the cult, Jonah King (Billy Burke), who believes it is his destiny to use the baby to unleash hell on earth.

But the bloodthirsty cult is the least of Milton's problems. The police are after him too. And worse, an enigmatic killer known only as "The Accountant" (2nd Photo) – who has been sent by the Devil to retrieve Milton and deliver him back to hell.

Finally, let's take a look at some concept art from Summit Entertainment for the movie. They certainly gives you a feeling of despair and desperation doesn't it?

I wonder if that is Milton's daughter or granddaughter under that tree?

DRIVE ANGRY is slated for a February 11, 2011 release and has some pretty nice spacing between other 3D movies at that time - THE GREEN HORNET launches January 14 and James Cameron's SANCTUM dives in on March 4. The number of 3D screens is not as much of an issue as it used to be, but it is good to see that spacing for this project as it should benefit all involved.

Looks like a classic bridge jump scene too and the cars look decidedly older don't they? Should be cool to hear the old big block, 4 barrel V-8s kicking in.

I discovered a shot of Patrick Lussier (Director) and Steve Danton (Assistant Director) on Todd Farmer's blog and noted that the bridge they are on could very well be the jump scene bridge from the concept art. Looks quite cold at that location too.

Next up for Lussier is HALLOWEEN III (again Todd Farmer is writing) with a October 31, 2011 release. Busy guys!! Farmer is also working on a project I am really looking forward to - my buddy Thomas Janes' DEVIL'S COMMANDOS. More on that one soon. I have got a great feeling about it.

If you will note in the last image of what seems like hell or hell on earth, there is a car entering the shot from above with headlights blazing! Looks to be aimed at that same tree too.

I hope the money is spent on the right special effects too - nobody needs to see a cheesy hell. Am I right? The images look good though. And I expect great things from the Lussier/Farmer team.

Good luck putting the final touches on this film guys!

Nicolas Cage Talks DRIVE ANGRY: Will Be Shot In Native 3D And Will Have Supernatural Aspects

Jim here. MTV caught up with Nicholas Cage at Wondercon and asked him some questions about his upcoming thriller DRIVE ANGRY (which they erroneously stated was due for release this year - it will actually be released February 11, 2011).

Says Cage: "What's really cool is that the 3-D is from scratch — all the cameras are 3-D. It's not going to be tacked onto the movie afterwards. Patrick [Lussier], the director, is very excited about it. It's the first one [like this]; it's like if you got to see an old '70s action movie, but in 3-D. We're doing something semi-historical, because it's the first 3-D movie shot [in the] style of a '70s action film. You could see Charles Bronson or Eastwood [starring in a film like this] in those days."

"DRIVE ANGRY is also another foray into the supernatural," Cage said of what attracted him to project, revealing a ghostly element of the story line that is being kept largely under wraps. "There's a supernatural element to it as well, which is keeping with what my interests are right now."

Great to hear it is native 3D
and I expected nothing less from my friend, director Patrick Lussier (MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D). I expect some cool edginess and some pretty graphic content!!

Cage is enjoying a wonderful resurgence. His awesome role in KICK ASS is not to be missed. I just wish he could maintain that momentum!

Here is the full interview:

Stay tuned for more as we get it!

DRIVE ANGRY 3D Casting Rumors!

Jim here. Got an update for you on Nicholas Cage's DRIVE ANGRY 3D thriller that Patrick Lussier is helming. BloodyDisgusting says that apparently William Fichtner (ARMAGEDDON) and Amber Heard (ZOMBIELAND) are in talks to join the production with Cage.

Shooting starts in March (Shreveport, LA) and Summit has slotted a February 11, 2011 release.

DRIVE ANGRY is about a man (Cage) driven by rage who is chasing the people who killed his daughter and kidnapped her baby. The vendetta/rescue spins out of control as the chase gets bloodier by the mile, leaving bodies strewn along the highway.

This movie intrigues me.
Cage is capable of awesome movies - and bad. Here is hoping for the best as one of the better character actors (Fichtner) in Hollywood may be joining the project.

DRIVE ANGRY: More Details On Nicolas Cage's 3D Thrill Ride

Jim here. Our good friend Steve over at Collider had a chance to sit down with DRIVE ANGRY producer Mike De Luca. The movie is a Nicholas Cage vehicle (pun intended) and is directed by MY BLOODY VALENTINE's Patrick Lussier.

What it boils down to is that DRIVE ANGRY will be an in-your-face 3D thrill ride in a very similar vein as MY BLOODY VALENTINE was (same writers too). So if you must use the term gimmicky (*shudder*), you can use it here - but just barely.

Here is what De Luca had to say about the movie: 'It’s hyper pulpy. It’s kind of like hyper-pulp, just kind of blood drenched, heavy, heavy car chase action that if you’re a fan of early Shane Black scripts. If you’re a fan of from the 70’s Two Lane Blacktop or Vanishing Point and you’re a fan of Dust ‘Til Dawn or Sin City, this kind of like glorious exhiltation of pulp movie-making. It aspires to be in that cannon, so that’s my torch way of describing why I’m excited by it because I like all those things. And Drive Angry to me had a blend of things I liked about Two Lane Blacktop and Duel and Vanishing Point and things I loved about Dust ’til Dawn and things I loved about Sin City. And where we’re not as opulent as some of those films, we’re trying to be of that spirit.'

And on the brand of 3D employed:
'Well, of course these are the writers and the same directors of My Bloody Valentine, so it’s designed to…we’re not the high minded 3D of James Cameron. We’re the low 5, very fun, in your face kind of exploitation 3D.'

I think we are in for a thrill ride with this sucker and I am looking forward to it! We need a no holds barred 3D release once in awhile and this fits the bill. Cage is capable of pulling off great movies so here's hoping this is one of them! Be sure to read the rest of his interview series
here.

Look for DRIVE ANGRY in S3D theaters February 11, 2011.

Patrick Lussier Talks "My Bloody Valentine 3D" Behind The Scenes

Jim here. ICG Magazine has a super interview with Patrick Lussier, director of MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D (MBV3D) in preparation for his keynote address at NAB 2009 in Las Vegas.

The whole interview demands to be read from top to bottom right here.

Here are some excerpts:

ICG: What were some of your early concerns about working in 3D?
Lussier: Just being able to speak the language of 3D movies. We were going to be almost 95 percent location, shooting in real-world environments and, in particular, underground in a mine with the 3D cameras. Some of the 3D companies we talked to were very concerned and said, ‘Our cameras are very delicate and you can’t really be doing that.’ Then we found Paradise [Paradise FX Corp, Van Nuys, Calif.)] and they said, ‘We can do anything you want.’

ICG: Tell me about the cameras you chose and your experience using them.
Lussier: We used a set of dual RED cameras as our primary rig. We also used the 2K Silicon Imaging cameras for our Steadicam rig. About 60 to 70 percent was shot on the REDs and 30 to 40 percent was shot on the SIs.

ICG: What was it like working with a stereographer?
Lussier: We were so lucky to have Max [Penner] who was great at explaining what he was doing and what he needed to do. The big thing was for him to see the rehearsal of the shots, especially any shots that moved, to see how the stereography needed to be adjusted to get the shot. Just like a focus puller needs to figure out where his focus marks are, the stereographer needs to figure out where his stereo marks are. In the beginning, it was a constant challenge to remember that everything had to be set for stereo, and it’s not as obvious as setting focus where you can tell that the thing that’s supposed to be in focus either is or isn’t. For stereo, it’s deciding the point you want, and the part of the frame you want, to be out as well as how far out you want it to be. For example, is it in the audience, is it behind the audience, how deep does it go? So, it’s much more subjective and has a much more artistic role than focus. Max has been involved in 3D for years and years, and has such a deep understanding of how stereo works and how it is best presented to an audience in terms of not becoming painful or a downright mistake. For example, making sure the intraoculars are done right or how to avoid miniaturization.

ICG: How does a stereographer impact the roles of, and relationships between, the director and the DP?
Lussier: It’s only an advantage. Brian and I worked together before, and our relationship was almost exactly the same during this movie. The stereographer is much more like the focus puller, but as it relates to the subtlety or ‘in-your-faceness’ of the 3D. I would frequently ride with the stereographer watching a shot to see where the 3D was going, and what things are being brought more or less into 3D. For example, if you have more light, you have more 3D, and Brian and I would discuss when we wanted to see more or less 3D. There would be that kind of creative debate between us as it related to the 3D. Max would throw out suggestions about how to enhance the 3D moments, and also offer suggestions about framing. For example, he’d let us know if someone or something that was too much on the edge of the frame so that during exhibition, one eye would see it and the other eye wouldn’t. Max and I would also have discussions about what’s going to proceed or follow a shot where I want to pull something way out into the audience, because those things can impact how far out you can ultimately pull, or whether you’ll have to immediately go into a dissolve.

ICG: Is this just one more market trend in 3D’s history, or is the format finally here to stay?
Lussier: I think 3D is remarkably seductive and a very intoxicating storytelling tool. I think it has all the potential to continually capture audiences and envelope them into the cinematic experience. … For example, there was a moment when we shot in the grocery store and you could see all the details of everything, and the shot in 2D seemed rather ordinary, but in 3D, it had a life unlike anything else. It was literally like we were eavesdropping. Having said that, I think the tell will be if enough venues convert to 3D so that you can have two or three 3D movies in release at the same time. Ultimately, it’s up to the exhibitors to drive this. If we hit that point, then yes, 3D has the potential to not just take off but take over. It could hold the same potential as when we went from black-and-white to color.

Love hearing BTS stories especially about those lovely REDs. Was surprised to hear other companies express concern over location shooting - should be no out-of-bounds in filmmaking if you ask me. Great interview ICG!

3D Everywhere - 2009 NAB Show

By Rochelle Winters - NAB Keynote and Supersession Programmer and Special Correspondent For MarketSaw

Stereoscopic 3-D will be everywhere at the 2009 NAB Show (April 18 – 23 in Las Vegas). Friday, April 10, is the last day to register for a free exhibits only pass (enter code HW01). PGA, VES and FIND members receive $ 100.00 off conference entrance fees (info on the org’s websites).

SUPERSESSIONS AND KEYNOTES - (www.nabshow.com/2009/education/supersessions.asp)

Monday afternoon, April 20, is a hot time with several premieres . Henry Selick will keynote about creating an optimal brew of traditional and new technologies (3-D of course), and speak about “Coraline” in this context. BSkyB’s 3-D honcho, Gerry O’Sullivan, will be unveiling lots of stereo 3-D footage from the network’s library – sports, serial programming, music—in his keynote about 3DTV. Sky just road tested its 3DTV solution last week, and is in an enviable position to push the go button (if it so desires) because it both creates and distributes its own content.

The afternoon ends with the 3-D alternative content supersession in which Globo TV’s Jose Dias will premiere the first footage from the Carnival 3D/Rio de Janeiro production (shot two months ago). He will do so as part of a panel discussion on alternative 3-D content that includes execs from the NBA, AEG Network Live, Cinedigm and Sky.

DIGITAL CINEMA SUMMIT - (www.nabshow.com/2009/education/digitalCinemaSummit.asp)

The Digital Cinema Summit (April 18, 19) is called 3D Cinema and Beyond: Lens to the Living Room and is all about 3-D mostly from the technical side. Highlights include a session on 3-D sports featuring Vince Pace (NBA games), Fox’s Jerry Steinberg (BCS Game), advances in 3-D cinema technology (Dolby, XpanD, Sony and Real D sharing the stage) and keynotes from Patrick Lussier (My Bloody Valentine) and Mark Zoradi (Disney)

CONTENT THEATER - (www.nabshow.com/2009/education/sessiondetail.asp?id=159772)

Pixar Case Study, focusing on the making of “Up” and “Toy Story 2” in 3D

SHOW FLOOR

There’s a 3-D pavilion with companies across the entire 3-D supply chain including 3ality, Nvidia, Philips and 3D@HomeConsortium. Exhibitors throughout the Show will also be showing their latest 3-D offerings.

This sounds like an awesome 3D lineup this year for NAB. Having just come from ShoWest, I can personally vouch for the overwhelming support 3D is attaining in the industry. 2009 is definitely the Year of 3D. Thank you Rochelle for this update and I look forward to hearing more from you as the show progresses!

"Condition Dead" To Be Shot In 3D? "My Bloody Valentine 3D" Sequel? It Is Being Discussed...

Jim here. Moviehole's Clint Morris recently interviewed Patrick Lussier (MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D - photo on left) and the topic of his next project came up, namely CONDITION DEAD. Here is Lussier talking about 3D:

"Condition Dead would be a perfect 3D movie... It's an aggressive gritty zombie movie with the tagline: When the Dead Rise... Leave it to the professionals.

The story centres on a team that polices 'outbreaks' of a certain kind all over the world. But this time, the outbreak proves to be different than expected.

It's a great script by Dave Davis and would be a blast to make and even more fun to watch.
"

And on a MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D sequel:

"Todd (Farmer) and I have a great concept for the continuing adventures of those who might survive. But we'll have to stay tuned and see if we're lucky enough to make that."

I think Lussier has got the chops to make this happen now. He did a bang up job on MBV3D and if you haven't seen it yet - get out and see it in 3D! It is well worth it and loads of fun. I am fairly sure you will see a sequel as well as more 3D projects from Lussier - hopefully CONDITION DEAD!

Review: "My Bloody Valentine 3D"

In a word - entertaining! If you haven't checked it out yet - or if your local 3D theater has been sold out the past couple of nights - try and try again. And yes, 3D is definitely the way to see this movie.

Right from the start I knew I was witnessing something special and innovative. With the rolling of the Lionsgate corporate intro complete with 3D gears and flying through their keyhole to view their logo - the anticipation was palpable. You could hear the packed in audience gasp at the vividness and immersion of the 3D - and the movie hadn't even started yet! By the way, that 3D logo was "dimensionalized" by In-Three.

I must say that the director Patrick Lussier used light to his advantage extremely well during the movie - from the very dark mine tunnels and miner's helmet lights (hard to pull off as 3D tends to be dim) to the interior and day lit exteriors, he instills a sense of actually being there that is a first for me in a feature film (U2 3D being a concert).

Some very innovative 3D techniques were used for the gory parts of the movie (that earned an R rating from the MPAA) and while I won't go into details as it would ruin it for you - suffice to say that you will definitely be entertained by them. In one particular murder, the audience actually becomes the victim momentarily and that sends your mind reeling in empathy. For more on the technology behind the 3D used here - check this out.

The ending is satisfying. More than not in horrors, things just don't end up right - well you can count on a great ending here with some twists that you may not have imagined.

Worth every dime folks. Get out and enjoy the first 3D movie of 2009, especially with your loved one - just as how they have marketed it. Perfect job, I might add. Marketers, take a bow. Should be some massive box office for all concerned.

"My Bloody Valentine 3D": New Set Pic

Jim here. Our friend Scott Weinberg of Fearnet has a great set report and a new exclusive set photo from MY BLOODY VALENTINE that I thought you should see. He also had a very interesting interview with director Patrick Lussier who had this to say:

"We just want to make a good, scary horror movie, and we think this 3-D process will allow those fans to enjoy something a little bit familiar AND a little bit unique. It's all about giving the ticket-buyers something they'll hopefully enjoy. We sure didn't HAVE to bother with the 3-D workload, but if the extra work makes the movie that much cooler..."

I have been hearing nothing but positive things about MBV3D and now it seems that the end result will be something special that all horror fans should be excited about. Can't wait. Be sure to check out Scott's full report on Fearnet.

That's Jensen Ackles in the photo btw. MBV3D is slated for release on January 16th, 2009.

"My Bloody Valentine 3-D" Coming on January 23rd, 2009 !

I can hear all the horror fanatics around the world rejoicing that their genre will not be left behind in the new 3D craze that is revolutionizing Hollywood and theater entertainment!

"My Bloody Valentine 3-D" has been announced via Lions Gate's publicity site for release on January 23, 2009. Patrick Lussier is apparently the director of the remake based on Zane Smith's script.

If you have been a reader of MarketSaw over the past year, you know that I simply love certain genre's in 3D. Sure, I believe that everything across the board can be not just be made, but made in a superior fashion than 2D ever was - but I especially believe that for horror, fantasy and sci-fi. Why? Because suspension of belief is so important in these films - 3D makes it easier for us to become immersed in the story and actually feel as though we are part of what is going on. That makes it a better experience. So bring 'em on horror franchise owners - all of 'em!
