It's contest day here at MarketSaw! This time we have a shiny new YOGI BEAR DVD to give away!!

YOGI BEAR will be available for purchase on March 22 in Blu-ray, Combo Pack and DVD. You can check out their official site right here.

Yogi Bear features everyone’s favorite talking bear Yogi (Dan Aykroyd) and his adorable sidekick Boo Boo (Justin Timberlake) as they raise havoc with their hair-brained schemes in Jellystone Park much to the chagrin of Ranger Smith (Tom Cavanagh). When Jellystone is threatened by a logging company Yogi teams up with a documentary filmmaker (Anna Farris) and must prove that he is indeed “Smarter than the average bear!”

In conjunction with the contest I have placed a new Yogi Bear widget on the left column for you to check out. Download the Adventure Guide! The Yogi Bear widget features a downloadable adventure guide with environmental activities for kids sponsored by The National Parks Conservation Association, Leave No Trace, and more!

Save the bears! The Sierra Club has partnered with Yogi Bear to present bear tips, facts, and information on how to help protect these wonderful creatures and help inform your audience!

I have one copy of the YOGI BEAR DVD to give away and the first person to correctly leave the answer in this thread's comments wins it. The answer lies in the trailer that is embedded in the widget: What does Boo Boo discover in their hand glider safety manual?

Be sure to include your email address in the comment info section so I can contact you. You will have 24 hours to reply to win the disc. Sorry the contest is open to readers from the US and Canada only. If you have won anything in the past 12 months from us, please do not enter.

New Posters And Wallpapers For The CG / Live Action YOGI BEAR

December 17 is rolling around fairly quickly and of course we all know about TRON: LEGACY opening on that date - but so is Warner Bros' YOGI BEAR! And it looks great for a family outing.

The Hanna-Barbera Productions live action / CG hybrid movie is the first movie for the company since Joseph Barbera (2006) and William Hanna (2001) died.

Warner Bros' Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner will host a pre-roll short prior to YOGI BEAR entitled RAPID RIDER.

Here is the storyline:
Jellystone Park has been losing business, so greedy Mayor Brown decides to shut it down and sell the land. That means families will no longer be able to experience the natural beauty of the outdoors — and, even worse, Yogi and Boo Boo will be tossed out of the only home they’ve ever known. Faced with his biggest challenge ever, Yogi must prove that he really is “smarter than the average bear” as he and Boo Boo join forces with their old nemesis Ranger Smith to find a way to save Jellystone Park from closing forever.

New YOGI BEAR Trailer!

Director Eric Brevig's (JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH) new family focused stereoscopic 3D live action / CG YOGI BEAR has a new trailer so if you have kids get ready to have plenty of requests to go it when the movie dives into theaters December 17.

Here's the storyline:
Everyone's favorite pic-a-nic basket-stealing bear comes to the big screen in "Yogi Bear." Jellystone Park has been losing business, so greedy Mayor Brown decides to shut it down and sell the land. That means families will no longer be able to experience the natural beauty of the outdoors — and, even worse, Yogi and Boo Boo will be tossed out of the only home they've ever known. Faced with his biggest challenge ever, Yogi must prove that he really is "smarter than the average bear" as he and Boo Boo join forces with their old nemesis Ranger Smith to find a way to save Jellystone Park from closing forever.

Obviously Warner Bros thinks that younger family members will be checking YOGI BEAR while older siblings and some parents see TRON: LEGACY which opens on the same day as YOGI BEAR - both in 3D. Probably a good guess. We'll see how well that works next month.

But for now, here is the new trailer for YOGI BEAR:

I loved Yogi Bear growing up so I will be taking my kids to see this movie! Should be a great time.

First Look: Warner Bros YOGI BEAR!!

Gotta love it! This movie looks to be done just the way I had imagined it and seems to be capturing the pure fun and enjoyment of the original TV animation.

Eric Brevig (JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH) is directing in NATIVE 3D. Next up for him will be the Korean War epic 17 DAYS OF WINTER.

Mark my words, this movie is going to do serious business. Of course kids are going to want to watch it, but it will also bring in all those baby boomers who grew up on the picnic basket pilfering bear.

Here's the storyline:
Jellystone Park has been losing business, so greedy Mayor Brown decides to shut it down and sell the land. That means families will no longer be able to experience the natural beauty of the outdoors — and, even worse, Yogi and Boo Boo will be tossed out of the only home they’ve ever known. Faced with his biggest challenge ever, Yogi must prove that he really is “smarter than the average bear” as he and Boo Boo join forces with their old nemesis Ranger Smith to find a way to save Jellystone Park from closing forever.

Voices by Dan Aykroyd, Justin Timberlake, Anna Faris, TJ Miller, Tom Cavanagh, and Andrew Daly.

YOGI BEAR hits theaters December 17!

Just pure fun. We need more of that! More when I get it...

Brendan Fraser Not Returning To The Center Of The Earth?

Brendan Fraser may not be making that trip after all. According to Deadline, Fraser is closer to leaving JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH 2 than returning, as the project will be going forward with a different director than Fraser would prefer. Eric Brevig (Fraser's choice) is still engaged with YOGI BEAR and is not available for the sequel and which has prompted New Line / Walden to set up Brad Peyton (CATS & DOGS: THE REVENGE OF KITTY GALORE; a conversion btw) for the director's chair. JOURNEY will be shot in native 3D, just like the original.

It doesn't matter who is at the helm for actor Josh Hutcherson (Fraser's nephew in the original) - he is returning for the sequel.

I see Fraser returning. Personally I think the two parties will meet somewhere in the middle and get him back in the driver's seat. Fraser has a HUGE worldwide following and is needed to ensure a successful second crack at the franchise. Just a hunch. What do you think?

MarketSaw Exclusive Confirmed: Brevig's 17 DAYS OF WINTER To Begin Shooting Mid 2011 In New Zealand

Jim here. We now have the title of Eric Brevig's upcoming Korean War epic: 17 DAYS OF WINTER. The story focuses on the 1950 Battle of Chosin Reservoir and Variety has confirmed MarketSaw's exclusive info that it will be shot on the South Island of New Zealand and will begin shooting mid 2011. South Korea will also see production and potentially S3D post production. Charlotte Huggins is producing.

From Variety: Story will follow the 1st Marine Division over the brutal 17-day battle of Chosin Reservoir, where United Nations forces including 12,000 U.S. Marines and soldiers were encircled by a vastly superior Chinese force. In a brutal battle fought amid rugged mountains and sub-zero temperatures, U.N. forces escaped to safety, though American forces suffered more than 6,000 casualties.

It looks like the final budget for the epic
could reach $100m.

(Brevig) isn't aiming for an effects-driven spectacle but that 3D is critical to the pic. "Telling a personal story against an epic background involves bringing the audience into the story with the characters," he said. "The ability to create amazing immersive images that have never been seen before is what makes 3D an exciting and appropriate tool for the story."

I love how this project is taking shape and the potential for this story is practically limitless. Here is a great example of a director coming out of seemingly nowhere (Brevig actually has outstanding visual effects credentials), grabbing the S3D head by the horns and creating an amazing career for himself.

I have sources close to the project and will update as news comes in! Stay tuned.

EXCLUSIVE: Eric Brevig's Korean War Movie Shooting In New Zealand 2011!

Jim here. Just got word from one of my TOP sources on the Eric Brevig S3D Korean War epic that he was rumored to be interested in making.

It is in fact going to be done. The shooting location will be the South Island of New Zealand starting in mid 2011 which would make it winter there. They need snow in order to match Korea at the time the movie is set.

My source is connected and will have updates for us soon. I will pass them on ASAP!

Eric Brevig Helming S3D Korean War Epic?

Jim here. Slashfilm has word via The Korea Times that Eric Brevig (JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH, YOGI BEAR) is setting his stereoscopic sights to the Korean War with a big budget 3D movie. Apparently the script is nearing completion and preproduction will commence soon thereafter. Actual shooting will start in November of next year.

Brevig was supposedly inspired by Kang Je-gyu’s Korean War blockbuster TAE GUK GI: BROTHERHOOD OF WAR. Anticipated release window? 2012.

The more quality live action 3D the better! I know someone who will most likely be involved with this project and I will ping him for more details if they are out there. Stay tuned!

Exclusive: YOGI BEAR Starts Principal Photography Next Week

Jim here. Got exclusive news for you from a great source: YOGI BEAR starts principal photography next week! I was surprised to hear that it is moving along so quickly, but of course their winter is summer to them. Eric Brevig is starting his 3D engines and shifting out of pre-production now. Live action and CG 3D! :-)

You can potentially see why they chose New Zealand for their location with scenery like Mount Taranaki.

I would say those THR rumors about Aykroyd, Faris and Timberlake are true. Stay tuned for more breaking news when I get it!!

Look for YOGI BEAR in a picnic basket near you on December 17, 2010!

YABBA DABBA DAN! Aykroyd, Faris and Timberlake Circling S3D Jellystone Project

Jim here. Looks like Dan Aykroyd, Anna Faris and Justin Timberlake all have something in common - YOGI BEAR. Nothing is confirmed yet, but that didn't stop THR from reporting it so it looks fairly solid. Eric Brevig (JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH) is directing as we posted back in February.

From THR: Faris will play a nature documentarian who follows the antics of a bear in fictional Jellystone Park. Aykroyd will voice Yogi, and Timberlake could end up lending his pipes for Yogi's constant companion, Boo Boo.

Jon Berg is overseeing for the studio, which hopes to get "Yogi" under way in New Zealand in December. Brad Copeland penned the current script with Joshua Sternin and Jeff Ventimilia writing the original draft.

Still appears to be a live action/CG hybrid project! Should be cool.

New Line Lining Up New "Journey 3D"

Jim here. Few movies say action / adventure like Brendan Frasier movies - and New Line is back asking for more. Who can argue with that? The man has THE MUMMY franchise and now JOURNEY 3D franchise which seems to be growing into a life of its own adapting literary classics.

THR is reporting that a second JOURNEY 3D is in the works after the studio saw that the original made $240 million worldwide plus performed extremely well with DVD sales.

Eric Brevig is returning to helm the adventure and also share in the writing credits.

From THR: "One challenge to mounting a second film was finding a story to tell, since "Journey" author Jules Verne wrote just the one book. One concept considered was setting the story in Atlantis, but with several Atlantis projects under development at other studios and underwater photography costly, it was nixed. The sequel's story line came together by chance when a spec script by Richard Outten, a writer whose last credited work was 1993-94 Fox TV series "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.," landed at Walden. Titled "Mysterious Travels," the adventure tale was based on the fantasy conceit that the literary tales "Gulliver's Travels," "Treasure Island" and Verne's own "Mysterious Island" all occurred on the same island."

Brendan Fraser and Josh Hutcherson are also being teed up for another launch into literary history.

I seriously thought that if there was a sequel, that Atlantis would be the focal point as it was hinted at during JOURNEY 3D. But you know - I love the idea of this franchise continuing on by using the classics as fodder for modern 3D. It is a way to mix the old with the new and rely upon proven master storytelling. Look for the second iteration to be wildly more successful than the first as movie goers worldwide become more familiar with the characters involved. I do hope there are no more crying scenes on beaches for Frasier though - it was the biggest downfall of the first go around.

Eric Brevig To Helm 3D Big Screen "Yogi Bear"

Jim here. We last saw Eric Brevig's work with JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH ($230m worldwide box office) - which I thought was very well done in 3D. Now comes word from Reuters that he is set to direct the Warner Bros. adaptation of old Hanna Barbera cartoon Yogi Bear entitled YOGI.

Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia are penning the screenplay of the much revered cartoon that many of us grew up on. They are setting out to recapture the magic of Yogi Bear, his pal Boo Boo and their adventures in Jellystone Park.

Word has it that Brevig will combine live action with CG to create an ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS type environment.

Personally I would like to see a pure stereoscopic 3D animation with this vehicle but hey, I could be off base I suppose! Can't wait for this one; lots of childhood memories.

Also I have word that RED is supposed to officially introduce us to their Scarlet 2K Pocket Pro at NAB! That is one product I am really looking forward to seeing. If you are aware of Red you know they make very affordable cameras - their Red One system is ~$16,000 and it is a 4K camera! I believe the Scarlet is going to be a 2K camera and priced in the $3,000 to 5,000 range but hey I could be wrong. Not likely, but hey :-)

Don't forget that the Red Ones can be arranged in 3D configuration! Bob Johnston, Executive Producer at Paradise FX tipped me off on that one...

If you want the full NAB 2008 schedule, I have posted it here. Thanks Rochelle for the updates!

Two Nights Of 3D Technology: Newly Restored "Hondo" Starring John Wayne In 3D

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) is presenting an interesting 3D technology discussion as well as a rare screening of John Wayne's 1953 3D movie "Hondo" based on Louis L'Amour's "The Gift of Cochise" on November 6th and 13th respectively.

Personally, I am very curious as to what Chris Condon has to say being the 3D industry pioneer that he is. The rapid changes that are taking place now are making my head spin - so it will be nice to see the viewpoint from someone who has seen it all.

Participants:

Chris Condon - 3D Consultant and Former StereoVision International President

Peter Anderson - 3D Director of Photography and Visual Effects Supervisor

Eric Brevig - Visual Effects Supervisor

Rob Hummel - AMPAS Science & Technology Council Member

Garrett Smith - VP Digital Mastering Operations @ Paramount
