Yes! Karl Urban's DREDD: "I Am The Law" Clip!

PERFECT! I wanted to see this part of the movie so badly I was afraid I shouldn't spoil it beforehand, but the clip is quite short so I personally don't feel as though I have betrayed anything by doing so.

Fair warning though - this is the trademarked phrase from Judge Dredd, "I am the law" and he is using it in the movie so if you want a pristine viewing experience, stop watching these things!

Continuing on, I am over the top with this movie - everything looks amazing and paying tribute to the original intent of the comic (that I can see thus far anyway). Can't wait!

Here's the movie's storyline:
The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One–a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge–a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

DREDD opens on September 21.

MUST WATCH: TV Spot #2 For Karl Urban's DREDD

Check out the latest from Lionsgate's DREDD starring Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey. Love where they're taking this movie and the slo-mo scenes look STUNNING.

We've got a few more quotable quotes from Urban in this one too - I won't give them away and spoil them for you! Watch it!

Here's the movie's storyline:
In a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.

DREDD opens on September 21.

Must See: New Posters For DREDD And CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: WORLD'S AWAY

Couple of new posters for you from promising and upcoming 3D movies - DREDD and CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: WORLD'S AWAY.

First up is the graffiti style poster for Karl Urban's DREDD. Reminiscent of how Sony tackled some of the viral marketing for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, Lionsgate is now leveraging the maneuver and I think for the most part it works. The symbolism is clearly targeted at Dredd's helmet and the 'X' design where his eyebrows would be underneath.

DREDD opens on September 21.

--

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: WORLD'S AWAY is a completely different genre movie altogether! While DREDD is a solid 'R' for a rating, WORLD'S AWAY will focus on a family experience. The poster offers a cinematic take on what will surely be sensory overload for the eyes.

The athletes of the Cirque are one of kind. This movie should also be one of a kind, and if you haven't seen the trailer yet, you can click over right here.

Produced by none other than James Cameron, we should be taken on quite a visionary journey to the world of Cirque du Soleil. Have you seen any of their work? If so, you can imagine what this will be like - all shot in native 3D using the equipment and expertise of the Cameron | Pace Group.

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: WORLD'S AWAY opens on December 21.

Must See: New DREDD Poster "Judgment Is Coming"

Loving the artistry for this poster! I get a flashback to MAD MAX when I see it, especially his body armor. The rooftop angle also reminds me of several super hero properties out there.

Here's the storyline for DREDD:

New Images From DREDD!!

We've got some more images for you from Karl Urban's upcoming DREDD. I am really liking the special effects makeup on Lena Headey - she definitely looks intense!

This could be the DREDD we've all been waiting for. Fingers crossed. So far, the word is good!

Here's the movie's storyline:
DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.

MUST WATCH: Karl Urban's DREDD 3D Red Band NSFW Trailer Drops From Comic-Con!!

WOW. I knew I was going to like this movie, but WOW. Makes you totally forget what happened to Stallone's version of the comic-book. Karl Urban looks great in the role and DREDD 3D looks shockingly violent with a grunge feel. Love the visuals and the use of slo-mo (which is also part of the plot).

Note that this trailer is red band so it's not safe for viewing at work. There are no plot spoilers in this thing, but definite visual spoilers - you WILL get a sense for what this movie will feel like. To me, I recommend watching this thing. Again and again. :-)

You can also enter a contest to win a trip to London to see an exclusive screening of the movie by going to the movie's official website.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan's inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound's control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

MUST WATCH: New Trailer For Karl Urban's DREDD!

The wait is finally over! Here's the first look at a trailer for Lionsgate's DREDD starring Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby.

First of all let me say that Judge Dredd looks like he's all business and ready to represent the comic book hero authentically. Personally I would have chosen a different design for his chest armor, but hey, perhaps there is a reason it looks like a PFD.

Other than that, I love the look and feel of the trailer. Gritty, some comic book influence in the colors and it seems like there is some great action. Oh and Lena Headey's makeup / special effects looks awesome!

Here's the official movie storyline:

Must See: First Poster And New Images For DREDD

Check out the new poster and new images for Karl Urban's DREDD!

I'm a fan of comic so I am glad to see the movie going in the right direction. We'll see if Karl Urban can pull off being a Judge or not, but I think he'll do just fine.

John Wagner, the creator of the Judge Dredd comic book had this to say about the movie after he saw it:
"I went up to London yesterday to see the completed Dredd film. I’ve had reservations about certain aspects of it, and made them plain to the team at DNA. All but one of them – a little quibble at the beginning – have been addressed. And what a lot they’ve added. Music is on the button. SFX are excellent. Filming is impressive. I’ve not seen a modern 3-D movie before but I like it. I found myself reaching out trying to touch things that were dancing before my eyes.

Karl is a great Dredd and Olivia gets Anderson completely. This is Dredd as it should be done – true to character, visceral, unrelentingly violent (but not off-puttingly so). It will open, I believe, sometime in September. No doubt you’ll let me know what you think when you’ve seen it, but this has my recommendation."

And in another interview Wagner said this:
"The plot is about Dredd and his world. It’s impossible to cover every aspect of the character and his city – perhaps that was one of the failings of the first film; they tried to do too much and ended up with not a lot. Dredd homes in on the essential job of judging – instant justice in a violent future city. I like the actors, they’re well cast and they handled their parts well. Olivia Thirlby (Juno) is perfect as Anderson, the young psi judge. She gives the character a touching vulnerability. Karl Urban will not remove his helmet and will not kiss his costar."

Must See: Four New DREDD Images!!

Finally we get some more action on the DREDD production and I like what I am seeing. This movie has tons of potential as did the original starring Sylvester Stallone that I thought was barely passable. Hoping for SO much more now and it looks like we will get something very enticing.

Here are four images featuring Karl Urban as Judge Dredd. Also starring is Olivia Thirlby, Langly Kirkwood and Deobia Oparei.

Here's the movie's storyline:

Check Out The New DREDD Photos!!

We have more DREDD shots to show you, this time showing off Karl Urban's frown, Olivia Thirlby in action and the suits of the Judges.

Is it just me or is that frown on Urban look quite forced? I don't know how I feel about that yet. I have to see his character is action first and Urban is definitely a fine action actor. We all know Dredd frowns a LOT from the comic books, but I have to say at this point I have mixed feelings about how it looks on Urban.

It would certainly be intimidating to have a guy walk up to you with the full power of the law to be judge, jury and executioner! Can Urban pull it off? In the end, I think so.

The suits look much more utilitarian and realistic than Stallone's over the top plastic looking tinsel. So kudos to Michael O'Connor (THE DUCHESS) who designed these new ones.

DREDD sentences us all on September 21, 2012! I really want this thing to work as I really enjoy the character a great deal. I have always been an Urban fan too. I want sequels. I want GOOD sequels.

DREDD Update: Release Date Set And A New Pic Of Karl Urban As Judge Dredd!

Here's an official image of Karl Urban as Judge Dredd in the Lionsgate reboot of old Stallone SciFier. Though it is much clearer than previous looks at Karl as Dredd, it is extremely dark - and it must be by design. I actually like the November photo much better, though the resolution is off. If you want a closer look at the helmet itself (as Urban will NOT be taking it off for the movie), click here.

I have always loved the premise for Judge Dredd from day one, but Stallone's take on it was not up to par for me. Really hoping for something special here with Urban and his director Pete Travis (Vantage Point). The closer to the original comic, the better.

Want To See Some DREDD Footage? Head Over To London's Kapow! Comic Con In April!!

Seems that director Pete Travis' DREDD will have some footage presented at London's Kapow! Comic Con that is running April 9 and 10, 2011. The movie's producer Andrew MacDonald (28 DAYS LATER, TRAINSPOTTING) will be addressing the crowd.

Says MacDonald: “It is fantastic to be involved with Kapow! and I’m really looking forward to talking to all the fans about our upcoming Dredd movie. I’ll be on the 2000AD panel with a little taster of what people can look forward to from our 2012 release”.

This is the first year for the San Diego Comic Con inspired show in the UK. Have a look:

DREDD, the Karl Urban vehicle based on the UK comic book JUDGE DREDD is in production right now in South Africa with the same team that made DISTRICT 9. Very excited about this project - we need a definitive movie made about this character! Check out all of MarketSaw's DREDD coverage right here.

FIRST LOOK: Karl Urban As JUDGE DREDD

Here's our first glimpse of Karl Urban as Judge Dredd in Reliance Big Entertainment's DREDD.

The photo has emerged on the Interwebs from this tweet from a comic book artist known as Jock. I am liking the treatment that the designers have given his costume and if they hold true to their promise of Urban not taking off the helmet then I am pretty much a happy blogger to this point.

Olivia Thirlby also stars in the very hard R rated comic book adaptation.

Do you think director Pete Travis (VANTAGE POINT) will be able to hold true to the original comic? I will say that by shooting the feature with the same DISTRICT 9 folks they are off on the right foot...

Quick Post: DREDD To Start Shooting This Month

Variety reports that DREDD (aka JUDGE DREDD reboot) will start shooting November 12 in South Africa. Karl Urban stars in the titular role and Pete Travis directs.

Lionsgate has picked up the US distribution rights for the $45 million futuristic thriller after the movie sold very well for foreign rights at TIFF.

Here's the storyline:
DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. I am hoping for the movie that this character SHOULD have! So far, so good.

Olivia Thirlby Joins JUDGE DREDD!

Some good news I think. Olivia Thirlby (JUNO, SOLITARY MAN) has signed on to play Cassandra Anderson in the futuristic comic book adaptation JUDGE DREDD. She will be joining the recently announced Karl Urban who plays the title role.

Cassandra is a rookie who shadows Dredd and who happens to be telepathic.

The movie will be shooting later this year in Johannesburg. More info on this project as I get it!

Karl Urban Is JUDGE DREDD!!

I kind of saw this one coming and I am great with it. I am a Karl Urban fan (especially after his portrayal of Bones in STAR TREK) and I think he can certainly pull this one off. Empire is reporting that Urban has indeed signed on to play the title role of JUDGE DREDD after they spoke with producers Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich.

For those uninitiated with the story (it is a UK comic that was lazily adapted by Stallone in the 1990's), it involves a futuristic world filled with violence, and the lead character is empowered to act as judge, jury and executioner. The premise is outstanding for the big screen... if done right.

From what I can tell, Macdonald and Reich are doing just that (emphasis is mine):

“The main thing about Dredd is that it’s a fantastic comic that was completely messed up 20 years ago," said Macdonald. "Our idea is to make a very hard, R-rated, gritty, realistic movie of Dredd in Megacity, so we’ve got to get the tone right. He’s not going to take off his helmet. His bike is going to feel real. He’s going to hit people and it’s going to feel real."

"There’s been a change in comic-book movies; they were treated unseriously and now they’re treated seriously. We’ve cast a guy called Karl Urban to play Dredd. We’ll be shooting in Johannesburg, it’s being directed by Pete Travis, we’re shooting with the people who did District 9 – and if we get it right, Alex has a couple of ideas for other stories as well. It’s not based on any one comic, and John Wagner is involved in every decision."

This movie IS going to happen. Macdonald has financing (~$50 million) from India-based Reliance Big Entertainment and IM Global. Pete Travis (VANTAGE POINT) is the director. Alex Garland (THE BEACH, 28 DAYS LATER) wrote the script. So get ready - this should be quite a spectacle!

Release is slated for 2012.

JUDGE DREDD 3D!!!

JUDGE DREDD is going 3D (via Deadline). This time without Sylvester Stallone I am betting :-) For those unaware, Judge Dredd is a UK comic character who is empowered to act as judge, jury and executioner.

Pete Travis (VANTAGE POINT) is directing the $50 million futuristic actioner written by Alex Garland (28 DAYS LATER) and financed by Reliance Big Entertainment and IM Global. Apparently it is sticking very close to the original comic intent and this should make quite a ride.

VANTAGE POINT was really well written in my opinion. The big pieces are already in place on this one - talent is next! Wonder who they will get to fill Judge Dredd's boots?
