Tolkien, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

Check out the new look for Bumblebee in Michael Bay's TRANSFORMERS 4. Looking pretty stylish! I wonder if Universal Studios will update the Tranformers Ride with the new version of Bumblebee. Probably not. (
Loved that ride by the way).
Love the concept Camaro's sleek new headlights and flares over the tires. Of course it's shot in Bumblebee yellow. What's interesting is that t
here is a customized version of the 1967 Camaro that will also be in the movie; so which year's model gets the most screen time?
I'm wondering...
These images are straight from Bay's website.
TRANSFORMERS 4 opens on June 27, 2014.

Tim here with a new image from THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG of the newly created elf character Tauriel (an elf warrior played by Evangeline Lilly of Lost fame) has been revealed by EW. "She's slightly reckless and totally ruthless and doesn't hesitate to kill," says Lilly. For a larger view of the image click on the image to the left.
As most of you are aware this is a character not originally in any of the writings of JRR Tolkien, and was invented by director Peter Jackson and his co-writers (Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens) in order to expand the world of the elves of Mirkwood Forest… and to bring some more female roles to the predominately male cast of THE HOBBIT. "Tauriel is the head of the Elven Guard," Lilly explains. "She's a Sylvan Elf, which means she's of a much lower order than the elves we all became acquainted with in The Lord of the Rings. She doesn't hold the same kind of status that Arwen or Galadriel or Elrond or Legolas do — she's much more lowly. She sort of goes against the social order of the elves a little bit."
Lilly went on to further explain to EW, "She will definitely have a love story," Lilly says. "I can't give away too much about it. It's not a huge focus but it is there and it is important and it does drive Tauriel and her story and her actions." So what is this romance she speaks of and who is it with? EW pressed about whether the romance would involve Orlando Bloom's Legolas, but Lilly wouldn't give them a definitive answer. She did offer this: "Tauriel's relationship with Legolas is significant. They've known each other since they were children, and Legolas' dad, [Elven king] Thranduil, has a soft spot for Tauriel and sees something very special in her. So if you grow up side by side, and your dad has a very special spot in his heart for this young woman who's a fantastic warrior, I think it's hard not to notice her." She laughs [EW reports]. "That's probably as much as I can say."
Lilly continued to add her expectations for Tolkien purists to hate her and the introduction of the new character: "I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that there are going to be people who will totally hate Tauriel, think that she shouldn't be in the movie, that it's a betrayal of Tolkien, and no matter what I do it won't be right. There will be everything between that and people who adore her and think it's such a fun thing to have added to the film. I kind of got prepped for that being on Lost, because we had avid fans who were really extreme in their feelings about the show and its characters. But I think if anyone knows how to respect Tolkien, it's Peter, Fran and Phil. And Tauriel fits perfectly in that world."
Come December 13th we can all make up our minds on the addition of the character of Tauriel.

Got some new images for you from upcoming 2013 3D movies, namely
MAN OF STEEL, OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL and DESPICABLE ME 2.
I have to say that I think Henry Cavill is an excellent choice of Clark Kent / Superman. I don't know if anyone will ever top Christopher Reeve as the man of steel because he kind of set the bar incredibly high to begin with.
But Cavill is certainly believable from everything I've seen thus far.
I think the imagery in Sam Raimi's OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL is indeed great and powerful - and I've noticed a few tricks up his sleeve during the trailers that I think will play out very well in 3D (the B&W to color transition and the extra depth space held in the temporary smaller visual screen size) so
I'm anxious to see if those creative touches light up the movie as I think they will.
DESPICABLE ME 2? Well what's not to like really. Love the characters. And those minions are the secret sauce of this franchise -
there's more proof in the image!
Out of the three depicted in this post, I'll go with MAN OF STEEL as my most anticipated. More thoughts on upcoming movies are on my short list! Stay tuned.
MAN OF STEEL flies into theaters June 14, OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL opens March 8 and DESPICABLE ME 2 is slated for July 3.

Check out these new official images that have been released for Tolkien Week (The 75th anniversary of THE HOBBIT's publication)!
It's a special time of year with the birthdays of Bilbo and Frodo happening on Wednesday - so much so that Peter Jackson has confirmed
Tim's suspicions that yes,
there will be a new trailer for THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY on Wednesday.
Here's the storyline for the movie:
THE HOBBIT follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.
Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever … Gollum.
Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

Check out the new poster and new images for Karl Urban's DREDD!
I'm a fan of comic so I am glad to see the movie going in the right direction. We'll see if Karl Urban can pull off being a Judge or not, but I think he'll do just fine.
John Wagner, the creator of the Judge Dredd comic book had this to say about the movie after he saw it:
"I went up to London yesterday to see the completed Dredd film. I’ve had reservations about certain aspects of it, and made them plain to the team at DNA. All but one of them – a little quibble at the beginning – have been addressed. And what a lot they’ve added. Music is on the button. SFX are excellent. Filming is impressive. I’ve not seen a modern 3-D movie before but I like it. I found myself reaching out trying to touch things that were dancing before my eyes.

Karl is a great Dredd and Olivia gets Anderson completely. This is Dredd as it should be done – true to character, visceral, unrelentingly violent (but not off-puttingly so). It will open, I believe, sometime in September. No doubt you’ll let me know what you think when you’ve seen it, but this has my recommendation."
And in another interview Wagner said this:
"The plot is about Dredd and his world. It’s impossible to cover every aspect of the character and his city – perhaps that was one of the failings of the first film; they tried to do too much and ended up with not a lot. Dredd homes in on the essential job of judging – instant justice in a violent future city. I like the actors, they’re well cast and they handled their parts well. Olivia Thirlby (Juno) is perfect as Anderson, the young psi judge. She gives the character a touching vulnerability. Karl Urban will not remove his helmet and will not kiss his costar."

Here's the storyline for the movie:
DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.

Oh yes - love the shot of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy swinging down to the street! What a shot. Too bad the EW watermark has to be everywhere on these things though.
Can't wait to see these visuals - the color usage alone has my interest piqued. Add on 3D and well,
we'll be in the comics themselves :-)
Here's the movie's storyline:
One of the world’s most popular characters is back on the big screen as a new chapter in the Spider-Man legacy is revealed in The Amazing Spider-Man. Focusing on an untold story that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story, the new film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, with Martin Sheen and Sally Field. WOW. Gorgeous as ever. I can't wait to be
transported back to Hobbiton and into yet another adventure starting in the gorgeous greenery of The Shire.
If you happen to be in New Zealand
you can now take a tour of all these spectacular sets through Rings Scenic Tours on the
North Island near Matamata.
Says THE HOBBIT director Peter Jackson: "We are really excited to be able to offer fans of the films the chance to walk around and explore this beautifully crafted set, which is a centerpiece of both The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit."
From Dailymail: Jackson first began the nine-month construction at the Alexander family farm on Buckland Road in 1999, thanks to the emerald rolling hills untouched by 20th century clutter such as roads, buildings, or power lines.
The initial construction involved planting Barberry hedges, trees, and gardens. 37 hobbit holes were created and The Mill and double arch bridge were built.
The large established tree placed in front of the lake was already perfect for the Hobbiton landscape, and it was renamed the 'party tree' since Hobbits are a merry folk who love nothing better than a good party.
J.R.R. Tolkien's first foray into Middle Earth has been split into two films, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again, and the cast and crew endured a mammoth 254-day shoot to recreate the thousand-plus pages.
Jackson said: "You just get in that state of tiredness and stay there, but that's OK. The movie keeps you going. We're working with much of the same crew as Lord of the Rings and obviously some of the actors like Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, and Andy Serkis are back so it's like a reunion. Plus we've got all the new boys."
Jackson revealed that Martin Freeman has slipped easily into the Hobbit feet of his predecessor, Ian Holm: "He fits the ears, and he's got some very nice feet. I think he's got the biggest Hobbit feet we've got so far."
THE HOBBIT(s) are being shot on 3ality Technica rigs.
We've got some new stills from Ridley Scott's PROMETHEUS on the occasion of 200,000 liking their Facebook page. Love the imagery in these! All shot on 3ality Technica rigs too.
Here's the movie's storyline:
Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
