iZ3D Expands 3D Monitor Rebates

Jim here. iZ3D has expanded their $50 rebate program to include not only AMD ATI Radeon Graphics Card customers, but also NVIDIA GeForce® graphics card customers as well.

From the press release:
“We’ve had great response to our $50 iZ3D monitor rebate from AMD customers and an equally strong chorus of requests for the same discount from nVidia customers that prefer to have the 3D technology inside the display instead of inside active glasses, “ states David Chechelashvili, VP Marketing for iZ3D, Inc. iZ3D’s approach to 3D places all the 3D technology in the monitor so that users need only wear passive polarized glasses. This enables more participants at a significantly lower price to enjoy 3D in ambient lit rooms without headaches, fatigue, or eyestrain.

The current rebate offer runs through June 15, 2009 making an iZ3D gaming display solution even more affordable for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or as a graduation present. Rebates can apply to purchases online at iZ3D.com or at any retail store or authorized iZ3D online reseller. Terms and conditions apply. iZ3D has also added new features to its website including a rebate center where visitors can check for current offers and discounts.

“We value our 3D customers and want to make their iZ3D experience as satisfying as possible. Since our website outage we have been improving our website while preparing totally new web experience based on customer feedback for release this summer. Our goal is for our website to provide a 3D experience where consumers can get immersed in 3D through education, experience, purchasing, support, and socialization. We are also diligently working to provide cutting-edge customer service,” said David Chechelashvili, VP Marketing for iZ3D Inc.

For more information on the monitor check out iZ3D's website.

Availability and Pricing
The iZ3D 22-inch monitor has a MSRP of $399.00 USD and is currently available in the U.S. at Fry’s Electronics, Micro Center, and Altex Computers and at NCIX stores in Canada. Online retailers include www.staples.com, www.newegg.com, www.amazon.com, www.pcmall.com, www.criticalbuy.com, www.iz3d.com, www.walmart.com, www.buy.com and other online etailers.

New Breakthrough Polarized Glasses From iZ3D?

iZ3D Inc., designer, developer and pioneer of advanced stereoscopic 3D visualization systems, has created new linear polarized glasses for use with the popular iZ3D stereoscopic 3D monitors. The glasses are currently in beta testing are designed for use with the upcoming iZ3D Version 2.0/ DirectX®10 Driver. The company will be showcasing the new glasses on a system running the Version 2.0 driver at the Game Developer Conference in San Francisco, CA March 23-27, 2009 in Booth 6020.

“Customer feedback is very important to iZ3D. We have been forging new ground for stereoscopic 3D displays and drivers for the wide variety of gamers, movie buffs and graphic artists that appreciate the 3D experience. Through this feedback we became concerned with a small percentage of people who saw two variations of color through our partially elliptical polarized glasses,” said Thomas Striegler, CEO iZ3D Inc. “We began to research other types of polarization and were impressed with the many advantages that linear polarization provided to the entire S-3D visual experience.”

The new polarized glasses consist of multiple optical layers instead of one polarized layer. This eliminates color differences some people experience from each eye. The multiple layers create a pure linear polarization that enhances the overall stereoscopic 3D visual experience for everyone. Because of the enhanced imagery, the glasses also provide easier user adjustments to the 3D environment to provide better into and out-of stereoscopic 3D screen effects and ultimately the enjoyment of longer game play.

Sounds like a great new advance with the iZ3D system! Can't wait to see it in action...

3D Shorts - "Thriller"; "Up" Opens Cannes; "Dragon" Team Working Hard; and iZ3D Compares 3D Formats

>>Update on Michael Jackson's THRILLER 3D movie:
Anschutz Corporation is financing the 3D movie version of the record breaking song and video for release after Jackson's upcoming 50 show concert tour. It is said to be based on roughly the same material as the upcoming Broadway musical of the same name.
- Sorry. Can't get excited about this project yet. Need to know it's gonna work and who is running the show.

>>Pixar's UP to open Cannes Film Festival:
Cannes organizers made the announcement today that UP will be the first animation and the first 3D movie to ever open the prestigious festival. "We are very proud," Thierry Fremaux of CFF told AFP, "to welcome Pixar studios, it's brilliant world, its talented directors and producers." UP is due in our theaters May 29th. Personally, I think it has a great chance at taking home the Palme d'Or for best film this year.
- This is indeed an honor. Congratulations to the UP team over at DWA!!

>>Dreamworks Animation are using TWO directors to get HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON done on time:
Dreamworks Animation is using both Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois as directors to get this movie done on a greatly accelerated schedule. Says a DWA staffer: "We know we're going to be working a lot of overtime on the picture, but nobody's uptight about it, everybody's happy to be working. The story's coming along, nobody is worried about that. We know the picture's going to get done. We've done it before, many times ..."
Further conjecture from the TAG blog: "Walking around, I saw more scenes of Shrek IV being worked on than Dragon, (Shrek in slapstick action with supporting players) yet the ogre lumbers into your local cinema a couple of months after Dragon. This could mean story is further along on Shrek than Dragon, or it might mean Shrek has more moving parts and needs a longer production schedule, or it might mean ... not much at all."
- We knew that they had two directors on for quite some time now (about a year - they also were writers) but this paints the scene a bit better. Obviously the Shrek franchise gets top attention over there as it is a guaranteed money maker. HTTYD is due in theaters March 26, 2010.

>>iZ3D to provide Game Developer Conference attendees a unique visual 3D comparison:
iZ3D is going full out to show typical users the difference between standard 2D, the famous red and cyan anaglyph 3D, and a state-of-the-art Stereoscopic 3D (S-3D) display. iZ3D will be providing this demonstration at the San Francisco conference March 23-27, 2009 in Booth 6020.
"3D visual technology has come a long way from the days of the red and blue anaglyph 3D effect that tricked your eyes into the illusion of depth through the use of color. 2D technology is the current norm and presents users a flat graphics experience that is great for word processing applications, but not for an immersive graphical experience such as gaming, " stated Tom Striegler, CEO of iZ3D Inc.
“The easiest way to explain the visual difference an iZ3D monitor provides is to play a game on a 2D monitor where you experience only a two dimensional game. On an iZ3D monitor, the graphics that were originally created in a 3D modeling program come to life, you duck items flying at you and experience movement such as flying or falling,” commented David Chechelashvili, iZ3D VP, Marketing.
-Awesome! If you are at the conference - definitely check this out and compare formats to see what everyone has been talking about...

iZ3D has some exciting news: The world’s first 3D monitor for gamers is now available in retail stores making this solution the hottest available! iZ3D Inc. is pleased to announce that it’s popular 22-inch 3D monitor display system has leapt off the screens of online e-tailers into the real world of brick and mortar retail stores. iZ3D’s gaming display products are now being offered nationwide in Fry’s Electronics Incorporated® and Micro Center® stores, specialty retail superstores renowned for merchandising innovative consumer electronics products and technology breakthroughs. In addition to the physical store locations, both retail chains are offering the iZ3D monitor through online store destinations, joining Staples Online, NewEgg, Amazon, Critical Buy, and other e-tailers.

“The move to retail is another milestone in our pursuit of bringing 3D to the home market,” stated Thomas Striegler, CEO of iZ3D Inc. “Seeing games displayed with our 3D monitor startles the imagination and shatters memories of bad 3D from 1950’s theatrical effects and headache prone shutter glasses,” he adds.

In the past year, iZ3D has had growing success selling its monitor exclusively online. Since consumers lack experience with this new technology, seeing it proves a critical part of the purchasing decision. iZ3D faces the same challenges as the television industry as it educated consumers to shift from black and white to color, or standard to high definition. “You have to see it to understand it the first time, and selling our 3D monitor though retail represents an inflection point for the emerging 3D industry,” said Striegler.

Store locations in California, Arizona, and Nevada began offering the product in mid-December. The monitor solution will be available at all store locations by January 9, 2009, after which iZ3D will begin sponsoring in-store try-and-buy demo days. Consumers can easily find a listing of store locations and get information on iZ3D’s products and special offers at www.3drulez.com. In recent month’s iZ3D has made headlines as it introduced the first 3D monitors with custom painted designs from Smooth Creations®, released its new industry-standard-setting 3D display driver, announced channel distribution partnerships with Ingram Micro and D&H Distributing Company, made 3D monitors significantly more affordable.

The iZ3D 22-inch monitor has a new manufacturers suggested resale price of $399.00.

In addition to the design and marketing of 3D LCD displays, the company enables 3D content creation, and promotes the accelerated proliferation of 3D for entertainment and professional applications. The rebate promotion is being promoted online and will be included in ATI Radeon graphics card packages and in-store at select retailers. For more information visit www.3drulez.com or www.iz3d.com.

“We appreciate the visual experience and excitement that is driving the trend towards 3D graphics,” said Godfrey Cheng, director of technical marketing, graphics products group, AMD. “3D gamers, designers and home theater enthusiasts will appreciate the sophistication that the ATI Radeon series of graphics cards will bring to the world of 3D. Our cards enable a feature-rich, 3D gaming and home theatre experience, especially when used in conjunction with an iZ3D 22-inch widescreen 3D display solution.”

“We’re on a mission to bring 3D into the mainstream. Combining the blazing fast speeds and breathtaking graphics from a high-end ATI Radeon graphics card with savings on your own personal iZ3D 22-inch widescreen monitor and get a gateway to the world of 3D. AMD’s selection of iZ3D’s stereoscopic 3D display solution demonstrates their vision and understanding that the future of graphics is a fusion of great hardware and software. iZ3D is a true pioneer in developing great 3D imaging drivers and hardware for the gaming community," remarked Thomas Striegler, CEO of iZ3D Inc.

Details: Minoru 3D webcam

The device itself is made to be cute, but functionally it's two eyes are approximately the same distance apart as our human eyes, allowing the capture of 3D images. The 3D webcam sells for about $80 to $100.

Meet Minoru, meaning “Reality” in Japanese, the worlds’ first 3D webcam. Connect Minoru to your PC and he will come alive, his eyes will light up and he will be looking at you in 3D.

Your friends and family can now see you in 3D over your favourite messaging program like MSN, Skype etc. You can also take 3D photos or even shoot 3D videos and upload to YouTube.

The downside to this tech is that it relies on anaglyph 3D so you will have to wear those ugly blue and red 3D glasses - although you do get five pairs in the box with this puppy. Man I wish this was modern 3D - I am getting so tired of this old school stuff. The point is though that it is easy to use, share and impress your friends.

The product simply rests on the top of your monitor and captures images with both eyes.

The Minoru was developed for the i-stage competition at the Consumer Electronics Association. Production is expected to ramp up in December and take the now prototype models into reality. You can also use it for 2D.

The iZ3D Solution
The iZ3D solution includes a widescreen monitor, viewing glasses, and software drivers. iZ3D developed this unique technology to create an adjustable viewing environment that delivers 3D without the eyestrain, spatial disorientation, or headaches commonly associated with other 3D approaches.

The 22-inch monitor, which is optimized for 3D viewing, can also be easily toggled into a 2D mode when required for productivity applications or email. In 3D mode, viewers see bright, sharp 3D images or video simply by installing the software driver and wearing any of eight iZ3D passive polarized glasses. New or existing PCs equipped with a dual-output video card easily power the display.

Specifications include:
- 1680 x 1050 resolution

- Up to 170-degree 3D viewing angle

- 5ms response time

- 700:1 contrast ratio

- 16.7-million colors

- 300 nits

Most PC games released in the last five years, including many of the most popular multiplayer online, first person shooter, and role-playing games, have already been designed for 3D displays. iZ3D’s optimized driver unlocks the third (depth) dimension of these 3D-ready games to allow gamers to finally play them as they were written – in 3D.

Monitor Solution Availability
The iZ3D 22-inch monitor is currently available at www.staples.com, www.criticalbuy.com, www.pcmall.com, www.amazon.com, www.newegg.com, www.iZ3D.com, and other online retailers.

3DFF Will Have 3D Film & Interactive Lounge: iZ3D To Provide Gaming Stations

iZ3D is a Sponsor of the World’s First Digital 3-D Film and Interactive Festival
Company will provide 3D Gaming Stations in “The 3-D Film & Interactive Lounge”

San Diego, Calif. (October 8, 2008) – iZ3D, LLC, designer, developer, and pioneer of advanced 3D visualization systems, is pleased to announce that it is among the notable 3D industry sponsors of the world’s first digital “3-D Film & Interactive Festival” (3DFF). The festivities will begin on October 10 – 12, 2008 in Orlando, Florida and will continue October 17 – 19 in Cocoa Beach via “The 3-D Film & Interactive Lounge.”The event is slated to be the first competitive, entirely digital 3D stereoscopic  film festival in the world. For more information visit www.3DFF.org.

“3DFF is pleased to have iZ3D and its popular 3D monitors as a sponsor. The key to driving new technologies forward is great content. By educating and honoring 3D content pioneers as well as innovative technologists and groundbreaking hardware companies, we will further the entire entertainment industry. We are hoping these events will also generate funds for our 3-D Film Preservation Fund dedicated to finding, conserving, restoring and ultimately digitizing historical 3D films,” commented The Dream Factory Studio’s Chief Creative Officer and Founder of 3DFF Christopher Crescitelli.

iZ3D will be featured during the 3DFF festivities in the Cocoa Beach Hilton Oceanfront for its three- day Space Coast Edition  from October 17 through October 19. The venue will feature “The 3-D Film & Interactive Lounge” where attendees will learn about advanced 3D displays and 3D video game presentations by leading 3D technology companies. The “3-D Film & Interactive Lounge” will also tour the film festival circuit as part of a 3D outreach program.

"As a pioneer in this industry, iZ3D is pleased to support events that educate content creators on the benefits of stereoscopic 3D imagery to help them tell a story. We feel 3DFF’s non-profit initiative to acknowledge up and coming independent 3D producers and directors, emerging gaming technologies and other new content creators will propel the entire 3D industry forward,” remarked Thomas Striegler, CEO of iZ3D, LLC.

iZ3D monitors feature significant advantages over other 3D display systems. Gamers that want to experience spectacular game graphics will appreciate playing in stereoscopic 3D. Graphic artists have embraced the iZ3D monitor as an essential tool for 3D design. It is difficult to create images in 3D while viewing the design on a flat 2D screen.  Movie buffs can now bring the thrill of a 3D movie to their home theater system.

The company developed this technology to create an adjustable 3D environment without eyestrain, spatial disorientation, or headaches. In 3D mode, viewers can see sharp 3D images and video by wearing iZ3D passive polarized glasses. Existing PCs equipped with a dual-output video card powers the display. Specifications include: 1680 x 1050 resolution; up to 170-degree 3D viewing angle; 5ms response time; 700:1 contrast ratio; and 16.7-million colors. The monitor is available at www.pcmall.com, http://www.amazon.com and www.iZ3D.com.

Big Screen 3D Gaming? You Bet. Check this out...

So what's new in 3D gaming lately? A lot. Recently at SIGGRAPH a rather historic event took place in that the very first video game (to their knowledge) has been shown on the big screen in 3D using the S-3D format. Present and responsible for the very successful demonstration was REALD, iZ3D, NVIDIA, Sony Imageworks, Epic Games and MTBS.

An audience of 800 saw not one but two games presented in 3D - Unreal Tournament 3 (live) and Bioshock (via clips). Read more about it here.

It is not just the PC gamers that are getting worked up into a frenzy about 3D gaming - apparently a leading console game developer said that console S-3D is close to being reality.

Looks like 3D gaming is about it hit big. It would be awesome to see the next generation of consoles from Microsoft and Sony (sure Nintendo too!) be offered in S-3D as well. Couldn't be better timing with lots of 3D movies coming down the pipe and needing a media player to present them! Anybody remember how Blu-ray won the war? A little something called the PS3 helped didn't it?
