Alright - Who's up for more MarketSaw?

Hey guys! I think I'm in a place now where I can spend some amount of time a day on the site and I'm anxious to get back to things that I love to do - like this.

I'm thinking that a new direction might be a good idea - something like "The future of cinema" or "What to look for in the coming years in Hollywood", or similar.

3D is still around obviously, but in a much different way after much evolution over the years.

Coronavirus has changed the world and that includes cinema. What things will be changing permanently? Let's discuss.

What about new technology? Have you seen the new Unreal Engine 5 that is around the corner? Check the review below:

What do you think? I think it looks bloody amazing. More TOMORROW!

3D Geek Alert: Stereo Future of Web Sites

MarketSaw 3D

*Please note that it’s best to view this in the most up to date version of your preferred web browser.

Hey all, Tim here with a theoretical and factual look at the future of web technologies. I’m a self-taught web designer, and just this year made my first leaps into using HTML5 and CSS3, among a few other things. What I’ve learned is that these improved web technologies pave way for a future on the web that is more dynamic on all devices and computers. The new enhancements of HTML5 and CSS3 integrate z-space controls for web designers that can lead to a stereoscopic world wide web.

First, lets looks at what HTML5 and CSS3 does. For those unfamiliar with HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) or CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), the simple definitions are as follows:

HTML: a language for describing web pages. CSS: defines how to display (the look and formatting) HTML elements written in markup language.

To read further about them check out the Wikipedia pages for HTML and/or CSS. HTML5 and CSS3 are enhancements on these standard web tools. As you can gather the 5 in HTML5 stands for the Fifth Revision of HTML, and the 3 in CSS3 stands for the Third Revision of CSS.

With HTML5 the need for Flash Video is no longer necessary, and video can be embedded seamlessly. This also means that mobile devices and computers both can display the video natively. HTML5 video can be customized with CSS3 to display controls designed specifically for that website, or to drop a reflection of that video below it. Major video sharing websites like Vimeo or YouTube now display their videos in HTML5 and allow users to embed those videos by providing the HTML5 code. YouTube is now able to provide stereoscopic videos with their Stereo HTML5 Video Player. Thus stereo 3D video is no problem on the web now. All that’s needed is a 3D capably display.

Then there’s CSS3. I’ve found several cool examples on how CSS3 has allowed web designers more control of their sites to style them in new visual ways. One really cool example is this site BeerCamp, where instead of scrolling visitors can travel forward and backward in z-space. That’s one example, and on this page we have another up above: the spinning MarketSaw and HTML5 logos (if they aren't working properly update your web browser). Being able to place web objects in z-space is integral to taking it forward towards being displayed stereoscopically.

Ray Zone’s official website can be viewed in stereo using anaglyph glasses because he made the background and the images anaglyph images. That’s a means for displaying a website in stereo before CSS3. Now however, all it will take is coding markup for the site to display the other eye images if it reads the display as being capable of displaying stereo 3D. It might be the next iteration of HTML & CSS, but it will be HTML and CSS that manages it. However, it's still a short distance off.

It will take some complex mathematical algorithms for the web page to look at a visitor's display and determine whether it's 3D capable. That complex algorithm is something web developers will need to hide as part of the browser, and leave it out of web designers hands. All web designer's are going to need is to provide images and web-based media in two files (left and right eye) so that the browser can display the second eye if it's a 3D-capable screen. The browser will need to be able to display only one eye in the event of a 2D display. Once this is possible, then we'll be seeing stereoscopic 3D websites pop up all over the world.

There's a future for the web in stereoscopic 3D! It may not be available tomorrow, but it will be coming soon. The web is about to get a whole lot bigger.

Our 1,000th Post! What The Future Holds For MarketSaw...

Hey guys, Jim here. Michael and I want to thank you for your readership over the past few years and wow, has MarketSaw ever grown. I can remember like it was yesterday thinking that, hey - now is the time that someone should be talking about 3D movies - yet no one was. Opportunity knocks, and not just any opportunity - one that I am passionate about.

So what about the future of MarketSaw? Would you like to know what is planned for the site? I wish I could be completely forthright with you and describe everything in detail but it is not in the best interest to do that. Another site could see that and use it. But there are a few things I can talk about:

3D Movies: We will always be home to 3D movies. You may continue to consider MarketSaw the number one site on the Internet for all things to do with sterescopic 3D films.

3D Gaming: We are ON THIS. Over the past few years we have reported on various new technologies emerging on the stereoscopic 3D gaming front and you can look for that to expand dramatically. Can't say how at this point, but it is happening as we speak.

Other 3D Technologies: Definitely. We will be expanding into all areas of stereo 3D applications to do with entertainment. Consider us your one stop stereo shop.

Site Expansion and Renovation: It is happening. I can't give an exact date yet but it is in the works and the results should meet with and exceed your expectations. It is an exciting time!!

The bottom line is this: We are extremely grateful for you all for your loyal viewing of MarketSaw over these past 1,000 posts and we are looking forward to the next 1,000 and 10,000. We get daily readers from many corners of the world from 3D fans to Hollywood power players. When I say power players, I mean the top. I know this because they tell us personally. It is a privilege to get to know them and learn from each other but it is also the same privilege we enjoy from our relationships with 3D fans. In other words, we value YOU. You are the motivation to keep writing everyday about what truly excites us; you are the insider sources that give us those nuggets of information; you are commenters on our post forums that passionately debate your opinions; you are stereoscopic 3D students, learning all you can about the future of Hollywood; and you are industry workers - creating those movie masterpieces with hands-on expertise. You are the world's 3D family.

And you are always welcome back home. MarketSaw will be there with you. Isn't that the way it should be? :-) THANK YOU.

Horrorween Set Visit!!!

Hey folks, Michael here. Yesterday I, along with MarketSaw contest winner Jacob Roland, had the amazing opportunity to have small parts in the upcoming 3-D horror/comedy Horrorween!

Jacob and I played agents investigating a strange house where something spooky may--or may not--have happened. The scenes we shot will be converted to 3-D in post.

Picture 1 (right to left): Director Joe Estevez, Jacob Roland, & Michael Stat discuss a scene.

Producer Ed Meyer (Adirondak International Pictures) explained a bit about his and director Joe Estevez' approach to the movie: First, they want to keep audiences on their toes--the film will be an hilarious comedy at one moment, then a frightening horror the next. Second, the film will be family friendly. Third, there is a lot of improvisation, adding much creative freedom to the project.

Along with Dead Body Guy Chuck Lamb in the lead role, Horrorween has a ton of awesome cameos including William Shatner, Jenna Jameson, George Clinton, Alice Cooper, Donald Trump, Dom DeLuise, Cindy Morgan and, as MarketSaw recently revealed, Nancy Spielberg as the wife of the lead.

Picture 2 (right to left): Director Joe Estevez, writer/assistant producer Jason Sanchez, Jacob Roland, & Michael Stat prepare for a take

From what I saw of our scene and heard from Meyer and Estevez, I cannot wait to see more from Horrorween. It's a really revolutionary project in regards to the unique production process, 3-D technology, as well as the viral way in which it is being marketed. The excitement surrounding this film is actually very organic in nature--movie buffs are already building an amazing buzz around this project based on what they have seen and heard, even though it is more than a year from release. I know I can't wait!

Picture 3: Jacob Roland (right) and me (left) on the set of Horrorween!

Heaps and heaps of Thanks to Ed Meyer, Joe Estevez, and the rest of the cast and crew for such a great shoot, and keep your eyes set to MarketSaw for interviews with the filmmakers and perhaps even some of the cast from Horrorween in the next few weeks!

Read more about the film at http://www.horrorween.com

Set photos by Hans Nilsson

Horrorween is scheduled for release in 3-D on October 30, 2009.

**Editor's note: Yes, I was going to be in the movie as well but I had personal issues come up at the last minute and had to cancel. Looks like Michael and Jacob stole the scenes anyway! - Jim
