The Final Destination Trailer Online!

Michael here.  This looks like so much fun.  And I love how at the end it says "2-D in select theaters."  Seems like the tides have turned!

Vince Pace and his team did the 3D work on this film (using the same Pace Fusion 3D camera system used on Avatar), so you will be getting the state of the art.

New THE FINAL DESTINATION Poster On The Interwebs

Jim here. There is a new THE FINAL DESTINATION (formally FINAL DESTINATION: DEATH TRIP) poster on the net (UGO). I like the tagline a fair bit: "Rest in pieces" and the imagery itself is definitely eye catching, but still I think something is missing from it.

The feeling I get from this poster is definitely a gimmicky 3D feel and seeing as though this is a 3D horror movie we can expect some of this taking place. Not too much I hope. I thought MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D did a good job of balancing it out despite the constant temptation to use it.

Very interested in seeing another live action horror in 3D - and my feeling is this could be the best one yet due to the proven franchise nature of the series. But if it isn't I will not hesitate to deep six it.

3D Shorts: FINAL DESTINATION Gets New Name; 50 YEARS Gets Distribution; HUMPTY DUMPTY Gets New Poster

Hey Jim here. Got some quick 3D news for you...

- FINAL DESTINATION: DEATH TRIP 3D is no longer. It has been renamed to THE FINAL DESTINATION - nothing too drastic, but better if you ask me. Almost sounds like a reboot attempt from scratch rather than as part of a franchise. (Source: Box Office Mojo)

Ok. Name change. Not sure about the timing, but I didn't really like the first one anyway...

- AROUND TH
E WORLD IN 50 YEARS has picked up distribution while at the Cannes Film Festival through Universal Music Group. Apparently the deal was consumated after a presentation of the movie which also included about 15 minutes of 3D. Moreover, it is not just for North American theatrical distribution but also DVD, TV, Non-theatrical and global soundtrack rights. (Source: Animation Magazine)

Love it when a plan comes together. Looks like UMG fell in love the project - can't wait to see it.

- Sony and Regal Cinemas have shaken hands on a 4K digital projector rollout to ~5,000 screens over the next 3 to 5 years. Of special note is that they have a grand total of ~6,700 screens right now, so digital will be making up about 75% of all their screens. This comes right on the heels of another massive 4K projector deal with AMC (4,700 screens) - making Sony 4K the industry leader right out of no where. That is if you can ever say that about Sony. 4K is the real deal guys. Congrats on the deals. And bring on 3D! :-)

Well if you had any doubt about Sony's entry in digital and 3D, you can drop them now. That is a rather resounding industry endorsement don't you think? I have seen the tech first hand (albeit a smallish screen) and it does look amazing.

- HUMPTY DUMPTY has revealed his box office teeth early - a new poster has the human/alien creature pulling a Jack Nicholson from behind a hole in a door. The movie is about an alien that wreaks havoc on humans after his mother is "abused by two rednecks in the Deep South". I think it has a great deal of potential... (Source: MySpace via ShockTilYouDrop)

Kinda disturbing character don't you think? And if the Executive Producer (Mark Ordesky) has anything to do with it, the FX are gonna be WILD.

Director David R. Ellis: Horror HUMPTY DUMPTY Going SciFi 3D

Jim here. According to Variety, David R. Ellis has been selected to direct HUMPTY DUMPTY, a science fiction horror movie based on the premise of an alien that wreaks havoc on humans after his mother was "abused by two rednecks in the Deep South".

Mark Ordesky (Exec Prod - LOTRs) is producing through his own Amber Entertainment company.

Look for shooting to commence in September.

Personally I think that this project holds a lot of promise if it is done correctly. I mean major box office bite. Why? Because it gives a fresh perspective on a common theme - the alien on earth thing has been done to death. But introduce some potential sympathy for the vigilante alien and BINGO :-) You have a PREDATOR meets ORCA. And of course any SciFi done in 3D in the right way is going to be spectacular. This has franchise written all over it too.

Ellis has an impressive background in stuntwork so I will expect to see many old school, non-CGI tricks up his sleeve for this action pic. And of course he is helming the 3D slasher FINAL DESTINATION: DEATH TRIP 3D due in theaters this August - I have heard plenty of good things about it too.

Ellis has a connection with Vince Pace too through FINAL DESTINATION so potentially he would be using the Pace / Cameron Fusion 3D rigs for HUMPTY DUMPTY. That would be awesome.

Ordesky brings a lot to the table with the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy under his belt, but keep in mind he was executive producer on those. This is a much more hands on dealio.

There does not seem to be any cracks in this project yet. We shall see who they land for talent and I will be following those developments closely. If you have any knowledge on HUMPTY DUMPTY let me know! (...and don't quote the nursery rhyme!) :-)

Set Footage From "Final Destination: Death Trip 3D"

Jim here. Just got wind of some spy set footage from FINAL DESTINATION: DEATH TRIP 3D and it is pretty cool. I love seeing behind the scenes clips!

Anyway in this video, they are shooting a sequence where a construction worker's scaffolding tips over leaving him dangling from a window ledge. Kinda cool how the clip ends with a shot of a coffee shop named "Death By Caffeine".

Also there is a nice shot of the camera system being used - The Pace Fusion System if I am not mistaken. It looks gorgeous!

There is nothing here to really spoil anything for anyone so don't worry about ruining your movie experience.

So have a look - there is an HD version too if you like...

The 3D Technology Behind "Tron2", "Step Up 3-D", "Final Destination 4" and "Avatar"

Jim here. There has been some recent media attention placed on the technology being used for TRON 2 and I just wanted to bring everyone up to speed as to what is fully being used for the stereoscopic 3D.

Peter at Slashfilm is quite correct in stating that they are using Sony Digital F-35 HD cameras. But here is some more detail on TRON2's 3D tech:

1. The F-35s are being also being used with Arri Master Primes. These lenses are SPECTACULAR for creative capture.
2. Principal photography on TRON2 is being done using the Pace FUSION 3D System.
3. I should have some exclusive shots of the 3D equipment shortly. STAY TUNED.

By the way, STEP UP 3-D is also using the Pace Fusion 3D camera system as is FINAL DESTINATION 4 and a little project called AVATAR.

For those new to MarketSaw, the Pace Fusion system was co-invented by Vince Pace and director James Cameron.

Clearly Pace is one of the leaders along with 3ality. Great to see quality equipment and services being used for these productions - it really gives me a good feeling when looking forward to the best 3D experience possible.

Final Destination: Death Trip 3D - Photos And Storyline

Jim here. There have been some cool new developments lately from New Line - A new movie name and two movie photos released for FINAL DESTINATION: DEATH TRIP 3D. Further they have given us a brief synopsis of what the horror movie has in store for us:

Synopsis: On what should have been a fun-filled day at the races, Nick O'Bannon has a horrific premonition in which a bizarre sequence of events causes multiple race cars to crash, sending flaming debris into the stands, brutally killing his friends and causing the upper deck of the stands to collapse on him. When he comes out of this grisly nightmare Nick panics, persuading his girlfriend, Lori, and their friends, Janet and Hunt, to leave...escaping seconds before Nick's frightening vision becomes a terrible reality. Thinking they've cheated death, the group has a new lease on life, but unfortunately for Nick and Lori, it is only the beginning. As his premonitions continue and the crash survivors begin to die one-by-one--in increasingly gruesome ways--Nick must figure out how to cheat death once and for all before he, too, reaches his final destination. The film marks the latest in the highly popular "Final Destination" series, and its first 3D installment, giving horror fans an especially visceral thrill ride.

I think 3D is going to inject a lot of energy and excitement into the FD franchise - it will open the door to many different ways of showing an audience what they are paying to see. In this case, that would be fatal accidents. Or what looks like accidents. Should be a ton of fun...

"Final Destination IV" 3D Superior To All Other 3D Horror Movies In The Pipes?

Craig Perry, producer of "Final Destination IV" has some choice words for the other 3D horror movies coming out soon in 3D, including "My Bloody Valentine":

"Final Destination 4 will mercilessly bitch slap the 3D “My Bloody Valentine” remake into submission. Listen, I feel like some of these other 3D films were just rushed into production. We have planned… seriously. We will own any other 3D horror film that tries to oppose us.

We really didn’t want to just throw a bunch of stupid shit at the audience, just as an excuse to do 3D. There isn’t a bunch of scenes where a yo-yo flies towards the screen or anything like that. We wanted to create a truly immersive 3D world, where you feel like you could actually step into it.

When I asked how (nudity) and gore would play into the 3D picture, he responded “Well, there is a 3D sex scene… nudity included. Also prepare to have a bunch of limbs and torso’s shot your way.

Is this a feature film first? 3D sex scene? You can add ten million dollars to the bottom line for every minute of nudity I am guessing. Hey that's just reality dude.

The opening sequence (which has already been divulged) sounds pretty darn intriguing:

Imagine what it’s like sitting in those chairs, watching these chunks of steel zip around the track like hellfire, and notice that there really isn’t that much separating the two of you… and furthermore, there isn’t any room to go if you wanted to get away.

For some spoilers revealed by the cast while being interviewed during this piece - be sure to check out Bloody Disgusting's full post here!

For more "Final Destination IV" MarketSaw coverage click here. These guys mean business. They are using the industry leading equipment from PACE and man, am I ever looking forward to seeing the results first hand (...as it goes flying past my head!).

Quick Post: "Final Destination 4" Set Details From New Orleans

Our friends over at Shock Till You Drop had the pleasure of visiting the "Final Destination 4" set in New Orleans recently and have written up a great piece about the experience. Here are some snippets (Warning - some spoilers):

For the fourth movie, there are two big set pieces rather than just one, the first one being the catalyst for all of the bloody kills that follow, a devastating car crash at a racetrack, while the second big set piece is a deadly explosion at a movie theater that was being shot at the makeshift soundstage while we were visiting. Apparently, there's a construction site behind this movie theater and something happens there that sets off a huge explosion that sends tools, nails and construction materials (cinderblocks and rebar) flying into the theater and invariably, into the poor trio of friends who thought that seeing a good movie might take their minds off of all the death and destruction they've witnessed.

Before we left for the day, we saw them shooting the movie screen explosion which is done in four different layers that will be compiled later: the first shows the audience watching the movie, then there's the actual explosion with fire blasting out of the screen, another where giant mortars covered in green material shoot debris from behind the screen and then a shot of stuntmen on rigs being thrown around by the impact of the explosion. We couldn't actually be anywhere near the soundstage when they did the actual explosion, but we sure as heck heard it while we were outside talking to Perry, and later, we watched as they shot off the mortar blasts of debris into the empty theater.
And about the Pace 3D Technology:
Perry, Ellis and cinematographer Glenn McPherson (Rambo) had a lot to tell us and show us about the process of filming in 3D using PACE Technologies' system, which involves special 2-camera rigs where the information from each can be recorded and processed to change the "convergence" between the two cameras, which essentially decides how much of the 3D effect is translated to the viewer. Outside the movie theater set, there was an impressive set-up of nine to ten monitors that showed data from each of the camera rigs, which could be translated by the technicians from PACE. They could also view what the scenes would look like rendered into 3D by bringing tapes out to the PACE trailer which was set-up with the appropriate rendering gear to show the film's dailies in 3D. What's cool is that the converge, or amount of depth, can then be altered in the computers, although it does often involve changing things when it comes to the editing.
Be sure to check out the entire post here. Very nice work guys!

A Look At Final Destination 4 - 3D: Cast Chairs

**UPDATE April 28th - The child actor in this photo is Preston Strother. Thanks Nick!

If someone knows who this child actor is, let me know. Here is a photo of what the cast chairs look like on Final Destination 4 3D - this was from the pool scene where, presumably, someone meets their demise in some gruesome fashion.

What is interesting to me is the double monitor setup in the background for viewing the takes - one for each eye? I know the Pace Fusion system they are using allows for real-time viewing of stereoscopic scenes, but perhaps they didn't license portion of the technology for FD4 3D?

Final Destination 4: 3D - Is There a Script Leak?

Ahhh, no. Not a script leak - perhaps a tiny squirt, but no leak.

Essentially there is nothing new here except that they may be formally calling the movie "Final Destination 4: 3D. I was not going to post at all about it, but enough other sites are getting all excited over it so I had to set the record straight.

We already know there is an opening scene at a race track and that a car flies into the grandstand killing and NOT killing (at least not right away lol) race fans. I guess another little squirt of info is that a total of 52 people died in the crash. We get a little bit about the characters and their names but honestly it is not much information at all.

In fact, casting calls will often have modified scripts for exactly this purpose - to make sure that the gist of the movie does not get out. That's where this extra info came from: Casting calls. (We had some videos of those calls but YouTube has removed them).

So feel free to check out IESB's info here. It is a fun read I guess, but I was hoping for much more.

From Under Bite To Over Kill: Williamson Cast In Final Destination 4

Mykelti Williamson has been cast in New Line's "Final Destination 4" which will be shot in 3D. Producer is Craig Perry.

His role is unknown at this point.
He is best known for his part in "Forrest Gump" where he played "Bubba" with a protruding lower lip and a particular appreciation for shrimp.

He joins a cast made up of
Shantel VanSanten, Bobby Campo, Hayley Webb, Nick Zano, Krista Allen and Andy Fiscella. It was interesting to see some of the casting auditions on YouTube.

If you are interested in hearing what the opening sequence will be like in the "innovative ways to die movie of all movies" check it out here.

Final Destination 4 has already begun shooting in New Orleans this month.

Final Destination 4: Finally Cast

The upcoming 3D splatter movie "Final Destination 4" has been cast. Much interest was generated in this process due to some of the auditions being posted online (you can view them here). The final cast members are: Shantel VanSanten, Bobby Campo, Hayley Webb, Nick Zano, Krista Allen and Andy Fiscella.

The movie starts shooting in New Orleans this month. As posted earlier, the plot centers on a race car crash that sends huge car parts into a watching grandstand full of people. The movie is being directed by David R. Ellis for release in 2009.

I am really looking forward to seeing this actually. The premise has been proven to work, and by throwing in 3D I expect to be thoroughly shocked with some of the ingenious ways for these characters to met their demise. Once in awhile you just have to let go don't ya??

Final Destination 4 Intro Scene Revealed...

Craig Perry, producer of "Final Destination 4" 3D has recently come out with the outline of what the intro scene to the movie will look like. The Final Destination franchise is staked out by their graphic and inventive movie introduction scene (ala James Bond, but way nastier) and this one seems to be no exception.

Perry said that there will be fragments and sections of a race car that plow through a grandstand packed with fans during a high speed racing accident. Imagine what they can do in 3D. And not just any 3D, but the James Cameron / Vince Pace 3D system. Awesome. Can't wait to see it.

Perry goes on to discuss how he will not be using 3D gimmicks as it gets old fast during a movie, but instead will use 3D creatively and artistically. That is music to my ears people.

"Final Destination 4" in 3D
is windowed for a 2009 release. Casting is currently underway for a March 2008 shoot in New Orleans.
