WOLVERINE Claws Back $21 Million Friday - Looking At $50M Plus For Weekend

THE WOLVERINE hit $21 million on Friday's day of business and that extrapolates to an approximate weekend frame north of $50m.

It's not the opening that everyone was hoping for as X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE managed to get $34.4m on its opening Friday. However, it is possible that the leaking of the 2009 origins movie a month early had something to do with the increased awareness. Some would say that it would have an opposite effect, but the fact remains that it's hard to compare the two because of that event alone.

The marketing has been stellar for THE WOLVERINE though and Fox should take a bow for that. Those white background, seemingly hand inked posters alone are like pieces of art.

I'll be checking it out Monday - at least that's the plan!

THE WOLVERINE is now playing.

New Trailer For THE WOLVERINE - Showcasing Viper!

We've got the new trailer for THE WOLVERINE and it features quite a few new scenes and Viper as well!

The movie is moving more and more into my ballpark with each release of their trailers and marketing materials. Love their posters. Truly looking forward to this 3D conversion now and hoping that they have done it right.

Here is the storyline for the movie:
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

THE WOLVERINE opens on July 26 in 3D.

Watch: New Trailer For THE WOLVERINE!

We've got the new trailer for Fox's THE WOLVERINE and now that I think about it, I'm really glad that Marvel was able to keep their logo and splash screen at the front of their licensed properties. In some way at least the Marvel universe is connected. Wouldn't it be amazing to have the X-men in the fold right now, helping the Avengers? Heck Spider-man WAS an Avenger (ok, a NEW Avenger). I digress.

Looks like THE WOLVERINE will have tons of martial arts (and Silver Samarai) which only makes sense given it's location.

Must Watch: Two New Trailers For THE WOLVERINE!

Here we go! Two new trailers for THE WOLVERINE, one international and one domestic. Both are worth watching.

Some answers are given to why we are seeing Wolverine travel to Japan and it looks like it didn't take long for him to get into action over there.

I'm actually quite disappointed that it seems that a really cool bar brawl was interrupted just before embarking on that trip. Oh well, that seen with the high speed train will make due, absolutely. But enough chatter - I don't want to talk too much about it before you see it!

I like how they are setting this up - clearly Logan has his work cut out for him if he can't heal!

Cool Trailer Teaser For THE WOLVERINE And Two New Posters!

James Mangold's THE WOLVERINE just released a cool new teaser via Twitter for his upcoming trailer which will be dropping on Wednesday.

It looks action packed as you would expect from a Marvel movie and it does whet the appetite for what's coming.

As far as the posters go, I think it'll be intriguing to see Wolverine in Japan - I haven't read the comics for the character so I will be walking in fresh. The last poster seems to me to be a flashback to the old martial art movie posters - what do you think?

New 3D Announcements: THE WOLVERINE, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES And PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS!! And More!

Wow - another landslide of 3D movie announcements, this time from Fox. THE WOLVERINE, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS all will be presented in 3D when they are released between 2013 to 2015 (dates below).

Needless to say I'm excited. We are finally seeing the X-Men move to 3D after all these years! And of course the modern reboot of THE PLANET OF THE APES should have been in 3D from the get-go.

Further, there is fairly good speculation that Bryan Singer's X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST will be shot in native 3D and at 48 frames per second - like Peter Jackson's THE HOBBIT movies and James Cameron's upcoming AVATAR sequels. Singer himself expressed his love of the format while hanging out with Jackson and Cameron at THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY's premiere (pictured at Phillipa Boyen's home).

If that isn't rumor fodder enough for you, then consider what Sir Ian McKellan teased recently on the matter:
"Whether we'll be filming X-MEN in 3D and 48 frames per second we'll have to wait and find out."

So yes, if it looks like HFR 3D, smells like HFR 3D and feels like HFR 3D - it probably is. Here's hoping!

Here are the release dates for the movies from Fox:

THE WOLVERINE – July 26, 2013
PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS – August 16, 2013
DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES – May 23, 2014
X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST – July 18, 2014
THE FANTASTIC FOUR – March 6, 2015

One has to assume that THE FANTASTIC FOUR will be released in 3D as well. After all it is a Marvel license too and with the success of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN in 3D  (with Sony) and THE AVENGERS massive hit earlier this year, it should be a no-brainer.
