Great news - I have been wanting to see that trailer that was released for UP in 3D for a little while now - can't wait to see what else is placed in front of BOLT this weekend.

**SAME DAY UPDATE #2: Box Office Mojo just released their Theater counts and guess who comes out on top? BOLT has 3,651 and TWILIGHT has 3,419. Don't mess with the mouse...

**SAME DAY UPDATE: Peter over at /Film has TWILIGHT collecting $64m+ with BOLT coming in at $40m - but I think a lot of people are forgetting the power of 3D. Look at what Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus voices Penny in Bolt) did with her concert last winter! Could be some heads shaking after all that turkey...

Hey guys - Jim here. You know, there has been a flood of viral word of mouth for Twilight and justifiably so based on the literary achievements of the best selling books. There is a certain female demographic that has pushed this movie to the edge with advanced ticket sales and "must see" status.

But I am thinking that it won't be enough. Sure, that is a strong demographic but so is Disney and it's traditional November family movies. Top that off with the 'tween factor of Miley Cyrus and what looks to be an outstanding work of animation from John Lasseter (the brains behind Pixar) and crew - look out.

This weekend will be very exciting to see who comes out on top! Of course I am vying for the 3D masterpiece to bring home the spoils and I am biased slightly - but I feel very comfortable in predicting that BOLT will shock a lot of TWILIGHT fans this weekend in relegating them to second place.

So how do you feel? Will BOLT light up TWILIGHT this weekend? Don't forget to vote in our poll on the left hand column!

Disney To Launch 3D Movies On Cruise Ships!

Jim here. Now this is a great idea, 3D on ships - and not only 3D but Disney is kicking it up a notch... Sure, they will have 3D movies screening on board, but they are adding a bit of magic kingdom - in theater effects like lasers, fog, streamers and lighting effects! Many people refer to this type of theater as 4D - Disney plans on showing 4D on only one day of any particular cruise, but regular 3D on remaining days.

But will the idea float? Will it hold water? Of course! Think Disney doesn't know it's stuff? :-)

Disney will launch the 3D theaters on November 21st (Ummm... BOLT anyone?) for the Disney Wonder and December 6th for the Disney Magic.

Wow! Two More Disney 3D Trailers For You: "Up" And A Second Trailer For "Bolt"

Jim here - wow a lot of action today with previews for upcoming 3D projects! This time around it is from Disney:

First is UP - a tale of an old man traveling via balloons in his HOUSE. "In this 'coming of old age' story, a seventy-something hero, alongside his clueless wilderness ranger sidekick, travels the globe, fighting beasts and villains, and eating dinner at 3:30 in the afternoon." A boy scout tags along... :-)

Second - have a look at the 'B' Trailer for BOLT: "An animated comedy adventure featuring a super-dog named Bolt (voice of John Travolta), whose days are filled with danger and intrigue—at least until the cameras stop rolling. When the star of a hit TV show is accidentally shipped from his Hollywood soundstage to New York City, he begins his biggest adventure yet—a cross-country journey through the real world to get back to his owner and co-star, Penny (voice of Miley Cyrus). It brings me a great deal of satisfaction to finally start to see these 3D projects come to light. Seriously, it has been a bit of a long haul to date and now the trailers are starting to roll in and I couldn't be happier. Kinda giddy even! Cheers and enjoy.

Some Bolt Scenes Exposed With Miley And Travolta Duet

Freshly debuted is the new Miley Cyrus / John Travolta music video for the song "I Thought I Lost You" and the scenes look interesting - I tell you what, Disney is hitting all the right notes here and could will have a mammoth, MAMMOTH opening. Not only are we talking the 'tween factor but the added 3D revenue effect and what looks like awesome graphics.

RhinoBall Anybody? Free Disney"Bolt" iPhone App Now Available

Jim here. Check out the free iPhone application at the iPhone App Store called RhinoBall - a promotional piece in advance of the November 21st wide release of their sure to be massive box office hit, BOLT.

The game features a very well thought out and delivered graphics, effects and music and integrates the iPhone's accelerometer stunningly well. Nice trailers are included too (TV as well as Theater).

AWESOME New Trailer For Disney's 3D Animation "Bolt"!

Hey guys - Jim here. Check out the brand new action sequence trailer called "The Chase" for Disney's upcoming 3D animation BOLT.

The effects look stunning - and I have said it before but someone is doing a masterful job with lighting effects on this movie! Nice sense of humor being injected too!

Bolt is due to hit theaters November 21st featuring the voices of John Travolta and Miley Cyrus.

This festival is the real deal folks. Heck they even landed James Cameron - can't help but wonder if we will finally see a glimpse of what he has in store for us with AVATAR during this festival... Could happen!

New Poster: Disney's 3D "Bolt" Coming In November

Wow. Is November sneaking up on us or what? Disney has just released a new poster for their upcoming November 21st bow of BOLT, voiced by John Travolta and Miley Cyrus.

And yeah, the glimpses I have seen of the movie are fully awesome. I expect a ton of laughs from this movie and ample, AMPLE box office gold for Disney. Oh, there shall be box office gold...

Disney's 3D Animation "Bolt": New Extended Trailer

Jim here. Here is the new extended trailer for Disney's BOLT, a 3D animation coming our way on November 21st. I've got to say - it looks pretty darn funny.

There are a couple of spots where they may have injected objects coming at you - but no more than any other comedy animation in my estimation. As the hamster is flying at the audience you get a sense that in 3D, it may be head ducking time - but I did NOT notice this during the first viewing of the 2D trailer - so it is subtle. You can watch this is 2D and it would seem like a normal movie. The scene where the gas canister launches itself out the door is much more off to the side than straight at the viewer however - there should not be a "ducking effect" associated with it while viewing in 3D.

I think the studios have gotten smart about 3D "duck" trickery and will use it sparingly even in animations and horror which begs to use it. But we shall see who has learned what soon won't we?

Aside from that comment, I see a well made Disney movie. Travolta's voice seems right at home and the animation quality is there. I like how it is shaping up!

Mark my words, this movie will be huge (opens THIS November 21st) and could have a nice extended run in 3D theaters until mid January 2009 when MY BLOODY VALENTINE scares up an audience. Yes, yet another voice-over 3D milestone will be hit, this time with Miley's tone. Milestone. Miley's tone. Hello? Is this thing on?

Harry Potter 6 Pushed To Summer 2009: Disney's 3D "Bolt" Moved Up!

Hey - Jim here guys. Looks like Harry Potter has gotten a little scare from the 3D industry! Warner Bros. has moved the wizardly movie from it's usual November position to next July 17th - a stunning move to be sure. WHY? So many questions to this move!

You know what I am thinking? I think Warner has gotten a little wary of the Disney muscle behind BOLT and the 3D juggernaut that it will morph into. They are counting on continued great box office week after week and BOLT will have no part of that! I suspect that they were thinking that BOLT would have bolted to the top of the heap no less that a week after Potter's release.

So Disney moved BOLT up to November 21st to take advantage of this surprising move. Sad to have to wait for the 3D elements in Harry Potter 6 but oh well - BOLT looks to be tracking huge!

Disney Releases Two More "Bolt" Images

Jim here. Disney has released a couple more BOLT images from their upcoming 3D animation movie slated for November 26th.

I think that the movie has wonderful use of daytime colors and I can't wait to see how Disney Digital 3D has handled the lighting for the pic.

Lighting is one of the more crucial elements in the production of a 3D movie as the light is essentially split between two eyes when projected in theaters.

John Travolta, Miley Cyrus (yes, she IS everywhere nowadays!) and Susie Essman lend their voices to the show.

Comic-Con 2008: Pixar's UP & Pete Docter on 3-D!

Hi everyone, Michael here with some words from UP director Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc.) at the Pixar / Disney panel regarding his plans for the stereoscopic aspects of the first ever 3-D Pixar film.

During the Q & A portion of the panel, I asked Docter the following:

Q:  "I was wondering, because it is the first Pixar movie that will be shown in stereoscopic 3-D, what your process is like in planning for a 3-D movie?"

A:   "I don't know. (crowd laughs) Yeah, we're still figuring it out ourselves. We have a whole team that's set up to operate specifically for the 3-D part of it. We're thinking it's pretty much just in terms of our normal storytelling: what's the best way to communicate this visually?

This team has done a lot of study in terms of what 3-D does, and how to maximize the effect of it and they are going to be advising us as we go along, so it's going to be a learning curve for everybody. We just got into it."

Check out Comingsoon.net for great in-depth descriptions of both the Bolt and UP panels and footage.  I thought both looked great: Bolt seems like it will be an extremely cute, funny movie (especially for pet owners), while UP is like Pixar doing Miyazaki.  Docter's answer to the 3-D question gives me a lot of confidence that Pixar is living up to their reputation as a studio that always puts the story first, and that will use all tools (including 3-D) to further that story.

Comic-Con 2008 Coverage Preview!

Michael here.  I'll be in San Diego covering Comic-Con for MarketSaw from Thursday through Sunday, updating as often as possible (let us hope the free wifi in the convention center stands up to the 140,000 attendees!)

There will be several 3D related panels this year, including UP and Bolt from Disney/Pixar on Saturday and the NASA-sponsored, Star Trek-actor-filled Quantum Quest on Thursday. And, of course, I'll be attending Warner Bros.' Terminator Salvation event on Saturday, where Avatar actor Sam Worthington might be on hand, and Thursday's Fox panel, where The Day the Earth Stood Still and Max Payne are the only films announced so far to have a presence at the panel...but, as any regular conventioneer knows, however, surprises are a dime a dozen at the Con.  Might there be an Avatar-related announcement at the Con?  If there is, the Fox panel is where it will most likely be!

First Look: Disney's 3D "Bolt" Animation Trailer

AWESOME new trailer for Disney's 3D animation "Bolt" coming to theaters this November 26th! The animation work in this thing looks staggeringly well done. Great job guys.

Don't forget to listen to the voice of Bolt - See if you can figure out who it is without looking it up on my Upcoming 3D Movies List - it's not Rocket Scientology... And no, not Tom Cruise! :-)

Look For A "Bolt" 3D Trailer Before "Wall E" This Summer!

According to the Pixar Projection page, Disney's stereoscopic 3D animation "Bolt" will have its trailer shown before this summer's sure to be blockbuster "Wall E" - another family film. The "Bolt" trailer will be 2 mins, 30 secs long.

Obviously no one in the audience will have 3D glasses on for the 2D "Wall E" movie so the "Bolt" 3D movie trailer will be in 2D, but still - I am looking forward to seeing this. There has been some negative discussion on how the animation looks and the casting of Travolta, but I beg to differ. I think the combo is going to surprise. Of course having Miley Cyrus in the credits won't hurt the movie for the 'tweens audience!

"Bolt" is slated for a November 26th, 2008 bow at 3D theaters everywhere!

Pixar will also air a 5 min, 14 sec animated short before Wall E as well.

About Wall E: After hundreds of lonely years doing what he (a robot) was built for, WALL•E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter•Earth-Class) discovers a new purpose in life when he meets a sleek search robot named EVE. Disney is leveraging the teen singing sensation fresh off of her 3D concert hit "Hannah Montana / Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds" tour movie. She will be starring as Penny, the human co-star on the TV series that Bolt (a dog played by John Travolta) also stars in before his cross country adventure.

Bolt is a 3D animation that is slated for release on November 26 of THIS year.

Wow. MarketSaw ran a poll asking readers what 3D movie release of 2008 is their most anticipated: This movie all of a sudden has jumped a few slots in popularity with the addition of that young lady. Cyrus' success the past two years is nothing short of a phenomenon.
