Jonas Brothers' 3D Concert Has A Theater Date: February 27th!

The Jonas Brothers' 3D concert movie now has a theater date according to Variety: February 27th, 2009. Although we have seen clips here and there, not too much is known about the concert except that it will most likely mimic the template set by Hannah Montana's Best Of Both Worlds 3D concert movie: Lots of fun onstage and back stage.

With that release date, Disney is being friendlier to the other 3D offerings next year as you will remember that Hannah Montana clobbered poor U2 3D at the box office when the 'tweens refused to stop going to see Miley and crew - so Bono's movie had no venues (but clearly was the better show). The Jonas' movie will fit in between CORALINE (Feb 6th) and MONSTERS VS. ALIENS (March 27th). Katzenberg is claiming that there will be ~3000 screens in place by then so the Jonas Bros could really clean up too!

Taylor Swift also stars in the movie - let me guess, she is next to have a 3D concert?

"Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour" To Air On TV July 26th - IN 3D!

The Disney Channel and Starz On Demand / HD will be offering the "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour" movie in 3D starting July 26th.

While the concert will indeed be shown in 3D, the big difference is that the TV versions will be shown in anaglyph format which means you will have to buy or make your own glasses for it. The Starz website actually shows you how you can create them if you so choose.

Soon we will have the technology in place so that we do not rely on anaglyph for 3D Home Videos. In fact I believe in that so much I bought the URL :-) Check out www.3DHomeVideos.com - takes you right back to your truly heh.

Looks like the Miley Cyrus train just keeps on motorin'. Look for the Jonas Bros 3D concert next in theaters! I may have some exciting news about this concert very soon - stay tuned!!

EXCLUSIVE: Disney Taps PACE And Fusion 3D To Shoot "Jonas Brothers Concert Tour""

Exclusive: Disney has selected PACE and their Fusion 3D technology to shoot the "Jonas Brothers Concert Tour" in stereoscopic 3D.

Disney was enthralled with the success of the Hannah Montana's Best of Both Worlds 3D concert movie. It was stunning just how quickly PACE was able to capture the movie, edit and present to the world such a great concert to Hannah Montana fans everywhere. And as you know, it was a box office smash - proving the viability of 3D and this technology once again.

The PACE fusion technology was developed by Vince Pace and James Cameron who have been longtime collaborators in technology and creativity.

Shooting for the 3D concert film will be in full swing in August.

Jonas Brothers' 3D Movie Confirmed

As I reported back on April 14th, The Jonas Brothers (the boy band that was featured in the 3D Hannah Montana - Miley Cyrus concert movie this year) have officially stated that they will be releasing a 3D concert film focusing on them for 2009 from their "Burning Up" concert tour.

Bruce Hendricks and Art Repola (who were responsible for the Hannah / Miley 3D film) will direct and produce the film respectfully once again.

From their press release:

"The Jonas Brothers' top-selling headline arena tour, the "Burning Up Tour", is scheduled to kick off in Toronto on July 4th, with special guest Demi Lovato ("Camp Rock"). The brothers also star in the upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie, "Camp Rock" (premiering on June 20th), and in the Disney Channel series, "J.O.N.A.S!," debuting this fall. Their self-titled debut album, released in August 2007, has gone on to achieve platinum status. The band's most recent hit single, "When You Look Me In The Eyes," debuted as the #1 most added at Top 40 radio."

Media Maven? Miley Cyrus Writing Memoirs At 15

Ahem. Writing memoirs is typically reserved for when you have enough memories to fill a book. Apparently Miley Cyrus and Disney have decided that she does in fact have enough. We all know that a corporation is going to strike hard and fast while a commodity is hot, but I don't know about completely swamping all media channels being very wise. Cyrus recently had a massive sold out concert tour and quickly followed that up with a hugely popular 3D movie about the same concert tour.

The book will focus on the relationship of Miley and her mother and how other families could learn from them.

Yeah, ok. But has her mother seen the recent photos of Miley on the Internets? (no I am not posting a link). What is with teens and Internet photos/videos today? Surely they realize that they are writing their own history books for everyone to read for an eternity! If they are not careful she will just become another Disney girl gone bad. So please do be careful. Oops, they did it again.

Disney's Jonah's Brothers To Create 3D Concert Movie

Disney is wringing every ounce of gold out of that Hannah Montana concert movie that did so well at the box office. As most 'tweens know she shared the stage with The Jonas Brothers and they held their own.

Well they are about to hold a whole lot more in the form of their own 3D concert movie. Disney Digital 3D will be shooting The Jonas Brothers' entire 38 city "Burning Up" North American tour (their 3rd CD). The tour starts July 4th and wraps up around Labor Day.

Disney is aiming for a January or early February 2009 release in 3D theaters. Well, I have news for Disney - those weeks are taken by "My Bloody Valentine" (January 23rd, 2009 release) and "Coraline" (February 6th, 2009). I certainly hope you are not pulling another "Its only playing for 2 weeks" ploy. Won't work this time around...

My source has said that Disney has acquired the JonasBrothers3D.com domain name as well. I also found this blog that backs up what my source is saying.

I am sure all you parents are jumping for joy right now! WOOHOO!! :-)

Miley Cyrus Starring In Disney's "Bolt 3D"

And the Miley Cyrus song keeps playing!

Disney is leveraging the teen singing sensation fresh off of her 3D concert hit "Hannah Montana / Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds" tour movie. She will be starring as Penny, the human co-star on the TV series that Bolt (a dog played by John Travolta) also stars in before his cross country adventure.

Bolt is a 3D animation that is slated for release on November 26 of THIS year.

Wow. MarketSaw ran a poll asking readers what 3D movie release of 2008 is their most anticipated: This movie all of a sudden has jumped a few slots in popularity with the addition of that young lady. Cyrus' success the past two years is nothing short of a phenomenon.

"Hannah Montana And Miley Cyrus: Best Of Both Worlds Concert Tour" Coming On Blu-ray in 3D!

**UPDATE April 5th - PREORDER the 3D HD Blu-ray concert movie at Amazon - Link is at the end of the post...

I saw this yesterday but wanted to research just how they are displaying the 3D info which I still have not had an answer I am completely happy with. Will update you ASAP.

Anyway, Disney is releasing the "Hannah Montana And Miley Cyrus: Best Of Both Worlds Concert Tour" movie on Blu-ray on August 19th. As we have already posted, Disney will be releasing the concert's CD/DVD version next week. Check the link for the contents of those discs.

Of course there are extras on the Blu-ray release and they include "The Ultimate Personal Tour" (Miley Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers getting ready for their concert - looks at their full day), and two extra songs ("Good And Broken", Miley Cyrus, and "SOS" (ABBA) by the Jonas Brothers.

The HUGE news though is that Disney is showing off their 3-D Viewing Mode for the first time! There is also a 2D mode for everyone without the 3D setup, but both modes are in stunning 1080p HD with PCM 7.1 Surround Sound.

Pricing is pegged at $35.98 and you can bet that this Blu-ray will be HIGH on 'tweens Christmas lists this year. Very high. Not to mention "Mom and Dad - we need the 3D HD set-up NOW!"

:-)

Look out - Here comes the future!!

Hannah Montana: Disney Continues To Use Limited Releases - And It's Working Bigtime

Well first Disney had their sold out "Best of Both Worlds" (BOBW) concert tour for Hannah Montana / Miley Cyrus that had kids shaking and parents shaking their heads. Then they released the BOBW concert in Digital 3D across the country to what was supposed to be only a one week engagement - limiting the exposure, but driving up awareness. They then extended the movie's run until it had run its course (I knew they were going to do that anyway).

The formula seems to work doesn't it? It sure does. Limit availability and drive up the frenzy of kids nation wide for Hannah and Miley.

Now, Disney is bringing out the BOBW CD PLUS DVD (package deal) for an exclusive period beginning March 11th ONLY at Wal-Mart, a full month before it is released widely to other retail stores. Wal-Mart is so huge it doesn't really matter that much anyway, but the point is it is limited again in scope (one chain and for a limited time). The price will be $13.88 (sounds very Wal-Martish doesn't it?) and you can even pre-order it here (of course - just like pre-ordering the movie tickets!).

By the way, Wal-Mart has committed to bring over 140 different Hannah Montana products to market - everything from footwear to you guessed it: Music. In fact beginning March 11th, fans can download her MP3's from Walmart.com - OH and free shipping on any online Hannah items to your local store. That's a nice promo and really a no lose for Wal-Mart.

{sarcasm} What's really important here is that this is all in time for Easter! Woohoo Parents!! :-) {/sarcasm}.

Here is what is on them for all you "Hannah hounds":

Disc 1: CONCERT CD TRACKS
HANNAH MONTANA

2. Life's What You Make It
3. Just Like You
4. Nobody's Perfect

"U2 3D" Solves Vertigo: Box Office Up 242% !

Finally, Hannah Montana is starting to subside for all you U2 fans out there. While "U2 3D" is now listed as showing in 686 3D theaters, it's per screen revenue is going to be lower than previous weeks because it is still SHARING most of these screens with Hannah Montana which dropped slightly to 613 3D screens on Friday.

So you should see declining box office for Hannah Montana right away due to audience drop off AND fewer showings - and the exact opposite for U2 3D.

In fact U2 3D is up 242%. Check it out! You will NOT be disappointed. Awesome experience.

Real D Brings "U2 3D" Home To Dublin

RealD announced yesterday that they had brought the 3D concert movie "U2 3D" home to Dublin; the band originated from that wonderful Irish city. The movie made its European premiere at Parnell Street's Cineworld on the 20th as part of the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival. Echoing the Sundance premiere, the band showed up in their RealD 3D glasses, customized this time though - as they were designed by Bono - and all the fans who attended also landed these! If there is anyone in the world who knows cool shades - its Bono.

With the Hannah Montana craze dying down now from a frenzy to mere chaos, "U2 3D" should be in wide release very shortly. Some Real D engagements have already started in North America after its January limited run. If you have not seen "U2 3D" yet, seriously consider it. You can check out more details about the movie as an event from my Facebook group: 3D Movies and Technology. Thanks Gina for bringing this to my attention!

U23D Delayed In Some Markets: Hannah Montana To Blame?

The wide release of U23D has been delayed in some markets from February 15th to the 22nd while at the same time Disney extended Hannah Montana's "Best Of Both Worlds" concert movie by at least a week and giving an option for theater chains to keep it even longer if the demand exists.

There are only so many 3D enabled theaters that have been converted (between 800 and 900 currently) so a lot of negotiations must take place for what films get that capacity - demand counts. With the reviews U23D has been getting, the response should be overwhelming - just like Montana's was.

Let's hope everyone gets their fair allotment of time in the 3D theaters. I'm sure they will - interesting to watch!

...And They Just Keep Comin'! New 3D Animation "Boat" To Sail in 2010

Variety reports that Gaumont (European Film Company) will produce "Boat" in animated 3D for a pegged release window in 2010. Budget is set at $35 million. Hannah Montana helped them make the decision after her 3D "Best of Both Worlds" concert film started breaking box office records.

The movie is already a year into production and centers on a cheetah and a porcupine who must change their identities to gain entry to Noah's Ark when they discover that their animal breeds were already represented on board. They decide to create a fake species called "porceetahs". Already sounds hilarious! Added to 3D Movie List...

Hannah Montana's Hair... Errr, Concert Movie Extended!

**Update Feb 10th: BOBW now stands at $53 million + as of today! U23D wide release coming up February 15th - be sure to see it if you haven't already with the limited IMAX release.

**Update Feb 5th:
Disney now reports that BOBW made $31.1 million on its first weekend and not $29m as originally estimated! That makes for a jaw dropping $45,561 per screen - and hey folks, it ain't over yet. Remember most of the first week has been sold out in advance - look for continued superlative results from this wonderful 3D movie.

**Update Feb 4th:
Disney will be ending the extension of "Best of Both Worlds" by February 15th, which is the wide release date of the critically acclaimed 3D concert U23D which is in limited release now in select IMAX theaters.**

Yep - just as I thought; Disney has decided to extend the Hannah Montana / Miley Cyrus "Best of Both Worlds" (TBOBW) 3D concert movie until it has run its course. Of course it was a publicity gimmick. Of course it worked. Her concert movie is number one at the box office. Easily.

Quote from Disney: “Audience reaction for the Disney Digital 3-D presentation of ‘Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert’ has been so overwhelming that we’ve decided to extend the film’s theatrical run … The extra playing time will give more fans a chance to see their favorite performer in an exciting new way that brings the concert experience to life on the big screen. It will also accommodate those fans who want to come and enjoy the experience again. Miley is clearly one of today’s most exciting, talented and charismatic performers, and we’re delighted that her fans are having such a great time with this entertaining and innovative 3-D adventure.”

TBOBW is playing in only 683 theatres (we estimated close to 700 theaters last year for this release), "Hannah Montana" has broken two records: Firstly, it has debuted in the top box office spot with the fewest ever theaters and secondly, it has raked in $29 million (estimated) more than any other movie on a Super Bowl Weekend.

The movie averaged an absolutely AMAZING $42,460 a screen, compared with an average of $5,337 in 2,436 theaters for "The Eye" and $2,327 in 1,977 theatres for "Over Her Dead Body." THAT my friends is theater productivity. Ticket prices have been averaging about $15. Do you see the potential for "Avatar" which will have demographic appeal right across the board and have 4 or 5 times the number of theaters available for screening? Titanic is really going to be sunk. By Captain Cameron no less. Can't wait for that eventuality...

I have not seen this one yet, but I will catch it soon. I don't want to take some little girls coveted seat during the first weekend! More soon.

Real D Reels In $20m In Additional Funding

Real D has secured an additional $20 million from private equity funding that caps off a $50m boost back in March 2007 from Shamrock. Real D currently has over 1000 3D theater systems installed with a heavy focus on 4000 by May 2009.

The timing couldn't be better! 3D is growing exponentially - just watch investors drool after Hannah Montana's week long 3D engagement swamps the per-theater revenue stats.

Sorry for lack of posts: Been sick last few days...

Needless to say lots of excitement in the 3D world with the Hannah Montana show rolling into town with yet another round of sold out venues - this time movie theaters and of course the rousing critical acclaim of U23D.

Topping all this off is the growing story about the director(s) of the Hobbit(s) and whether or not Peter Jackson and New Line finally announce their intention to produce these movies in 3D.

Yes, lots to write about, yet I have been extremely sick with the flu since Monday night! Sorry for the delay in posts but I will endeavor to get back in the drivers seat here ASAP.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone!

Am I Seeing Double? Hannah Montana 3D Movie Seats Now Selling Out...

Remember when Hannah Montana's concert tour had sold out venues and tickets were going for outrageous sums of money? Am I seeing double here?

Be prepared for the same thing happening if Disney doesn't increase the number of days available for screening the movie "Hannah Montana / Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour" from one week to two (at least). On the heels of another excellent 3D show, U23D - demand is skyrocketing and there are reports of some theaters already having sold out their weekend performances.

This seems to be unprecedented - Hannah Montana / Miley Cyrus is quite the phenomenon! For example, AMC Hampton Towne Centre 24 in Hampton and at AMC Lynnhaven 18 in Virginia Beach, have both already sold out some of their weekend slots.

So buy your tickets pronto or you could be wishing you did soon. Hundreds of shows are already sold out. You can purchase them here. Only 3 and a half days away!

New Video Taken from Hannah Montana's "Best Of Both Worlds" 3D Concert Movie

I have to say that the imagery looks darn good for a younger crowd vehicle. The 3D concert movie plays for 1 week only from February 1st to 7th. Take a 2D look:
