Paul W.S. Anderson's POMPEII latest TV spot and clips treats us to some new shots from the movie which looks very promising. I expect a thrilling ride through the faithfully reproduced Italian city and era. Think THE THREE MUSKETEERS (Anderson's adventure set in France) meets TITANIC - cause we all know what happens when you live beside a massive erupting volcano. The effects look EXCELLENT. Yeah, it's a romance too.
Kit Harington, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kiefer Sutherland and Carrie-Anne Moss star.
Here's the storyline for the movie: The film follows an enslaved Celtic gladiator (Milo) who falls in love with a noblewoman on the eve of a massive volcanic eruption that destroys Pompeii, an event that also brings him face-to-face with the man who slaughtered his family years earlier.
We've got the new trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson's POMPEII starring Kit Harrington (GAME OF THRONES). The movie also stars Kiefer Sutherland (24), Emily Browning (SUCKER PUNCH), Carrie Anne-Moss (THE MATRIX), Jared Harris, Paz Vega, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Jessica Lucas.
There are going to be an amazing assortment of practical stunts if the list of stunt performers are any indication. Clearly CG will be handily in use as well. An erupting volcano, especially one so famous in the annals of history will look amazing in native and rendered 3D. Should be a treat.

Check out a couple more cool shots of Milla Jovovich in RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION! That must be one hard top to get out of with all those buckles. But she is definitely packing heat dual wielding those suckers, is she not?
Here's the movie's storyline: The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, Alice (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by new found allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.
Check out the new poster for RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION showing some high flying bullet casings and an intense Milla Jovovich as Alice.
We revisit the T-Virus with yet another native 3D production, this time shot on 3ality Technica's rigs. Director Paul W.S. Anderson typically delivers some very interesting camera shots, especially in 3D. Love the aerial work that he does too.

As most of you know, I am a big fan of this franchise. And If you have been following along, then you know that I am also a proponent of having waves and waves of zombies in the way of our heroes. I'm happy to say that because of the trailer it seems that Paul WS. Anderson is doing it the right way! :-)
Have a look at some new artwork that Sony Screen Gems has released for us:
THE POSTER - Very cool mash up look at the destruction of cities around the world (London, New York, Moscow) with a fleet of heavily armed helocopters bearing down on us. Clearly global peril is a key element this time around.
Note the currents in the water form up to be the emblem of the Umbrella Corporation.
THE BANNER - Simply has Milla Jovovich doing her killing thing with the tagline: THINK GLOBAL. KILL LOCAL. Seems to be a clue to what we might anticipate seeing in the movie along the lines of: "To win this thing you have to have the bigger picture - but oh by the way, zombies at your 6."
Here's the movie's storyline: The wildly successful film franchise adaptation that has grossed nearly $700 million worldwide to the popular video game series, “Resident Evil,” returns in its highly anticipated fifth installment, “Re5ident Evil: Retribution” in state-of-the art 3D.

More when I get it! RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION opens September 14, 2012.
WOW. I was surprised to see the Sony commercial at the beginning but it was all worth it. I am VERY impressed with the glimpse we get to see of RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION.In fact I would go so far as to raise my expectation of this movie to at least my top 20 of 2012!
Seriously, it looks good. And it looks as though the RESIDENT EVIL franchise will continue to defy the odds and have ever-increasing box office with more and more sequels. I have been asking for some time now to see many, many more zombie like creatures rather than super-beings, and it looks like Anderson delivers this time! Check out the hordes outside their compound right at the very beginning of the trailer. Awesome!
Milla Jovovich returns with her husband Paul W.S. Anderson directing again - a proven tandem. Also returning are Michelle Rodriguez (We're big fans of hers!), Shawn Roberts, Sienna Guillory, Oded Fehr, Colin Salmon, and Boris Kodjoe some new cast members Kevin Durand, Johann Urb and Li Bingbing.

Are you with me? Even if you aren't a fan of the franchise, the action looks great! RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION spreads to theaters on September 14 in native 3D.
I saw THE THREE MUSKETEERS last night and it is what it advertised it is - a family adventure popcorn movie. It is simply ridiculous the number of websites that hate this movie and give very little sound reason. Anderson may have a sore spot in their minds, but c'mon. T3M is great entertainment.
Don't go to see a classic drama or a iron clad period piece because this isn't it.Go to enjoy a couple of hours of splendid imagery and creative exploration within old Europe.Because it really is a gorgeous movie. The costumes were simply staggering and the sets? Well, you can't get better than Versailles (fairly certain that was a major location - I have been there myself and it must be seen in person to be fully appreciated).
The 3D was well done and shot natively. Nothing outrageous to comment on, just good behind the screen depth. The way it should be. Loved it.
To be clear - I loved the movie. Not for the 3D (though it was great), but for the content and visuals. Easily worth admission.
Here's the first five minutes of the movie so you can get a taste of what's to come:
My good friend Steve over at Collider has a great interview with RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION director Paul W.S. Anderson about what we can expect from the movie.
Here's a breakdown of the conversation: - Says he starts to film the 5th installment in one week - What’s the secret of Resident Evil and why it’s so popular around the world - 2:20 – What kind of action can fans look forward to in the 5th installment. Says they’re bringing in the Las Plagas parasite from the games for Retribution. It will allow the undead to “run around, ride motorbikes, and shoot machine guns.” Also, they shooting a big action scene with a Rolls Royce Phantom. - 4:25 – What have the fans requested that have made it into the movie - 6:00 – What characters are coming back - 7:05 – How long was the shoot for the 4th film and how long is the 5th films shoot. (55 Days) - 7:35 – Where does the 5th film take place and where do they shoot - 8:00 – With the success of the movies, does he have creative freedom with the characters and world or does he have to answer to certain people - 9:50 – How is it for him when he goes to Japan and what’s the interaction with the fans as the franchise is very popular there. Mentions how it’s called Biohazard and not Resident Evil in Japan. - 12:15 – Where are they shooting the 5th movie in Tokyo
So interesting! You can tell Anderson is a pretty intelligent guy and has a fairly no-nonsense approach to his work.
Look for RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION September 14, 2012.
We are big fans of Michelle Rodriguez here (Trudy Chacon in AVATAR!!) so of course we are going to post on her newly uncovered role in RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION.
She will again be playing "Rain Ocampo" as she did in the original RESIDENT EVIL adaptation (2002) of the smash video game. Apparently Shawn Roberts will return as Albert Wesker as well.
Looking forward to seeing where Paul W.S. Anderson will be taking this one - one thing I am itching for is MORE ZOMBIES. I dislike the superpower beings and want to see Alice and Rain kicking massive hordes of zombie butt. But that's just me.
Well Milla Jovovich had better be careful - the director may fire her from the RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION production! Wait, errrr no. She's married to the guy. I guess she can get away with more than the average cast member!
So to the meat of it, here's what she has let slip so far:
- Leon Kennedy and Barry Burton will make their first appearances in the series along with Ada Wong, who was in the Resident Evil 2, 4, and The Darkside Chronicles video games. Shawn Roberts will also return to play the villainous Albert Wesker.
- Chris Redfield (Wentworth Miller), Claire Redfield (Ali Larter), and K-Mart (Spencer Locke) won’t return because they’ve been abducted by the Umbrella Corporation. Sienna Guillory will be back again as Jill Valentine however and you can expect some fireworks between her and Alice (Jovovich).
- Remember mind-controlling parasite “Las Plagas” in Resident Evil 4? It's bacccckkkk. She tweeted: "alright guys! gotta go! 1 let mini spoiler tho! we will hve the Las Plagas parasite!!! have an awesome day!"
- Jovovich says she is hopeful that a sixth Resident Evil keeps all the major characters together, alluding of course that all of the new characters will survive Retribution.
Jovovich also tweeted: "the red square sequence is THE MOST COMPLICATED CHASE SCENE PAUL (her husband / director) HAS EVER PLANNED FOR! ITS GONNA BE EPIC!"
"its gonna be SIIIIICK!! paul leaves the production meeting reeling from the logistical complications off how 2 shoot them!!"
"we’ll b the 1st movie 2 hve a chase scene in a rolls royce which we will get shot up, but still runs cause they’re awesome!"
Principal photography is slated for October 16th.
Oh and want to have a walk-on part in RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION? Check out thiscasting calland you might be just what they are looking for!
We can expect director Paul WS Anderson to use the Cameron-Pace Group's Fusion 3D camera's again. I'll check into that and see what comes up. Anderson is definitely going native 3D again however.
Hey guys - we have two new posters from THE THREE MUSKETEERS for you.
Click the image to expand. One is for France (can you tell which one?) and the other is North American. Obviously the story is very dear to the hearts of the French and is an important country for its box office.
I don't know about you but I am quite looking forward to seeing Orlando Bloom playing a darker role! And of course anything with Christoph Waltz is going to look great - he definitely classed up THE GREEN HORNET and INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS goes without saying.
Here's the storyline: The hot-headed young D'Artagnan along with three former legendary but now down on their luck Musketeers must unite and defeat a beautiful double agent and her villainous employer from seizing the French throne and engulfing Europe in war.

The heart and soul of the RESIDENT EVIL franchise apparently just signed on to the fifth installment in the series: RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION. Actor Milla Jovovich (Alice) and her husband director Paul W.S. Anderson are returning, the latter is writing the screenplay and directing.
It looked like Sienna Guillory would be returning to her role of "Jill Valentine" (she tweeted back in March: "RE:5 alert! Training begins! I aim to mostly put less in the big hole on the front of my face than comes out of the little one on my arse."), but now it seems that that role is being recast. No word as to why Guillory will not be returning.
Toronto and Tokyo will play host to the production that starts in October. Sony Screen Gems has set September 14, 2012 as the release date.
You can see another anticipated project that the power couple have made this October 21 - THE THREE MUSKETEERS. In 3D of course...
Right off the top I will tell you that we do not know for sure whether Constantin Film's POMPEII is in stereoscopic 3D or not, but I would certainly wager that it is given that Paul W.S Anderson has attached himself to direct it. Anderson of course brought us RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE as well as the upcoming THE THREE MUSKETEERS in 3D (same team of companies in fact).
Summit Entertainment has jumped on board for US distribution. Summit International will peddle the property at Cannes.
From THR:Set in late summer 79 A.D., Pompeii revolves around the slave of a shipping tycoon who dreams of the day he can buy his freedom and marry his master's daughter. What the slave doesn't know is that she's already been promised to a corrupt Roman senator, while he's been sold to another owner.Just when things can't get any worse, Mt. Vesuvius erupts with the power of 40 nuclear bombs. But the slave is trapped on a ship headed for Naples, separated from his love and best friend, a gladiator who is trapped in the city's coliseum. As fire and ash destroy the only world he's ever known, the slave is determined to get back and rescue them.
The Lee Batchler / Janet Scott Batchler scripted movie is said to start shooting in spring 2012.
I like this turn of events actually. THE THREE MUSKETEERS looks like solid entertainment and gloriously shot. If Anderson can capture the feeling of living back in 79 A.D. and throw in massive volcano / lava special effects, we could have great experience in the theater.
I am loving this! Two awesome trailers in the last two days! THE THREE MUSKETEERS looks amazing and just what I am looking for in a remake. Did I care whether I saw another swing at THE THREE MUSKETEERS say 12 months ago? Nope. I did not. But now, seeing a glimpse of the performances and the special effects in this teaser I am very impressed indeed.
Can this bring in the audience? I hope so. I hope that folks aren't completely drained of all interest for the story after countless remakes, because this time around it looks very entertaining. I can see why director Paul W.S. Anderson said that it would be a modern take on the story as the special effects are amazing. Wasn't sure what he meant back when he said it - but it makes sense now. A pure popcorn entertainment movie. It's what we go the the theater for! It's meant for the big screen.
Quick Storyline: The hot-headed young D'Artagnan along with three former legendary but now down on their luck Musketeers must unite and defeat a beautiful double agent and her villainous employer from seizing the French throne and engulfing Europe in war.
Director: Paul W.S. Anderson Starring: Logan Lerman, Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Milla Jovovich, Orlando Bloom, Christoph Waltz, James Corden Release: October 14, 2011
THE THREE MUSKETEERS was shot totally in native 3D. Should be a ton-o-fun. Can't wait!
You know me and zombie movies! I am pleased to let you know that RESIDENT EVIL 5 is going to take place (just as Milla Jovovich had foretold just after the launch of RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE).
Sony Screen Gems has set a release date of September 14, 2012.
No word on whether or not Paul W.S. Anderson will be directing or not, but I think it is safe to say he will be. And writing as well. Hopefully there are a TON more zombies in this iteration. Paul, are you reading this?
It is also safe to say that RE5 will be 3D as well, although this has not been announced yet. The additional 3D revenue and of course the native 3D cinematic experience that RE:A enjoyed are ample enough reasons.
We have already seen shots of Mads Mikkelsen and Logan Lerman in an unofficial capacity, so there is no great reveal here on Lerman's costume; however, we do see what Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson and Luke Evans, those playingthe actual three musketeers, will look like!
Gorgeous set locations obviously!
Here is the storyline: The hot-headed young D’Artagnan (Logan Lerman) joins forces with three rogue Musketeers (Matthew MacFadyen, Luke Evans and Ray Stevenson) in this reboot of Alexandre Dumas’ story. They must stop the evil Richlieu (Christoph Waltz) and face off with Buckingham (Orlando Bloom) and the treacherous Milady (Milla Jovovich). The action adventure is given a state of the art update in 3-D.
The more I see of this production the more amped I get. Should be fun.
Zombie fans rejoice! While I thought that the story in RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE sucked, it was made up for in spectacular 3D (Vince Pace and crew) and special effects. If director Paul W.S. Anderson is able to combine that 3D imagery with an awesome story - wow. You won't get a better lead for the movie in Milla Jovovich (Anderson's wife) as she has killing zombies down to a science.
And Milla herself has just gone on record saying: "This new Resident Evil is the first one to ever open at No. 1 worldwide. It’s the biggest movie in the franchise. So we’re definitely going to make another one. We’ve been talking to a lot of fans on Twitter and stuff, so it’s probably going to be one of the first movies where we really talk to fans to see what they want, and what characters they want to see. It's going to be a more interactive process."
So what do we need in RESIDENT EVIL 5? MORE ZOMBIES!! I mean millions of 'em. Throw Weta's MASSIVE software at it and crank it. How would you combat that many hungry walkers? Throw them in the middle of this massive abomination of humanity and let them try to get out of it. Think LEFT 4 DEAD, but with many more undead. Part of the reason AFTERLIFE sucked for me was the zombies got very little screen time and this is in fact a zombie movie. I could care less about the head of Umbrella, really. He is getting ridiculous at this point now anyway. I don't want a thinking enemy, I want an uncontrolled, massive zombie domination and Alice trying to get free of them. My two cents anyway, and they are asking for advice.
RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE holds the seventh best September opening weekend in history thanks to 3D screenings. Obviously, 3D will be a huge part of RE:5. Worldwide RE:A has raked in $70 million already.
**Small spoiler**Kinda ironic to see Wentworth Miller inside a cage in prison after his now famous role in TV's PRISON BREAK isn't it? I didn't think anything of it until later - he did seem right at home there :-)I hope Anderson listens to the public a great deal for RE:5. In other words... MORE ZOMBIES!
Talk about a wicked weekend for the long-in-the-tooth franchise RESIDENT EVIL! 3D has resurrected the business side of things (~$28 million for the weekend) as clearly RE:A's story is not the driving factor here. No, it was the spectacular live action 3D that was shot with some of the best 3D cameras and expertise in the world that have audiences stunned at what they are seeing. The Fusion 3D cameras are actually into a new generation now after what they accomplished with James Cameron's AVATAR.
And who was responsible for the stereoscopic 3D goodness? Vince Pace and his team. I reached out to Vince for a quick update (the second update since July where he exclusively told us that TRANSFORMERS 3 will be shot throughout in native 3D) as to what he has been up to lately and he continues at a breakneck speed churning out quality 3D project after 3D project.
Here is what Vince had to say this time around (Sep 10): "Shoot Justin Bieber concert, (shipping) out two feature packages. Shoot the first college game for ESPN. Shoot US Open for CBS. Waiting in airport for plane from New York to Columbus to shoot Ohio game. Back tomorrow night for Sunday mens finals. All done in the last ten days."
...and a brief followup TODAY: "Good news on Resident Evil. Working with Constantine for 3M. Nice to see repeat customers. Just had US Open cancel today’s match due to rain. Set for tomorrow…."
Wow. An amazing amount of work on his plate. James Cameron told me that their cameras are hardly ever on their shelves - always out on business.
So the exclusives out of this update:Justin Bieber's concert will be shot in NATIVE 3D with Fusion cameras! As will Paul W.S. Anderson's THE THREE MUSKETEERS!
Obviously the kids love Bieber's music and while the melodies are catchy I had reservations about this movie if it was going to be a conversion simply because I didn't know what company would be attached to do it. There are many companies out there that are capable of converting movies, but only a handful produce quality projects. Now I can relax. The 3D will be spectacular!
Same for THE THREE MUSKETEERS!I am ecstatic that it is going native 3D with the Fusion cameras. One could assume that Anderson (who also directed RE:A) was going to use them again, but it is great to have official confirmation.
Native 3D is glowing in the limelight this weekend as RE:A mutates its competitors. Companies like PACE and 3ality Digital are going to continue their 3D dominance until 3D conversion can consistently pull their weight across the board. Movies like CLASH OF THE TITANS and PIRANHA 3D are holding the "conversion brands" back today. Hopefully HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS will help fix that image!
One of the characters I have been most anxious to see in Paul W.S. Anderson's THE THREE MUSKETEERS is Mads Mikkelsen's character Rochefort, mainly because I think he is a great actor and perfectly cast for the movie. If you will remember, he played Le Chiffre in CASINO ROYALE.
Click photos to enlarge.
Before you ask:Sure, I could probably do without another MUSKETEERS remake - but to me we have not seen what the definitive effort is yet. So bring it on Anderson!
Look at the wardrobe for this movie! Great work. If these pictures are any indication for the rest of the movie, I can see many awards coming in their direction for costumes.
We also see Logan Lerman as D'Artagnan.
Look for the amazing cast of Ray Stevenson, Christoph Waltz, Orlando Bloom, Milla Jovovich, Luke Evans, Matthew Macfadyen, Juno Temple and James Corden to join Lerman and Mikkelsen in THE THREE MUSKETEERS on April 15, 2011. In 3D.
I love how Milla Jovovich keeps her Twitter followers up to date on her projects - first I was tracking RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE through her account and now it is THE THREE MUSKETEERS.
Here is a shot of her in a wardrobe test dress for the movie standing in front of a mirror. For more shots, check out her Twitter photo feed here. There are another half dozen shots or so.
As far as T3M goes, I am somewhat looking forward to it. There must be something to anticipate with the talent that is attached to it right? Let's hope so. Joining Jovovich on Paul W.S. Anderson's modern retelling of the classic is Logan Lerman, Christop Waltz, Orlando Bloom, Ray Stevenson and Mads Mikkelsen.
THE THREE MUSKETEERS ride into theaters everywhere April 15, 2011.
