Here's a new shot of Alice (Milla Jovovich) in Screen Gems upcoming RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION 3D. Also starring in this 5th iteration are Sienna Guillory, Michelle Rodriguez, Colin Salmon, Shawn Roberts, Johann Urb, Boris Kodjoe, Oded Fehr, Li Bingbing and Kevin Durand.
The movie was shot in native 3D using 3ality Technica's 3D camera rigs. I'm really looking forward to seeing the results!

I see an expanded budget here! Looking good too. After the last installment in the franchise I called for more "zombies" and less super-powered creatures and it appears that my wishes are being met! I see hordes of zombies in the new full trailer for RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION and plenty of action, complete with a revisit to Alice's family memories. But were her memories true or implanted?
And of course, Michelle Rodriguez is so welcome back! She needs to stay in future movies please. :-)

As this is breaking news there are not as many details as we would like, but hopefully there are no serious injuries. While shooting RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION in Toronto's Cinespace facility at 777 Kipling Avenue, a platform collapsed causing injury to at least 16 actors, and at least 10 of those actors were taken to hospital. Two of them where taken on backboards (2nd photo).
Apparently the actors were moving from one platform to another when the accident took place as a wheeled platform shifted causing the actors to fall about 5 feet (TMZ is reporting 20 feet). The injuries appear to be limited to bruises and broken bones (hopefully no spinal injuries).
In an odd circumstance, when emergency personnel arrived on the scene the actors were dressed and made up as zombies which caused some initial confusion to determine who had the injuries and who did not.
I have not heard if principal actors were hurt, like Milla Jovovich or Michelle Rodriguez but if they are involved I'm sure word will be out soon.More info will be coming if warranted. Sources: CBC | CTV | TMZ | The Wrap
We are big fans of Michelle Rodriguez here (Trudy Chacon in AVATAR!!) so of course we are going to post on her newly uncovered role in RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION.
She will again be playing "Rain Ocampo" as she did in the original RESIDENT EVIL adaptation (2002) of the smash video game. Apparently Shawn Roberts will return as Albert Wesker as well.
Looking forward to seeing where Paul W.S. Anderson will be taking this one - one thing I am itching for is MORE ZOMBIES. I dislike the superpower beings and want to see Alice and Rain kicking massive hordes of zombie butt. But that's just me.
**UPDATE: Oct 28 - Just got word from a source that her call sign is "Maya", which is partially visible above her head. The pin is for Sec Ops, the private security arm of the RDA. And it is a tiger on the nose art! Awesome update! :-)
Jim here. Fox just sent me this exclusive shot of Michelle Rodriguez standing beside her aircraft and looking very intense! Perhaps thinking about what perils she will be encountering while piloting through hostile airspace on Pandora! :-)
Some sort of sabre toothed cat on the aircraft - wonder what her call sign will be?
I have tried to get an interview with Michelle but to no avail. I have the right contacts, but she has been hard too land so far. So I want you guys to comment on why she SHOULD give us an interview! Deal?
The attention to detail is amazing! Check out the second zoom in shot I added of her shoulder pin - looks to be made up of a few crosses with one centered in the middle. Note that it more or less matches the cross on her sewn on chest badge. Definitely flying insignia.
Can't make out too much in the cockpit itself. Serious seat and restraints! I would say that is a mission briefing handheld she is placing in the window too. Finally seeing these aerial battles after hearing so much about them will be spectacular! Here's hoping she makes it right through to the end - for that massive fight. Think she will make it?
Don't forget to comment on why she needs to give us an interview! Michelle is a kick @ss character in so many movies - she needs to fill us in on AVATAR! :-) And thank you Fox for the image! Oh and if you use this photo - please link back as I do!

Jim here. Recently Latina (via /Film) had an chance to catch Michelle Rodriguez at the FAST AND THE FURIOUS 4 photo call in France and of course she failed to rein in her enthusiasm for her roles this year - including AVATAR. That's why we would jump at the chance for an interview with her.
MINI-SPOILER ALERT: Here is what she had to say about her fighter pilot character on AVATAR:(highlight the text below to read the contents) “Anytime you’ve got a wild, independent, free-spirited woman, she has to die at the end of the movie, unless it’s a movie that’s so sci-fi that it can’t be real, like TOMB RAIDER. Me? I die in every film that I’m in this year. They’re just gonna have to keep on killing me; I’ll keep coming back, until they realize what’s hot and make flicks for bitches like me.”
She was deadpan when she was saying this!

Jim here. You have to love how frank Michelle Rodriguez can be sometimes. Well, all the time. So it was with little surprise that I read an interview with her over on SciFiCool where she really gushes over working with James Cameron. Can't say I blame her, but she certainly does so with her own particular idiom.
Says Michelle:"So, you’re working with a golf ball or you’re working with an “X” on a green wall and you’re just hoping that you’ve really hit your mark interacting with this. You’re just kind of trying to remember as much of your make-believe time at the age of 5 as you possibly could to get you through it. But, with this technology that he’s got, you just go there and you see what you’re interacting with right there because it’s a mixture of live 3D footage, the props on the set, and the virtual world that he spent God knows how long creating. It’s f**king amazing. It’s hardcore. I can’t even imagine anything bigger."
Oh yeah, she also says:"You know, I used to poop in my pants too, and I learned how to use the bathroom eventually."...to see the context of THAT statement, be sure to read the whole thing.
According to SFC, Michelle is playing a pilot in AVATAR. Looks like Michelle's ship has got three green to land future mega roles after landing ANY part in this movie. Same goes for all the actors. Looking forward to hearing from them during their promo reels.
Michele Rodriguez recently (at the Dallas AFi International Film Festival) spoke about her upcoming 3D movie "Avatar".
While nothing new was said, it was nice to hear her enthusiasm for "Avatar" and 3D movies:
"I think people are really going to welcome this experience with open arms," she said. "And I have to call it an 'experience' because it's not like just going to watch a movie. You're actually going to experience it."
While I think Michele reads MarketSaw, now I am a little more sure. :-) The whole "experience" thingy sure rings a bell...
My friends over at ComingSoon have a nice little impromptu interview with Michelle Rodriguez regarding "Avatar". They caught up with her at an art gallery:
CS: How is "Avatar" going? Rodriguez: We finished shooting and now they're going to go into post for about a year.
CS: Have you seen any of the footage? Rodriguez: It's spectacular.
CS: Our audience is really excited about it, so anything you can tell me would be great. Rodriguez: I've seen raw stuff that hasn't even been touched up. It's not even in its second phase of all of the computer post-production that they've got to do, and it looks phenomenal.
CS: How in awe were you of James Cameron? Rodriguez: Let's just put it this way, if my bills weren't so expensive on a monthly basis, I would beg him to become his assistant. I would literally beg him.
CS: How incredible was your experience on the film and with Cameron? Rodriguez: I think he's an amazing guy. I look forward to watching and being a part of anything in his future.
CS: What was the process of shooting on the set like? Rodriguez: Just being surrounded by geniuses. In between cuts we'd just be talking about science. He's an encyclopedia that guy and I love him for it. I just get fed information which is great.
CS: How do you think fans are going to react when they see "Avatar"? Rodriguez: They're going to react the same way they did when people saw their first colored film. I'm so proud to be a part of it.

Yes, according to her official fan site, Michelle Rodriguez has satisified her jail time requirement and is a free citizen. That wasn't all that long in the joint was it?18 days? Good to have her out and available for "Avatar" call backs for Cameron! Stay on the high road now Michelle!
Unfortunately for Michelle Rodriguez and her family, she must start her 6 month jail term today - Christmas Eve. The impact on the Avatar shooting schedule is still relatively unknown except for the obvious delays that were encountered at the beginning of the project for several weeks. I am not sure if time off for good behavior is a possibility but I would bet that it is.
James Cameron has already shuffled his shooting schedule around this "hard stop" of one of his stars - let's hope the impact to the movie is minimal as well as to her family. Call backs would be a possibility now as well with the release date pushed back to December 2009. Hmmm, another contributing factor to the launch delay?
Exclusive: Parts of the James Cameron 3D epic Avatar may be lagging behind, some more than others. As confirmed in this previous MarketSaw exclusive post, Michelle Rodriguez's segments are only one day behind thus far and that my insider's segments are delayed until mid-November.
Now comes a report from my Avatar production insider that there was no activity this past Saturday at all on the set in Wellington, New Zealand. Weekend production is just not happening. "Looks like they are taking the weekends off, no obvious signs of filming last Saturday".
This seems strange to me. If you have that kind of investment ($200 million) tied up in production and labor, real deadlines to meet (Rodriguez has a very hard stop on Christmas Eve for instance) and looming strikes (writers just walked), I would kinda want to get going and kick it up to 16 hours x 7 days a week.Why are we seeing a slowdown? Doesn't make sense to me at all really.
What's missing here? Something. Keep an eye here on MarketSaw and I will update you the second I know.
SAME DAY UPDATE: Michelle Rodriguez has been spotted at the Wellington airport on Nov. 4th by Flickr' Elaine. Rodriguez has also been at the Pukekohe races (V8race) which is up near Auckland. So that's a fair amount of away time from the set if you ask me. You just don't have time to sightsee and travel if you are knee-deep in production. I understand that the official word from Michelle's camp is that she is working on Avatar - I'm am just trying to get to the bottom of whether or not they are on schedule or not. Again, my guess is NOT. More when I get it!
UPDATED: Oct 25th 2007One of my inside sources close to the Avatar production has just informed me that production segments have been delayed until mid-November. It is uncertain as to why this is occuring - perhaps James Cameron needs to ensure his home and possessions are out of harm's way (Malibu fires)?
This delay throws another wrench into the gears: Michelle Rodriguez. She has to report to jail on Christmas Eve and I am uncertain if this will affect her and her role on Avatar. I would say yes it does affect things. Delays this close to possible strike actions in the new year (contracts expire June 30th) is not a good thing either. UPDATE: I have received word from Leigh representing Michelle Rodriguez and her official website: "Avatar has not been delayed till mid-November. They had a 1-day delay. But all is well and they're back to filming. There is no issue on the Michelle front. Everything is just fine.
L." So it appears that Michelle's segments are indeed continuing, practically on schedule. However, as I originally posted there ARE segments of the movie which ARE delayed until mid-November based on my insider source who is attached to those said segments. Appears that the production has fragmented with parts of it getting priority and others not so much. Sounds like a reasonable approach. I will keep you posted on further developments as always.
Let's hope what needs to get accomplished does. Once it is in Weta's hands for CGI, there is not too much need for writers and actors (save for call backs).
I don't normally post on anything to do with casting, or the antics of movie casts on or off the set.
But quite frankly I have had it with actors who blatantly disregard the law. I am speaking of Michelle Rodriguez. A talented actor with screen presence - but not too much presence of mind apparently.
For those who don't know, she was caught for DUI and punished with a slap on the wrist - community service. Rather than do it though, she forged her court documents to show that she did her service when in fact she did not. When she admitted as much in court, they were not impressed. She now has 180 days in the slammer and a further 30 days of road clean-up duty.
Is this thing on? Hello? I was really looking forward to seeing the "Avatar" cast as originally laid out by Cameron, but c'mon. I would not be surprised if she is yanked very soon. There is a pending strike coming up as well and I am sure Cameron wants to get all the shooting and most pickups completed before and if that happens to focus on the effects.
If she had simply done her service and owed up to making a mistake which we are all capable of, then full steam ahead baby. I am not sure if there is a possibility of time off for good behavior - but heck, who can count on even that?

Steven Lang also joins as marine colonel who is on Pandora leading his fellow soldiers. Great casting obviously. Sigourney Weaver and Rodriguez fit perfectly into the sci-fi mold...
