YES! Ryan Reynolds Lies Down For First Look At DEADPOOL

As can be expected, Ryan Reynolds absolutely NAILS the first image from DEADPOOL revealing his character's costume (Reynolds tweeted it today). It's very similar if not exact to the costume used in his test footage short.

This is the one comic book hero movie I've been waiting for. Fans have been waiting a long time and have even been insulted somewhat (Deadpool was unfortunately mistreated in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE) but I think Fox is now firing on all cylinders. The image looks PERFECT.

Here's the movie's storyline:
Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

DEADPOOL ignites the fires on February 12, 2016. More news when we get it! And it goes without saying - This had better be a 3D release!

Jason Momoa's AQUAMAN Breaks Surface!

There is only one true King. Unite the seven.

I think this is perfect casting and really amplifies my expectations for BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. Jason Momoa just fits this role. Certainly the character needed presence as with any comic book superhero it can be a stretch to attain suspension of disbelief, but especially for the more marginal heroes and their abilities. Momoa definitely brings presence and the image shows how director Zach Snyder and DC are tackling his costume and weapon of choice.

Brilliant use of tattoos to mimic the traditional Aquaman costume! The tats also bring to mind cultural tattoos from the pacific islands - part of Momoa's heritage (his father is of native Hawaiian descent).

Momoa joins a stellar cast in BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE namely Henry Cavill (Superman), Ben Affleck (Batman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luther), Jeremy Irons (Alfred), Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne.

Aquaman's exposure has been carefully planned and he is expected to have presence in JUSTICE LEAGUE PART ONE (slated for November 17, 2017), AQUAMAN (July 27, 2018) and JUSTICE LEAGUE PART TWO (June 14, 2019).

BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE is slated for a March 25, 2016 release.

First Look: Teaser Trailer For FANTASIC FOUR Hits

I think Fox's FANTASTIC FOUR may have finally got it right. They certainly have the right director in Josh Trank (CHRONICLE) and cast with Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Toby Kebbell. Obviously it's hard to get an understanding from just a teaser, but my impression is that the story is having a lot of attention paid to it this time around.

Matthew Vaughn (KICK ASS, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE) is a Producer on this movie as well giving FANTASTIC FOUR a fine pedigree indeed. I think we are finally in for a treat with this franchise.

Here's the storyline:
FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

FANTASTIC FOUR opens in theaters August 7, 2015. 

First Look: TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D's Leatherface...

The first image from John Luessenhop's TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D has dropped and it suitably presents the mood for the continuation of the franchise: Dark and impending. The image shows Leatherface (played by Dan Yeager) clutching his infamous chainsaw.

Here's the movie's storyline:
Twenty years ago, the town of Newt, Texas exacted vengeance on the Sawyer family for their role in assisting and concealing murders committed by the chainsaw-wielding maniac Jeb Sawyer, aka “Leatherface.” The entire family was presume killed when Burt Hartman led the townspeople to burn down their farm house, but the Sawyer infant survived and was secretly taken away by two of the vigilante townies, Gavin and Arlene, and raised their daughter Heather. It’s not until she’s in her twenties that Heather learns that she’s adopted.

TC3D stars Alexandra Daddario, Tania Raymonde, Scott Eastwood, Sue Rock, Bill Moseley, Gunnar Hansen, Trey Songz, Keram Malicki-Sanchez, Thom Barry, Shaun Sipos, Paul Rae and Richard Riehle.

Spoilers! Are These Action Figure Images The Goblin King From THE HOBBIT?

TORn has gotten their hands on what could be our first look at what the Goblin King in THE HOBBIT will look like AND a character description. While I can't hide the images from you (which also include an underling), I have made them super small - only click to enlarge the photo if you want to be spoiled! Also, you do have the option of not reading the description below too.

Barry Humphries is the actor behind the character.

Apparently the information and photos comes from a French site that also translated the German description to English. That description is as follows: 

The Goblin King is a huge, grotesquely bloated monster that in the years of his tyrannical rule over the miserable inhabitants of the Goblin town grew fat and flabby. The Goblin town is a collection of skew-whiff ramshackle huts deep in the caves of the Misty Mountains. He commands a bunch of foul, polluted, with scars and ulcers studded goblins.

Basically, they are bandits, they live by what they can pick up from passengers on the passes through the mountains. The Goblin King and his followers manage to capture Bilbo and the dwarves. The Goblin King is more wily and smarter than it seems. He takes pleasure in torturing his prisoners — he almost succeeds to finish off Thorin Oakenshield and his companions.

All of this seems to hold water as the Goblin King resembles the 'skeleton' of the practical animatronics creature that was being constructed during the first Production (last image).

Interesting or what!? I love this stuff. He looks positively evil does he not?

MUST SEE: First Look At Ang Lee's LIFE OF PI

Check out our first look at Ang Lee's LIFE OF PI!! Love this image as this really is the meat and potatoes of the story: A small boat, a boy and a tiger. :-)

Here's the storyline for the movie:
Pi Patel is an unusual boy. The son of a zookeeper, he has an encyclopedic knowledge of animal behavior, a fervent love of stories, and practices not only his native Hinduism, but also Christianity and Islam. When Pi is sixteen, his family emigrates from India to North America aboard a Japanese cargo ship, along with their zoo animals bound for new homes. The ship sinks. Pi finds himself alone in a lifeboat, his only companions a hyena, an orangutan, a wounded zebra, and Richard Parker, a 450-pound Bengal tiger. Soon the tiger has dispatched all but Pi, whose fear, knowledge, and cunning allow him to coexist with Richard Parker for 227 days lost at sea. When they finally reach the coast of Mexico, Richard Parker flees to the jungle, never to be seen again. The Japanese authorities who interrogate Pi refuse to believe his story and press him to tell them “the truth.” After hours of coercion, Pi tells a second story, a story much less fantastical, much more conventional-but is it more true? 


The original book was written by Yann Martel in 2001 and many directors took a close look at it as a project for them, finally winding up in the capable hands of Ang Lee.

Suraj Sharma won the coveted role of Pi from a field of 3000+ hopeful young actors. He joins a cast including Tobey Maguire, Gerard Depardieu, Irrfan Khan and Adil Hussain.

LIFE OF PI is slated for release on December 14. Really looking forward to this one - the effects will definitely be Oscar fodder at the very least!!

First Look At Dreamworks Animation's THE CROODS!

If you have been reading MarketSaw for years than you know I've been following this development project for a long time. I love who wrote the original drafts (back then it was called CROOD AWAKENING) - none other than the legendary John Cleese.

Since then, Kirk De Micco and Chris Saunders (HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON, MULAN, THE LION KING, ALADDIN, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST) have taken up the writing reins (and also directing) so hopefully it will be the classic comedy I've been seeking for so long!

I want a drop dead funny comedy - kind of like a MONTY PYTHON meets modern animation. If DWA can effectively mix the original DNA from Cleese with the expertise of Saunders and De Micco then we should be in for a treat.

Here's the official storyline from DWA:
The Croods is a 3D comedy adventure from DreamWorks Animation that takes us back to the beginning – to a previously undiscovered era known as the Croodacious – a time when Mother Nature was still experimenting and the flora and fauna we know today hasn’t evolved yet. At the heart of this comedically chaotic world is the Crood family, led by Grug (Academy Award® winner Nicolas Cage), an over-protective father who, like all dads, is doing all he can to hold his family together as the world around them changes at a dramatic pace.

Together with his wife (Catherine Keener), kids (Emma Stone and Clark Duke) and ornery mother-in-law (Cloris Leachman) in tow, Grug guides his family through this spectacular environment, full of amazing creatures, to find a new cave to call home. Along the way, they encounter Guy (Ryan Reynolds), an imaginative and resourceful newcomer who takes risks and wholeheartedly embraces the promise of tomorrow. Audiences will relate to the hilarious family antics as Guy helps the Croods navigate their way into the bright future.

Watch out for this one folks. I think it could be the real deal and an instant classic!

First Look: Sam Worthington In WRATH OF THE TITANS

Let's all assume for a moment that Warner Bros. has learned their lesson about nasty 3D conversions and will take the time and money to do it right (I truly believe that they have).

What we have is CLASH OF THE TITANS (~$500m) more or less begging for a sequel. That and the fact that Warner snagged Jonathan Liebesman (BATTLE: LOS ANGELES) to direct, which is great for audiences in my mind.

Remember that Sam Worthington (photo left) wants a better effort this time:
"I just think we can improve on it… I think the first one, we kind of let down some people. And yeah, I totally agree. The only point of doing a sequel is either the audience demands it or you believe you can better the first one. What we’re setting out to do with this one — the writers and the director and myself — is improve. I think I can act f***ing better, to be honest … Just take all the notes from people that I have been reading about on the ‘net and give them a movie they f***ing want. This one I want to kind of try to satisfy a lot more people."

...and it looks like his hair is into the role! :-) Just kidding Sam...

Liebesman was just as adamant:
"I think what you have to remember is the first film was neither shot nor edited with 3D in mind. It was shot as a 2D movie and edited as a 2D film, and they decided to convert it with six or seven weeks to go until release, which is insane; the technology was not there. That's why we're conceiving it from the start, from the ground up, in 3D, editing in 3D for 3D." "The big question was to shoot native 3D or not. I tested a lot of digital cameras, and quite frankly, because I'm going for a sort of much grittier, grounded look in Clash 2, the look I want is almost Gladiator with fantastical creatures in it, I found that the characteristics of film were more what I was going for."

The movie centers on the story that Hades (Ralph Fiennes) kidnaps Zeus (Liam Neeson) and takes him to hell.

See that trident Worthington is holding? It's one of several weapons that Perseus has to collect "in order to create one uber-weapon." Says Liebesman: "But that's probably a massive spoiler. I haven't practiced being spoiler proof yet."

Liebesman started shooting in March of this year for a March 30, 2012 release.

FIRST LOOK: Photos Of Lily Collins, Armie Hammer And Julia Roberts In Tarsem Singh's SNOW WHITE

Here's our first look at Relativity Media's SNOW WHITE (You can expect a different title when it comes out) being helmed by director Tarsem Singh (IMMORTALS, THE CELL).

This version of Snow White (the other in production right now is with Universal Pictures starring Kristen Stewart) sports a cast of Lily Collins in the titular role, Armie Hammer as the prince and Julia Roberts as the evil queen.

Says Singh of his star evil queen: “She outsources her evil, just like most people. I wanted a person who is just schizophrenic. She’s a person who would just do all the evil she needs to do to stay in power.”

Here's some of the storyline (unofficial):
This family oriented film has Snow White being exiled into the wilderness after the queen’s majordomo (Nathan Lane) can’t bring himself to kill her. Seven dwarfs take pity on a fellow outcast. The dwarfs are bandits that live in the woods outside the kingdom and wear stilts when they attack passing caravans, which has the citizens fearing giants – not little guys. They begin offering their skills to help her and her plight verses the queen. Like many evil-doers, this evil queen maintains a phony cheerful demeanor in public, and prefers not to get her own hands dirty with such menial issues as murdering her step-daughter, which is the only way to maintain her place on the throne. Luckily for Snow White, that means she can remain undetected for a while and attempt to unseat the woman who is destroying her late father’s kingdom. She has some helpers, of course. Seven of them.

First Look: A VERY HAROLD AND KUMAR 3D CHRISTMAS Photo

After HAROLD AND KUMAR ESCAPE FROM GUANTANAMO BAY (HKEFGB) had a half decent return (it made $43.5m) on investment it seems the franchise lives on. In 3D this time! We'll see how it goes.

I did love the marketing for HKEFGB with the create a voice answering message from President Bush. It was HILARIOUS.

Kal Penn and John Cho do a wonderful job in the lead roles for these films.

Here's the storyline for A VERY HAROLD AND KUMAR 3D CHRISTMAS:
After years of growing apart, Harold Lee and Kumar Patel have replaced each other with new friends and are preparing for their respective Yuletide celebrations. But when a mysterious package mistakenly arrives at Kumar’s door on Christmas Eve, his attempt to redirect it to Harold’s house ends with the “high grade” contents — and Harold’s father-in-law’s prize Christmas tree — going up in smoke. With his in-laws out of the house for the day, Harold decides to cover his tracks, rather than come clean. Reluctantly embarking on another ill-advised journey with Kumar through New York City, their search for the perfect replacement tree takes them through party heaven — and almost blows Christmas Eve sky high.

Sounds like typical Harold and Kumar fare - so in other words a pretty good time. AND Danny Trejo will be in it. I'll be checking it out on November 4.

FIRST LOOK: New BATTLESHIP Trailer!

We all knew it was coming - A Peter Berg directed take on the game BATTLESHIP. But will it be any good?

From the first look at the trailer it seems somewhat compelling in that Liam Neeson seems to be on his game. The effects look half decent and judging by the content seen it seems the 3D should be good. I won't give away everything in the trailer until you see it, but it could deliver a great popcorn movie.

Here's the storyline:
Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Based on Hasbro’s classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper’s fiancée; Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd as Hopper’s older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper’s crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone’s superior (and Sam’s father), Admiral Shane.

Check out the very high altitude shots of the vessels on the ocean - JUST like in the game. I think I can guess that somehow these alien ships can camo themselves VERY well which would require the navy to guess locations and shell those spots liberally - hoping to score a hit. That is just a guess though - but it seems reasonable given what I just saw.

Here's hoping for a great ride! BATTLESHIP weighs anchor on May 18, 2012.

Watch: First Look At Pixar's Short LA LUNA!

Nice! Having watched this thing a dozen times now (its not long) I can say that I am quite taken by it.

Interestingly enough, I actually got some vibes from Sony's CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS with the father / son dynamic and personality quirks. That's a kudo to Sony Pictures Animation's efforts of late.

Pixar really nails the human condition don't they? Why can't more studios do this with live action? THIS is what I want to see made in native 3D with real actors. My vote says, make it happen!

First Look: David R. Ellis' SHARK NIGHT 3D

So we obviously need to have a shark attack movie in 3D right? I would love to see Jaws converted of course, but in the meanwhile here is SHARK NIGHT 3D.

This official image has Sara Paxton about to become a snack for a shark. The director, David R. Ellis (FINAL DESTINATION 2, 4 and SNAKES ON A PLANE) is clearly shooting for a 3D thrill ride movie with a title like SHARK NIGHT 3D (SN3D).

As a general rule, underwater images look outstanding in stereoscopic 3D and if it is done right, SN3D should have no trouble eliciting plenty of shocking scenes.

SHARK NIGHT 3D circles theaters September 2 and stars Katharine McPhee, Joel David Moore, Dustin Milligan, Chris Carmack, Alyssa Diaz, Donal Logue, Sinqua Walls and Chris Zylka.

First Look: Will Smith & Josh Brolin Set Pics From MEN IN BLACK III

Here's a quick first look at Will Smith and Josh Brolin in Sony's MEN IN BLACK III.

Not much to comment on except a slicked back hair style for Brolin which actually looks better than his normal quaff if you ask me. Definitely fitting into a successful younger Tommy Lee Jones mold isn't he?

Not many details about the plot have been confirmed though the movie will have a time travel storyline with Agent J and Agent K going back to the 1960s to see a young Agent K. Boris (the bad guy), also travels back in time to try and kill Agent K to set off a chain of events which will result in the end of the world.

First Look: James Franco In RISE OF THE APES

Franco plays Will Rodman, a scientist that discovers intelligent apes. Andy Serkis also stars and will be motion capturing Caesar who is the apes leader.

UPDATE: Full First Look At TINTIN And More!

Empire finally released the whole first look image from THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN and it looks striking! Exactly what I had anticipated from the project in fact. Tintin (Jamie Bell) looks like a photo-real representation of what Herge himself drew!

Further we have another two shots from the movie to have a look at the first is a look at Captain Haddock (Andy Serkis) and the second is Tintin, Haddock and Snowy looking stranded on a capsized lifeboat. At least it looks like a lifeboat. Could be a DOREY though. ;-)

Says Peter Jackson: “With live action you’re going to have actors pretending to be Captain Haddock and Tintin. You’d be casting people to look like them. It’s not really going to feel like the Tintin Hergé drew. It’s going to be somewhat different. With CGI we can bring Hergé’s world to life, keep the stylised caricatured faces, keep everything looking like Hergé’s artwork, but make it photo-real.”

Jackson continues on talking about what we might see in his directorial TINTIN: “One of my favourites is The Seven Crystal Balls, so that’s the one I’ve always been thinking of,” he says. “I also really like the Eastern European ones, the Balkan ones like King Ottokar’s Sceptre and The Calculus Affair. I think it’s a terrific setting for a thriller, the weird Balkan politics and the mysterious secret service agents. I think the Moon ones are terrific, but they’d be good for the third or fourth Tintin film, if we get that far. We want to keep his feet on the ground just a little bit longer.”

Says Steven Spielberg: “The first part of the film, which is the most mysterious part, certainly owes much to not only film noir but the whole German Brechtian theatre — some of our night scenes and our action scenes are very contrasty. But at the same time the movie is a hell of an adventure.”

With the creative genius behind this feature, the characters of Herge and the second-to-none delivery of Weta on effects (AVATAR anyone?) we are sure to see a spectacular movie and sequels! The worldwide response will be staggering too. Can't wait.

Hey guys - check out an awesome shot of Ryan Reynolds as GREEN LANTERN on the cover of Entertainment Weekly. This movie is going to kick some serious butt. Joining Ryan Reynolds will be Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Tim Robbins, Mark Strong, Taika Waititi, Temuera Morrison, Angela Bassett, Jay O. Sanders, and Jon Tenney.

The premise is all about Reynolds playing a rookie for the Green Lantern Corps. Every Green Lantern wears a ring that grants them superpowers. When a new enemy threatens to destroy the balance of power in the universe, fate lies in the hands of their newest recruit who just happens to be the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

Be sure to write off the evening of June 17, 2011 as GREEN LANTERN burns into 3D theaters everywhere!

First Look: Disney's TANGLED!

The good folks at Disney are giving TV audiences a first look at their upcoming 3D animation TANGLED on Sunday night hosted by, you guessed it, the Disney Channel.

Disney already has 15 seconds of the movie exposed during a commercial to market the event which has made its way to this very post!

Is This The First Look At Ridley Scott's 3D Epic THE FOREVER WAR??

Jim here. This is potentially very exciting or very lame. Either way it is a nice piece of artwork I guess.

Quiet Earth claims they have some artwork from Steve Simmons (Artist on TIMELESS) that belongs to Ridley Scott's THE FOREVER WAR.

If you are unacquainted, here is the synopsis of Scott's planned stereoscopic 3D Sci-Fi epic: An elite task force returns home after a brief interstellar military operation, but discovers that 20 years have past and the planet they once knew is completely different. Based on Joe Haldeman's 1974 novel "The Forever War".

I would take a substantial grain of salt with this one for now as much as I would like to believe it. I will keep you updated!

First Look: SHREK FOREVER AFTER

Jim here. Got you a first look at SHREK FOREVER AFTER courtesy of USA Today. Not only that, but we also get a storyline too, and yes - it does seem like this will be the final chapter in the SHREK franchise (believe it, or not).

Rumpelstiltskin is pictured on the right.

From USA Today: "All that was loved about Shrek in the first film is brought to the final film," promises Bill Damaschke, head of creative production at DreamWorks. Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz are back as the voices of Shrek, sidekick Donkey and ogress wife Fiona.

The premise is the Brothers Grimm meet It's a Wonderful Life: After rescuing a princess, getting hitched and fathering triplets, Shrek is feeling over-domesticated. "He has lost his roar," says director Mike Mitchell (Sky High, Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigolo). "It used to send villagers running away in terror. Now they run to him and ask him to sign their pitchforks and torches." To regain his ogre mojo, he strikes a deal with Rumpelstiltskin, the wee troublemaker who popped up briefly in Shrek 2 and 3.

Of course, the pact goes awry and Shrek must confront what life would be like in Far Far Away if he had never existed. That translates into Donkey being forced into cart-pulling duty, fat and lazy Puss in Boots trading his sword for a pink bow and the underhanded Rumpelstiltskin ruling the kingdom.No Shrek outing would be complete without new characters, and there are a bunch. Comedians Kathy Griffinand Kristin Schaal (Flight of the Conchords) are witches who hunt ogres. On the side of good is an underground resistance group led by Jon Hamm of Mad Men. "He is the best-looking ogre you've ever seen," Mitchell says.

Oh and Paul McCartney is NOT the voice of Rumpelstiltskin as some other sites (IMDB) have led us to believe. Walt Dohrn lends his voice for the role (the film's head of story).

...You know, I can't see this one being the last if it makes boat loads of money (and you know it will). Something tells me that you will see more SHREK in 3D after this :-)
